The Magic Academy's Physicist-Chapter 136: Please Save Me, Sis (1)
Chapter 136: Please Save Me, Sis (1)
It was nearly a month since he’d been hiding in the basement of the Cultural Center.
After nearly being killed by Rosemary, a single thought took root in Vermel’s mind
This world is no longer a game, and I can’t get by with game knowledge alone.
Actually, he’d always known this. How could he not? It was simply that he had ignored it all this time.
To Vemerl, the fact that this world was a reality and not a game was a terrible nightmare.
He had been sick of his life on Earth–nothing turned out the way he wanted no matter how much he tried.
The world was cruel and rewards weren’t guaranteed. Although there were less threats of war relatively, there was a sense of helplessness that was prevalent in society instead.
A lifeless, ashy world. Vermel hated that uncertainty, which might’ve been why he had escaped into the game.
He liked <Darkest Academia> because things worked out to an extent as long as he followed the strategy. Even if there was no solution, he could just reset it tens, hundreds of times. And while he played, he could distract himself from the reality that was darker than this game.
And so when Vermel had first dropped into this world, he could’ve leapt for joy.
Because he had firmly believed that he could change the world with his knowledge at last.
What a mistake that had been.
Was it the Goddess laughing at him for being lazy, perhaps?
She had sent another transmigrator besides himself. That transmigrator had said that they were dragged into the world while reading the paper submitted by the Goddess, having absolutely no idea why.
Aether had said that she never played a game in her life. She hadn’t even known what <Darkest Academia> was, even though it was a world-famous game despite the issues with the difficulty level.
So Aether obviously didn’t have any game knowledge and therefore, didn’t have any information cheats. Instead, Aether had a different kind of knowledge, something that was definitely useful on Earth as well.
As such, Aether... they wanted to return to Earth. Aether had lost many things because of coming here, and had also left a lot of things back on Earth. So it was more beneficial for her to go back rather than stay here.
Vermel reflected on the words that Aether had told him.
─ You can’t think of this place as a game. It’s real, after all, so we don’t know how Rosemary will act.
“Yes, that’s right.”
This was reality.
He had to break the rules of the game’s scenario he’d learned until now. It was time for more complex thinking and predicting.
Vermel began to think about the future. He wasn’t Aether. He didn’t have an academic background nor any special abilities. He had to find a way to stop the destruction with his knowledge of the future alone.
Think.
How could he put an end to this suffocating basement life. How could he take more initiative. How could he move confidently in a disadvantageous situation.
“... Haaaa.”
The answers didn’t come easily.
Still, there had to be a way. Something that only he could think of.......
“Ah, right....”
The chairman and the others had come and complained about something yesterday.
─ They’ve banned the use of Flare; Blanton must have noticed.
─ With the way things are, we won’t be able to miniaturize it or rescue His Majesty.
─ What should we do now?
Vermel pulled out a pen and notebook. He accepted the story of Flare being prohibited as fact and wrote down everything that he knew.
[Aether joins the chairman’s party and announces plans to miniaturize Flare]
[Mössbayer who was present here is Rosemary’s hired minion]
[→ Therefore it was expected that Rosemary would ban the Flare]
[→ Rosemary is also aware that I’m here]
[Rosemary banned the Flare scroll]
[→ Aether will show some kind of reaction]
[→ Hope she doesn’t bash the Emperor’s head]
“Okay, that should do.”
His mind cleared some after organizing them in order, and it also gave him an idea on what he needed to do.
“Let’s do this.”
Vermel spent a few hours thinking of a new strategy.
A plan to leave here while avoiding Rosemary’s Scope.
**Rosemary took a tea break with Scope temporarily turned off. Her face looked murderous.
Having taken care of state affairs, Duke Blanton closed the door as he entered the room. As per his formal role as the father, Blanton smiled gently as soon as he saw Rosemary.
“What were you doing, my child?”
His voice dripped with honey, but Rosemary’s expression didn’t change one bit.
His superior must not be in a good mood. Feeling sheepish, Blanton changed back to his usual speech.
“... I heard you had a serious conversation with Secundus yesterday. But why do you make such a face, Quartus?”
“I haven’t seen that elf bastard anywhere for a whole month.”
“You mean Vermel Horde. Why do you seek someone who withdrew?”
Rosemary shook the tea bag up and down and responded. Little ripples broke out on the surface of the tea.
“Big sis should know that I banned the Flare scroll, yet she didn’t protest. Do you know what this means?”
“The technical advisor isn’t against us.”
“Right, so we have a bit of relief regarding her situation. Now we have to mark that elf.”
That elf knew that Rosemary and Blanton were Beasts.
He might even act aggressively and hinder their future plans. It was Rosemary’s discretion that it was best to get rid of possible concerns.
“Haaa, where did he go, seriously.”
“I believe he has already left the Academy. You’ve searched all the places where he might’ve been, did you not?”
“Yes, and normally I would’ve given up here.”
Rosemary wet her dried lips with the tea.
“It needs more sweetness.”
She pulled out beryllium crystals from the spice jar and put them in instead of sugar cubes. After she stirred the beryllium into the tea with the teaspoon, that was when some sweetness could be smelled.

“Listen carefully. If the Demon Army’s victory is to taste as sweet as this tea, we have to eliminate every element that could make us bitter.”
“Yes, we all know that.”
“That’s why. The spy that I planted just contacted me, and it seems as if that elf was in the basement of the Cultural Center up until a week ago.”
“A week ago.... Then it has been a while. It’s possible that he may have left by now.”
Blanton had a point as well. It was only that she was saying this based on the worst-case scenario.
“That elf keeps ruining my plans. If we leave him alive, he’ll become an even bigger nuisance later on.”
“But it is strange. How does he know who we are?”
“That’s what I don’t know, either.”
Rosemary gulped down the rest of her tea. It was time to head out.
“I’ll go take one more look. This time, I’m going to turn the basement completely inside out.”
As she stood up and put on her coat, Blanton saw her off. Mostly ignoring his farewell, Rosemary headed straight for the Cultural Center.
There were very few places that her Scope couldn’t reach; the Center’s basement or the club room were about it. So in order to investigate those places, she had to personally drag her delicate form there.
“Huhu, Vermel, Caramel, whoever you are, you better come out right now.”
The moon glowed softly from the sunlight. Rosemary opened the door with stealthy hands like a veteran thief.
Creeeak.
“What, it’s open?”
She had expected a bit of resistance but it opened easier than she thought.
Rosemary let out a huff and stepped inside. The inside was strangely quiet.
“What, why is there no one here?”
This had definitely been an ambush.
It was empty–not a single presence, much less the elf she was seeking. Only silence filled the dark space. Despite finding this strange, Rosemary kept searching the area. 로즈마리는 이상함을 느끼면서도 주위 탐색을 계속 진행했다.
“It’s fine, I left the surveillance cameras, so....... Huh...?”
When Rosemary spotted the six shattered cameras, her eyes rounded.
Lens, flims, everything was damaged. It was to the extent that she wouldn’t be able to restore it.
“That, that son of a....”
It had to be that elf, without a doubt. Clenching her teeth, Rosemary picked up the camera fragments.
Just then.
Baaam!
Rosemary whipped her head around at the loud noise. The door that she had come through was closed.
“W-what is it.”
She dumped all the lens fragments she’d been gathering and rushed to the door. When she pulled the handle just in case, there was a click. It was locked from the outside.
“Y-you elf.... Playing such lowly tricks.... I’ll just rip this thing off...!”
Rosemary pulled on the iron door with force, but it didn’t even budge.
“What the...?”
It was strange. She couldn’t rip this off with her own strength...?
“Huh.... uhh.... Whaaa...?”
Rosemary’s lips quivered.
Heaving, she kept dabbing at her forehead with her sleeve but couldn’t wipe away all the cold sweat that began dripping.
“Th-this can’t be.”
She was trapped in a small space.
It felt like her mental strength was being worn down. Anxious, Rosemary kept pulling on the door but it showed no signs of opening unlike last time.
Thinking that this wouldn’t do, she quickly lit a cigarette. Rosemary then pulled out her staff and struck a blow.
Coong! Cong!
It was no use. It was as hard as diamond, so even using the string didn’t work.
“Is it reinforced with magic...? So that I can’t open it...?”
As memories of her human days surfaced, her breathing began to quicken. She didn’t need very much oxygen, but the once human body was demanding fresh air.
This shouldn’t happen. This couldn’t be happening.
Rosemary pommeled the iron door with everything she had–from left to right, from high to low, from corner to corner. She cut and stabbed tirelessly but the door only bent a little, still standing strong.
“You, you, you.......”
Finally, Rosemary just screamed, unable to maintain her pigmented blue eyes.
“You fuckeeeeer─!!! How the fuck did you even know I hate enclosed spaces!!!”
Rosemary adjusted her grip on the string and twisted her whole body, then smashed the door as strongly as she could using rotational force.
Bang, bang, bang!
The door made of steel plates gradually distorted as the attacks grew stronger. But it must’ve been layered with a lot of spells because it didn’t open even though it seemed like it was about to. Rosemary felt her throat go dry.
“I’ll kill you! I’ll kill you! I’ll kill you!!!”
As her voice rose in pitch, machine sounds erupted from her throat. It was a kind of gurgling accent that sounded like trying to shoot a water gun that wasn’t fully pumped.
She couldn’t think properly because of this damn claustrophobia. Rosemary lit another joint and used lighting magic.
But even electricity was no use. The whole room was a conductor and just absorbed the magic.
“You elf that’s worse than an animal!! If I ever catch you, I’ll chop you up and bury you in cement, you heeeear!!!”
As she mindlessly struck the door, strength gradually drained from her arms.
She began to regret her past decision. If she had known this would happen, she would’ve made sure to kill him at the banquet.
“Right, Requiem...! I should be able to get out if I use Requiem....”
There was only one stick of mana grass left. Rosemary summoned her violin before she ran out of mana.
With shaking hands, Rosemary proceeded to play, but it was difficult to complete the spell because the notes kept going off-pitch. The hand that was holding the string kept slipping due to it being clammy like she had hyperhidrosis.
“Please, please....”
She felt like she was about to cry.
What would the other Great Mechas say if they saw her? She’d definitely become the subject of their entertainment.
She couldn’t ever let that happen. Rosemary used the humiliation to spur herself and exerted her willpower the best she could. But if it could be overcome that easily, then it wouldn’t be called a trauma.
She was almost at her limit. Rosemary clenched her teeth.
And in the next moment–
Click.
The door opened and someone came in.
