The Long Road to Love: The Capable CEO Dad-Chapter 539: I Don’t Want Opportunists to Slip In
Actually, they really do look quite good together, but everyone couldn’t get past the fact that this girl resembles Gloria Galloway so much.
"I took him back, sorry for interrupting your gathering."
The girl was very well-behaved, struggling to support Jude Shaw.
Most of Jude’s body was leaning on her, his eyes slightly closed.
Everyone present remained silent, watching the two gradually walk away.
Once the scene quieted down again, Samantha Sullivan rubbed her forehead.
"What is this all about? Is Jude Shaw really planning to get married? Does this mean he and Julian Sterling can never be friends again?"
As a man, it would be hard to let go of something like this, right?
No one answered her, everyone’s mood was down.
Hugo Quinn was the first to stand up, taking Eleanor Hollis’s hand.
"Not in the mood to eat anymore, let’s go, everyone disperse."
Eleanor followed behind him, her mood also very low.
After getting into the car, Hugo stared blankly at the street scene outside, suddenly speaking to the front.
"Lan Yancy, help me investigate that girl’s background. I don’t want anyone to take advantage of the situation."
Lan Yancy nodded and immediately made a phone call.
Eleanor just sat beside Hugo, not speaking, her head hanging low.
Gloria Galloway was her good friend, no one could get over such a matter. She was clearly dead, had already chosen her path, yet why did she still reside so actively in so many people’s hearts? Gloria must be unhappy too, right?
"Eleanor."
Hugo sensed her low emotions and embraced her.
Eleanor sighed, resting her head on his shoulder.
"I just feel so uncomfortable. I didn’t expect things to turn out this way, I thought Jude Shaw had genuinely figured things out, wanting to find a girl to marry."
Hugo patted her shoulder, "I didn’t expect this either; it’s all his choice. If there’s nothing wrong with that girl’s background, maybe they’d be good together. At least, she could bring Jude out of the abyss of hell."
Indeed, that girl’s personality was great. Willing to treat Jude with a forgiving heart, perhaps one or two years, she could truly move Jude.
When they returned to the villa, the girl’s information was already placed on the coffee table.
Hugo took it up and flipped through it, his brow furrowing slightly.
"How is it? Is her background complicated?"
Eleanor leaned over to take a look, feeling even more dejected at what she saw.
Jacobs Family’s illegitimate daughter? Yvette Jacobs’s sister? The world really is small.
"Does Jude Shaw know she’s the illegitimate daughter of the Jacobs Family? He hates Yvette so much, this girl is definitely in for tough days ahead."
Hugo shook his head, it seemed Jude didn’t know. Although Vivian Jacobs was the Jacobs Family’s illegitimate daughter, she hadn’t had any contact with the family over the years, living with her mother. Jude’s connection with her formed because he had been supporting her family from high school, funding her education all the way through college.
Eleanor felt this was another doomed relationship.
"Tell Jude Shaw, lest this girl walks the same path as Gloria did. She looks so much like Gloria; I don’t want him to get hurt too."
Eleanor spoke in a flat voice, nestled wearily on the sofa.
Hugo nodded, this definitely needed to be told to Jude.
He packed up the information again and asked Lan Yancy to deliver it to Jude.
At that moment, Jude was already home, with Vivian carefully tending to him.
"I’ll get you something to sober up, then you’ll feel better."
She searched the refrigerator for a while and brought over a glass of cold water.
Jude groggily raised his head, looking at her back, his vision quickly blurring.
She really resembled Gloria, having that tenacious spirit. It was Gloria’s tenacity he had disliked most; if she’d given up on Julian Sterling earlier, maybe things wouldn’t have ended that way.
"Gloria."
He grabbed her hand, his eyes dazed.
Vivian paused, lowering her gaze.
"You’re drunk, open your mouth and take this medicine."
But Jude seemed not to hear, just stared blankly at her.
Vivian had no choice but to pry open his mouth, give him the pill, and feed him some water.
The cold water brought him back to his senses.
"I’m sorry."
He rubbed his temples, his face full of helplessness.
Vivian shook her head, she was used to it. She knew there was someone else in his heart, but she’d try hard, she wouldn’t just give up.
The doorbell rang, and Vivian ran to open it, finding Lan Yancy standing outside.
Lan Yancy nodded and, upon entering, handed the information to Jude.
"The CEO asked me to give you these. He said you can get married, but you should at least know who you’re marrying."
Jude was sober now and gently opened the folder,
and Vivian, standing by the sofa, was a bit nervous; she had a hunch the folder was about her.
But she had no secrets to hide from him.
Jude finished reading, his expression calm.
"You’re the illegitimate daughter of the Jacobs Family?"
Vivian was startled. Did he care about her status as an illegitimate child?
"Yes, but I haven’t been in touch with the Jacobs Family all these years. They have long forgotten my existence."
"Yvette Jacobs is your sister?"
Jude seemed not to hear her, continuing his questioning.
Vivian instantly felt pressured, swallowing nervously.
"Yes, I only know she’s my sister. I’ve seen her from afar once, but she disdains me, always thinking I’ve brought disgrace to the Jacobs Family."
Jude’s face was full of derision as he casually tossed the folder onto the coffee table.
"Lan Yancy, you can go for now. I have something to discuss with her."
Lan Yancy nodded, casting a sympathetic glance at the girl.
Vivian grew more nervous; she truly had no idea what had transpired.
"Jude, is something wrong? Or do you dislike my status as an illegitimate child? But I cannot choose my birth."
Jude quietly closed his eyes, lightly drumming on the coffee table.
"Do you know how Gloria Galloway died? Her death is somewhat related to your sister, Yvette Jacobs, the woman I despise the most, very, very much."
Vivian turned pale, clenching her hands tightly.
"I won’t contact her; I really have nothing to do with her. If the Jacobs Family cared about my life, why would I need your support to study all these years? You understand my situation, Jude. I don’t want to leave you."
Jude said nothing. How small this world was; the girl he had been supporting turned out to be the Jacobs Family’s illegitimate daughter, how ludicrous.
"Jude..."
Vivian slowly knelt down, pounding his leg lightly.
Jude found it amusing, was she trying to flatter him?
Vivian saw the teasing look in his eyes, her face instantly turned crimson.
