The Lustful Villain: Every Milfs and Gilfs are Mine!-Chapter 81. Fell Asleep in a Carriage, Woke Up in the Void (and a Sexy Woman Greeted Me)
People claimed seats in the carriages and loaded their things for the next hour, which was a mess. Rex was put in the fourth carriage with the whole Starlight family: Helena, Diana, Elliot, Lily, and Evelyn.
It was going to be a long trip in a small space, which was great for his needs but could also be hard if he didn’t pay attention to all the different dynamics.
Rex thought the inside of the carriage would be less comfortable than it was.
There were cushioned benches on both sides and room in the middle for bags and supplies. Curtains on the windows let in light and air, but you could close them for privacy or severe weather.
Helena sat down on one side of the window. Diana sat next to her, still looking a little red from her time with Theo. Evelyn and Elliot occupied the other bench, while Lily saved a spot next to her and Diana.
There was one spot open beside Diana, and Rex took it without saying anything.
"Feeling comfortable?" Helena asked as the carriage started to move.
"Yes, surprisingly," Rex said.
The trip had started.
...
For the first few hours, things were pretty quiet. Elliot fell asleep almost right away, with his head resting against the wall of the carriage.
He was worn out from the last few days. Evelyn stayed awake but quiet, and every so often she looked out the window at the scenery going by.
Helena had gotten a book from somewhere and was reading it with the kind of focused attention that made it seem like she was choosing to pay attention to the material instead of the people around her.
This was likely a wise decision, given the emotional complexity of the past few days.
Diana gazed out the window with an intensity akin to someone who was attempting to suppress her thoughts, indicating a constant state of contemplation.
And Lily was pressed up against Rex’s side in a way that was both loving and possessive, and she wasn’t very subtle about either.
She rested her hand on his arm and leaned her head against his shoulder or looked up at him with a look of pure happiness every now and then. It was the body language of someone who was completely sure of where she stood with him and didn’t care about hiding it.
’This girl... she’s going to make everyone suspicious of us...’
Helena noticed it. Rex could tell by the way her eyes moved back and forth between them and her book.
She didn’t say anything or make a comment, but she was definitely aware of what was going on between them, and it’s not even a secret anymore that Lily might have fallen in love with Rex.
Diana noticed it too. She looked at them once, held her gaze for a moment with a thoughtful look on her face, and then went back to the window.
Rex let it happen. There was no point in pushing Lily away or trying to stop the display.
The relationship was going to become clear anyway, and letting it be clear now made it seem normal before anyone could question it.
Also, having Lily so clearly attached to him had many benefits. It showed that he could inspire that level of loyalty, which would change how people saw him.
People like Diana, who might have thought he was interested in them romantically, thought he was less threatening. This gesture provided him with a reason to reciprocate physical affection, which not only maintained his connection to Lily but also subtly demonstrated to others what such a connection could look like.
The hours went by. The sun rose to its highest point and then started to go down.
There wasn’t much talking; everyone was dealing with what had happened in the last few days in their own way.
Rex’s mind was wandering through plans and backup plans. The capital would have different opportunities, power structures, and dynamics.
He would need to make a name for himself quickly, get in touch with the right people, and make himself valuable enough to be kept close but not so powerful that he became a threat.
Valentina, Helena’s mother, would be crucial. A wise and experienced older woman who had the power to call hero parties and protect whole villages.
That meant she had a lot of political or economic power, which meant she was worth getting to know.
And then there were all the other things that could change.
What other people who believe in reincarnation might be in the capital?
What other systems were running at the same time as his?
Which groups and levels of authority might he need to engage with?
His foresight couldn’t show him any of that very clearly. It was too far away and relied on things he hadn’t seen yet, but it could show him what to do next, and those were doable.
Stay close to the Starlights.
Keep working on the relationships he had started.
Make sure his skills are subtle enough that people don’t ask him awkward questions.
And look for ways to get the energy he needs for his next power upgrades.
Two thousand points and two overpowered abilities or the start of saving for Infinite regeneration—is enough. The decision would depend on the specific problems that arise in Aethelgard.
’At this point early on... I’ll just have to enjoy what I have and will have soon.’
...
It was getting dark when Rex finally felt sleepy. The early morning disposal of Marcus’s body, the search of the bandit camp, the archery competition, and the emotional management of many people in many conversations had all added up to real tiredness.
He let his eyes close, leaning back against the cushioned bench, and felt himself beginning to drift.
Lily shifted beside him, making herself more comfortable against his side, and her warmth was pleasant and grounding.
Sleep came gradually, and with it came the dreams.
At first, they were broken up and normal, like the usual junk that fills the space between waking and deep sleep.
The dreams included images of the village, Kruger’s transformation, and Diana’s expression upon seeing Theo.
But then something changed.
The carriage was gone... Lily’s body lost its warmth, and the gentle rocking that had put him to sleep stopped completely.
And Rex was going down.
Not falling through the air, but through the dark. There was no light source and no visible end to the pure, complete darkness.
He couldn’t see his hands in front of his face, and he couldn’t tell which way to go because all directions were the same empty space.
His stomach churned, and he felt as if he was heading towards something dreadful, despite the absence of wind, sound, or any other indicators of movement other than the intense sensation in his gut.
He tried to use his telekinesis to stop the fall, but there was nothing to push against. The darkness was complete and empty, so his power couldn’t get a grip on it.
Time lost all meaning.
He may have been falling for either a few seconds or a few hours, during which the void consumed everything, including his ability to perceive time.
And then, without warning or change, he hit the ground.
He believed his speed was such that the impact should have fractured every bone in his body. Instead, it was gentle, almost soft, like stepping onto a floor with a lot of padding.
’The fuck...?’
Rex stood up and tried to figure out what was going on around him. The darkness was still there, but the feeling of falling was gone.
Instead, he felt solid ground under his feet.
’What the fuck is this place...?’
He stepped forward to test the ground, and it felt solid beneath him. He took another step. Then another.
Then a voice came from the dark, and it wasn’t his voice or any voice he knew.
"Welcome, Desire’s Chosen," the voice said. "We have a lot to talk about."
Rex could see where the voice was coming from, and from there he could see a woman in front of him.
The woman, if Rex could call her that, was full of contradictions. She was tall, almost as tall as him, and her body seemed to be made to catch the eye and keep it.
Her skin was pale, and in the red light, it looked almost like it was glowing. Her hair fell in waves of deep black that seemed to soak up the light around it.
She wore something that could be called a dress, but it looked more like shadows and fabric had come to an agreement. Her dress clung to her body in a way that left little room for imagination, all while maintaining a classy appearance.
Rex was drawn to her eyes, though, and they held his attention.
They were a deep violet color, almost black, with red flecks that looked like they were swirling and dancing like embers in a dying fire. And to be exact, those eyes were not kind.
Their eyes weren’t mean and hungry for desire, like those of a predator that had found something intriguing and was deciding whether to eat it or play with it.
Rex wasn’t scared of it, but he was just curious.
He said, "Let me guess," in a casual tone.
"You own this place and bring me here for a good reason."
