The Max Level Hero Has Returned!-Chapter 966
Chapter 966
The moment Davey received news from the spirits, he quickly left the Dragon’s Nest and unleashed his qi.
“Fire Chicken.”
- Kiii!!!
Massive balls of flame began to gather in the sky, taking the shape of a colossal firebird. It swooped down at tremendous speed to land right in front of him. Ignoring the stunned expressions of those watching, Davey climbed onto the fiery creature.
“Your Highness!” Rudel shouted as he reached out hastily.
“Megalodria is still here, so you can rely on him for support. I have somewhere I need to be for a moment.”
Hearing his calm but firm voice, Rudel flinched and stepped back.
“Daddy’s mad...”
Evangeline, who stood behind him, clung tightly to Rinne as she spoke. The golem pulled a candy from her pocket and popped it into her mouth, nodding sagely as if agreeing.
“B-But! If you leave now, what are we supposed to do? Elder Kais—”
Davey cut him off and muttered from atop the firebird, “Shandra Minea.”
- Grrrkkk!!!
The ground twisted violently, and a massive groundburst dragon emerged.
[What is it this time?]
“Help Megalodria track down the one who ran away. You can chew up their arms and legs all you want, just make sure they’re still breathing when you bring them back.”
[Understood.]
The groundburst dragon radiated an overwhelming presence that sent shivers through the nearby dragons. Its enormous body shimmered briefly before dozens of illusory forms split off and scattered in all directions.
While Megalodria might have the sharpest mind among them, even a less intelligent dragon was capable of efficiently hunting down an enemy.
“Let’s go.”
With that, Davey shot into the air, flying swiftly toward the direction the spirits had told him.
* * *
Riding Fire Chicken as it blazed through the sky, Davey quickly arrived at the forest the spirit had mentioned. What greeted him there was a scene that left him momentarily dumbfounded.
Thwack! Thwack!
A hulking, muscle-bound rabbit with pure white fur was mercilessly beating two lizards black and blue.
“Ugh... Waaah!”
Myuu, seeing Davey, ran over and clung to him tightly. He immediately checked to confirm she wasn’t injured. Thankfully, it seemed there were no visible wounds.
“Headmaster...”
“Are there any injured?”
Duke, the Student Council President, quickly answered while pointing. “It seems that Krukta is the only one who got hurt. The rest of us are fine!”
Following his gesture, Davey noticed an orc lying unconscious nearby. He approached the orc and examined his condition. Fortunately, it seemed Krukta had only fainted due to a sudden shock to his system, with no serious residual injuries.
“What happened here?” Davey asked.
Maribel, the Vice President of the Student Council, tried to explain but froze mid-motion. Trembling, she crouched down, covered her head with her hands, and muttered fearfully.
“Rabbit... I hate rabbits... I hate them...”
“...”
Davey remembered the traumatic encounter she had during the last exam, when she had been captured by Killer Rabbit. Watching her tremble, he figured he wouldn’t be able to get an answer from her.
“Honestly, even I’m a little shaken,” he muttered as he watched Killer Rabbit.
A muscular rabbit beating up dragons while flexing its muscles was nothing short of madness.
“Although, I’ve seen plenty of muscle-obsessed knights go crazy over gains,” Davey remarked, recalling the extreme diets and workout regimes those knights would go on.
But seeing the rabbit in front of him, he quickly realized that their madness was relatively unqualified to be considered true madness.
The rabbit in front of him...
“Kyuu?”
Now that embodied true insanity.

“What’s surprising is how strong it is. Has it been sharpening its skills in its downtime?”
Even for an ancient beast, splitting itself repeatedly would naturally weaken its strength. Despite that, its current power was more than half of what Davey remembered. This meant that over half of its divided forms were somehow absorbed or condensed into that singular body.
The dragons here were full-fledged dragons at best, weaker than beings like Felius. There was no need to interrogate Killer Rabbit for any deeper truths.
Still, Davey couldn’t help but wonder what would happen if this rabbit met the constellation Taurus.
Normally, constellations were stronger than ancient beasts, but when they manifested in the same way Taurus did, they often couldn’t utilize their full power.
“President,” Davey called out.
“Yes, sir!”
“Brief me on the situation.”
He then cautiously approached and glanced at Killer Rabbit.
Apparently, it all started when Krukta used up all of Myuu’s paints and sketchbook, which made her cry. To cheer her up, the group had ventured into the forest to find replacements, only to get attacked by dragons.
Most of what Duke said was trivial, but there was one detail that caught his attention.
“You’re saying that this is their secondary dispatch team’s assembly point?”
“Yes, the dragons did mention that, sir.”
“Myuu, come here,” Davey said softly, pulling her into a gentle hug. As he comforted her, she began to hiccup again, feeling saddened.
“It’s okay, it’s okay. I’m here now. I’ll punish those bad lizards for you.”
“Sniff... Really? You’ll punish them?”
“Yes, I’ll scold them so badly they’ll never dare to misbehave again.”
“Okay!” Myuu nodded, rubbing her eyes.
She stole a quick glance at Killer Rabbit, but her face immediately turned pale as if she saw something she shouldn’t have.
No matter how familiar one was, seeing a hulking, snow-white rabbit bodybuilder wearing nothing but a pair of bright red triangle briefs was the furthest thing from eye candy.
"The rabbit... the rabbit got bigger."
“Not exactly the best thing for kids to see.”
He then gathered Krukta, who was still unconscious, Tadia, the still traumatized Maribel, and Duke into one spot.
Although Maribel seemed the most shaken, everyone else also had pale faces, clearly indicating their fair share of PTSD from Killer Rabbit.
“You’ve all been through a lot. You can chalk this whole ordeal up to bad luck.”
“Um...” Duke hesitated before speaking. “I-Is that a real dragon?”
He pointed toward the two dragons that were currently being beaten up by Killer Rabbit. At first glance, the creatures resembled real dragons—not wyverns or even lesser drakes, but actual full-fledged dragons.
Davey, however, dismissed the idea immediately. “Do you think real dragons are that easy to find?”
“What do you mean? Then... what are they?” Duke asked, confused.
“They’re just drakes pretending to be dragons. Recently, creatures like them have been appearing all over the continent. That’s classified information, though, so don’t go spreading it around.”
Tadia, swallowing hard, asked nervously. “Um... Your Highness, what happens if someone does spread it?”
“That’d be your choice, but there are two possibilities. Either people will think you’ve lost your mind.” Davey paused dramatically. “Or... you’ll be assassinated in secret under the pretense of having leaked classified information.”
“Gasp...”
“Either way, it wouldn’t end well for you, got it?” Davey smirked. “Now, head back to the academy. Go straight to Professors Gorneo and Alice for a check-up, starting with that unconscious orc over there.”
With a clap, a flash of light enveloped the group. The eyes of some widened at the sudden spatial warping magic, but they soon accepted it with resigned nods and disappeared with another flash.
“Well then, let’s get back to business. Killer Rabbit, bring those guys over here.”
The massive rabbit, who had been swinging a dragon’s tail that was tens to hundred times bigger than it, paused and turned to look at Davey.
[Oh my. It’s been a while, Davey.]
“Stop it. You’re giving me hives. Anyway, first tell me why you’re here.”
[Simply put, it was a pure coincidence. I stumbled across this place while looking for fruits to help with my muscle doping. Just a coincidence.]
Davey couldn’t wrap his head around the odds that the rabbit Maribel had brought back from the mountain would turn out to be Killer Rabbit. It was both an extraordinary stroke of bad luck and an ironic twist of good fortune.
“You’re moving quite freely now, I see.”
[Yes, surprisingly.]
Crack!
[Aaargh! My neck’s going to break! Let me go! Please, I’m begging you!]
The dragon was so noisy that Davey snapped his fingers to mute the surrounding sound. Turning back to Killer Rabbit, he continued, “I heard the dragons are gathering here. Have you gotten any info about that?”
[I’ve heard bits and pieces, but it’s not really my concern.]
“Figures.” Davey sighed. “Then step aside.”
Walking toward the beaten dragons, Davey stopped in front of a collapsed blue dragon. Climbing onto its snout, he crouched down to stare directly into its eyes.
“Hey. Blue lizard.”
[Grrr...]
The dragon leered at Davey in fury.
[Lower your eyes, lizard.]
But the moment Davey flared his crimson eyes, imbued with the power of the dragontongue he learned courtesy of Eclipse, it instinctively averted its gaze, unable to withstand the oppressive force.
[D-Dragon... Are you, by any chance, an elder?]
It seemed it couldn't fathom the idea of a non-dragon using dragontongue magic, leading them to mistake Davey for one of their own.
"You guys are from the reformist faction, right?"
[T-That’s...]
[Fire of Interrogation]
Crackle! Fwoosh...!
[Kraaahhh!!]
As Davey ripped off one of their scales and ignited them with the most effective torture spell, designed specifically for extracting information, the dragons let out a bloodcurdling scream.
"For every time you hesitate, I’ll rip off another scale. One this time, two next, and then four. And eventually, I’ll burn you whole. Understand?"
The dragon shuddered violently at the merciless words.
[Y-Yes! Yes! We are from the reformist faction!]
"Good. Why are you here?"
[...]
Ssss...
[W-We received orders!!]
As Davey reached for another scale, the dragon flailed in panic, screaming.
[I'm telling the truth! By our monarch’s command, we were sent as a second wave intended to support the vanguard! That’s us!]
"Just the two of you?"
[W-Well...]
"You're taking too long to answer. Hey, Killer Rabbit."
Then Killer Rabbit flexed its grotesque muscles. The dragons turned deathly pale.
Even though it wasn’t his enemy, it even made Davey pale. He could only imagine the trauma Killer Rabbit inflicted upon its actual enemies.
‘What a nasty bastard.’
No matter how he looked at it, Killer Rabbit was the definition of an absolute menace.
‘No wonder people call it an ancient beast.’
Even considering the other ancient beasts he had encountered, none were as brutally terrifying as this one.
[T-The others will be arriving soon! Gold dragon Kaina marked the coordinates! We just so happened to be the first ones here!]
"How many?"
[A-About ten full-fledged dragons, and one elder-level dragon...]
"Guess the message didn’t get through."
The fact that they were trying to overwhelm the situation with sheer numbers rather than an actual strategy meant that the fallen ones had yet to recognize and spread his information.
"Is the main force joining in as well?"
[Y-Yes, that’s right!]
"How many?"
[Uh...]
"You’re not going to answer?”
[We don’t know either! Even the number here is more than we expected!]
"More than expected?"
[Y-Yes! The dragons our monarch brought... We don’t even know where they came from...]
It no longer felt like an ordinary civil war among dragons.
"So basically, if I keep you two here and wait, the fallen ones will come flooding in?"
Instead of dealing with all the hassle of chasing them down, the simplest solution was to bury them all right there in the forest.
Crackle! Sizzle!
As soon as Davey finished his sentence, rifts began appearing across the sky.
Their numbers were far more than what the dragons had claimed.
His gaze sharpened as he watched dragons of various colors emerge from the rifts.
"I never heard that the fallen ones had this many dragons.”
At a glance, he counted twenty. Among them, several even gave him an eerie sense of familiarity.
[Davey, some of them are different.]
Killer Rabbit said while flexing its muscles.
And then—
Davey narrowed his eyes at what he saw.
"Those aren’t Tionis dragons, are they?"
He couldn’t figure out why there were dragons from another continent there.
Every dragon Davey had encountered so far had massive builds, with one to three pairs of wings. But among the ones before him now, some had distinctly different features—almost like they were from a different race entirely.
The problem? He had seen dragons like them before.
"Yosh Continent."
Though he had never been directly trained by them, an adventurer-hero from the Yosh Continent had once shown him records of his firsthand battle experiences. These new dragons resemble what the adventurer-hero had described and shown to Davey.
From what he recalled, the Yosh Continent had suffered a great downfall during the Princesses of the Abyss incident.
Ssss...
Slowly raising his hand, Davey murmured under his breath.
"Red Ribbon, Blue Ribbon.”
With his call, a pair of thin, glowing swords—one crimson, one azure—materialized in his grasp, radiating a fierce light.
The twenty or so dragons in the sky all turned their wary gazes downward.
Davey figured it was only fair that he issued a warning before attacking.
"Attention, all dragons. Do you copy? This is the airspace of the Rowane Kingdom. I don’t particularly care why you’re here, but if you don’t come down immediately, I will shoot you down. Over."
