Chapter 1058

Davey couldn’t remember if Perserque had ever been so intense before.

Day or night, he had always gone through countless battles with her—but it was the first time things had been so one-sided.

She had dragged him to the bedroom, thrown him onto the bed, and climbed right on top of his stomach.

Startled, Davey had turned his head, only to see Rinne poking her head in from outside the window. A moment later, she reached her hand in and gave a quick gesture as if to say, ‘go on, keep doing what you’re doing,’ then vanished completely.

Hoping he could change the mood, he tried to smooth out the awkward atmosphere with a nervous laugh.

“Gaaah?!”

“So you thought I was just playing around, did you?”

From the way she seemed to be barely suppressing her irritation, Davey quickly dropped the playful act and raised both hands in surrender.

“What did you feed me?” she asked sharply.

“Huh?”

“I ended up like this after eating the gift you gave me, so don’t even think about pretending you had nothing to do with it.”

That was when it clicked for him. She was in the process of becoming someone who could bear a child. Given her special circumstances and constitution, she had never properly experienced what women referred to as their monthly visitor. Then, something she was unaware of had clearly triggered a change beyond her control, changing those circumstances.

“If I hadn’t already had those things Illyna brought from Earth before, it would’ve been a total disaster. I’ll ask you again: What did you feed me?”

Her eyes were filled with the unspoken threat of what she’d do depending on the answer, so Davey averted his gaze slightly before responding, “A child.”

She was stunned into silence.

“You always said you wanted one, didn’t you?”

She may have tried to convince him otherwise, but Davey had seen the expression she made whenever she looked at Evangeline or Darian. He could tell.

Even if Illyna wasn’t thinking about kids just yet, Perserque was different. She had existed for over three thousand years. Even if most of that time had been spent in sleep, it was more than long enough for a person to grow and harbor the desire for a child.

Perserque, the forever alone three-thousand-year-old, had eventually found Davey, the one-thousand-year-old chronically single man.

Back when they first got married, the amount of teasing and ridicule they’d endured because of that was no joke.

“I couldn’t stop worrying about you,” Davey said quietly.

Her body wasn’t capable of bearing children, and he had tried everything in his power to change that. Without Gumiho Bi Yeon’s help, it would’ve been impossible. He was sincerely grateful to her for so many things, and felt she had earned the joy a mother would have.

“I can have a child now?” she hesitantly asked.

“Yeah. It’s totally possible now. You can give Darian and Evangeline a younger sibling.”

“A child... A child, huh?” she mumbled blankly to herself.

The way she looked so dazed was oddly adorable, prompting Davey to sit up, lie her on the bed, and look down at her from above. “Let’s just say I kept it a secret since I wanted to surprise you.”

To be honest, the chances of success had only been about fifty-fifty. Judging by the way things were going, it would appear his gamble had worked out pretty well.

She stared up at Davey silently, then slowly sat up.

“The first time is gonna be a little rough,” Davey said. “But after that, you’ll be just like a normal person every month... no, with your current state, you probably won’t even feel any pain, so don’t worry.”

Without a word, she placed a hand on her stomach. Then suddenly, tears began to fall.

“Uhhh. Hmm.”

While Davey looked at her quietly sobbing with her head down, the door opened slightly, and Aeria and Illyna peeked in.

“Ah, sorry. Carry on,” Illyna said.

“Looks like we interrupted something,” Aeria followed.

They tried to retreat quickly, but it wasn’t long before they peeked in again, unable to hold back their curiosity. Blue Ribbon and Red Ribbon also popped their heads in through the opposite door.

“Daddy! Are we getting a baby sibling?”

“Are we getting a new little brother or sister?”

Perserque slowly lifted her head in response, showing her face streaming with tears.

“Uhh. Don’t cry, Mommy!”

They said crying was contagious, and sure enough, Blue Ribbon and Red Ribbon both began to tear up too. They ran to her side, hugging her and trying to comfort her.

“It’s okay. It’s okay, little ones. Come here.”

When she hugged the kids and began to cry softly again, Davey silently watched the scene for a moment before turning around and quietly stepping away.

When someone gained the ability to do what was once impossible for them, it was quite difficult to predict what would happen next. In Perserque’s case, she turned out to be bolder than expected.

“Clothes for the baby. Any kind of clothing is fine, but the baby clothes and toys from Earth are really quite nice.”

“There’s a great store I know. How about we clear our schedules and take a trip sometime soon?”

“What fetus nickname should we give the baby?”

“Hmmm... I’m not sure. How about Arasha? Named after the planet Arasha...”

“I think Kenny would be a good name too.”

‘Shouldn’t they at least wait until Perserque has her pregnancy dream about the baby first, before going all-in on names?’

Not just the servants at the lord’s castle, but even Baris and Winley—who had come to see Davey via the mana gate—had joined the little group, all giggling in excitement.

“Hold on. I hate to ruin the mood, but the baby hasn’t even been conceived yet, you know?”

The room went silent. The truth was, Perserque had simply become biologically capable of having children. It didn’t mean she was pregnant yet. After all, they had only just begun to see the changes in her body for the first time.

After Davey spoke, Aeria and Illyna exchanged glances, then gave Perseerque a little push on the back. “Good luck, sis.”

Perserque flushed red at their teasing giggles, but didn’t reject it either.

‘Yeah. If everything works out from here, this will all be resolved.’

Life had a strange way of unfolding.

Having finished their discussion, Davey sat on a bench in the private garden, getting some fresh air while reviewing local estate matters.

“Davey.”

He looked up to see Daphne approaching. “I thought you went back.”

“I did, but I also forgot to tell you something,” she said while taking a seat beside him. “I heard Perseerque can have a child now.”

“Yeah. Seems like everything went well, thankfully,” he sighed with relief.

“Congratulations. That poor girl must’ve suffered a lot emotionally,” she said as she handed him a small necklace with a cross-shaped charm. “I used a bit of authority on it, so now it’ll help with prenatal care. Give it to her when she’s actually pregnant.”

“Thank you. I’ll make sure she gets it.”

He wondered if this was what global favoritism was. Davey chuckled quietly to himself.

Daphne then cut the silence. “Persephone.”

“Hm?”

“Back then, I used to really hate her. I mean, she was a priestess by background and then broke a major taboo. It was only natural that I’d be angry.”

She finally began sharing things she’d never spoken about before. It seemed she was relieved that Persephone, instead of simply vanishing, was ultimately saved and allowed to join the cycle of reincarnation.

“But somehow, without realizing it, I started looking out for her. Even though I was so harsh with her, all she ever did was laugh like a dumbo.” She shared small, almost confessional stories like she was venting. “Back then, I’d thought she got dragged into trouble while on a mission. I never imagined that the church had secretly sacrificed her in my place behind my back.” freёnovelkiss.com

“Well, at least she’s been found again now. Still... Arta’s soul ended up in a pretty tragic state.”

Though she had no stigmata due to Goddess Freyja not loving her, she had cared deeply for Arta von Pallan.

“She’ll be better off losing her memories and starting a new life. It’ll take time, but...”

“Daphne,” Davey interjected. Her sudden talkativeness, more than she’d usually even say while drunk, made him sense something was off. “Feels like you’re trying to say something.”

She went quiet. Then, after a moment of silence, she finally spoke in a soft voice, “Sorry to rain on the parade, but... maybe you should give it a bit more thought before trying to have a child with her.”

His eyes widened. “What are you talking about—”

“You know... Woochi, Ares, and the other heroes. None of them are exactly thrilled about the idea of Perserque having a child.”

It wasn’t because they hated her, of course.

“For her own sake.”

“Talk to me. What’s the issue?”

Daphne hesitated, but eventually nodded slowly. “This is something I heard from Ares. It's about something that happened when Perserque was very young.”

It was right after she had been adopted. Apparently, there had been an issue with her back then. As Daphne continued informing him of what had happened, Davey couldn’t help his face from hardening. Knowing the truth, he wasn’t confident he could honestly say that there would be no problems for her.

“Of course. No way the world would ever let us have it that easy,” Davey muttered on his seat in his office, staring in silence before slamming his fist down. “Fuck!!”

Crash!!

The desk, unable to withstand the blow, shattered beneath his fist, sending papers flying all across the room.

“Y-Your Highness?! What happened?!”

Startled by the loud crash, Amy banged on the door and shouted, but Davey just clenched his jaw and glared ahead. “It’s nothing, Amy. Sorry, but could you send some people in for repairs? The desk’s completely busted.”

He heard her inhale sharply through the door, but Davey couldn’t calm down. Everything had seemed like it was going perfectly—until this curveball hit right at the end.

“Unbelievable.”

Before long, a few beastfolk attendants walked in, only to flinch at the sight of the destroyed desk.

“Sorry, would you mind cleaning this up for me? Amy, can you gather the papers? I already signed off on everything, so you’ll just have to sort and file them.”

“Your Highness... are you alright?”

Davey gave a quiet nod. “I just need some air.”

Without another word, he strode out, heading for the private garden that overlooked the territory. Perserque was already there, waiting for him with her hands behind her back, humming as she looked out over the land.

“You’re finally here. What kind of trouble could’ve made you so worked up?” she asked in the happiest tone possible as she approached the bench where Davey was sitting.

When he didn’t answer, she sat beside him and leaned her head on his shoulder. “Thank you, Davey. I’ll never forget this kindness.”

“You’re so happy, aren’t you?”

She nodded at his question. “I am, because it means there’s now a physical and biological connection and possibility between you and me. A reason for you to stay, and a reason for me to keep you.”

There was a saying that couples stayed together for their kids. Though it might sound ridiculous to some, she seemed to genuinely like the idea and security of that phrase.

“It’s a little embarrassing to say, but you can look forward to tonight,” she said playfully, curling up her hands like a cat.

Normally, Davey would’ve played along, yet he couldn’t bring himself to even say a word.

“Oh, and I should’ve said this earlier, but... about my father.”

“Huh?”

“I want to meet Sword God Ares.”

Her request made his heart sink even deeper. The two of them had always chosen silence, assuming things were fine as they were. She was the one reaching out first. It should’ve been something worth celebrating, but knowing it was only happening because she could now have a child left a bitter taste in his mouth.

“Perserque,” Davey said quietly.

“Yeah?”

“The baby... let’s wait a little.”

Recognizing the seriousness in her tone, she tilted her head in confusion. “What do you mean?”

“Just... let’s wait a little longer,” he insisted.

She furrowed her brows, staring at him as if she couldn’t understand what he was saying. She had finally reached the moment where she could achieve her long-hidden dream—and now he was asking her to wait.

Frustrated, she gave a rare frown and questioned sharply, “What? Why not? Explain it to me.”

“Perse, listen...” he began.

“Tell me!!” Her voice trembled with desperation. “Whyyy?!”

She clung to him, lightly pounding her fists against his chest. “Why?! Say something!!”

Yet Davey couldn’t explain. He didn't have the heart to tell her that her soul was unlike that of a typical demon. Yes, she could now bear a child, but if another life were to take root in her body, it would unlock a sealed memory tied to her very existence.

He knew she wouldn’t be able to handle it, being inundated with the memories of slaughtering many lives, including the woman Ares von Pallan once loved.

There were times when ignorance truly was bliss.
