Chapter 76: Dungeon

Suddenly, a bright light appeared again. This time it was twice as bright. Alvaric couldn’t see anything. The light was too dazzling, but he didn’t stay still. Alvaric swung his sword in a circular motion. He also channeled his magic. But nothing happened.

The light slowly dimmed, and when Alvaric opened his eyes, he suddenly saw Serya staring at him with a confused look.

"Did you have a nightmare?" asked the woman.

Alvaric touched his body. He pinched his thigh, and the pain answered his question. However, Alvaric remembered that in the previous empty place, it felt the same. He had also felt pain. This was confusing— which of the two events was real?

Alvaric looked to the right and saw trees. He was inside a horse carriage. He stuck his head out to get a clearer look at the front. Alvaric scratched his head, confused.

"Is this the real one?"

Serya and Velka looked at each other. They were also confused by Alvaric’s behavior. Earlier, he was asleep. Then suddenly, he screamed by himself and almost drew his sword and made a slash. If Serya hadn’t immediately stopped his hand, perhaps the carriage would have been cut in two.

Now, Alvaric was acting even stranger. He looked like someone who was completely dazed.

"What happened?" Serya asked again.

Alvaric sat back down calmly. He started to assume that what he experienced earlier was just a dream. But a very strange and illogical dream.

Alvaric looked toward Serya. "Nothing."

That answer was clearly a lie. Serya knew it a little, but she didn’t press further. People lie because they don’t want the truth to be known by the person they’re talking to. Serya understood that very well, so she didn’t push too hard.

And besides, it wasn’t too useful for her. The only thing she expected from Alvaric was his strength and the great destiny he carried.

"We’ll arrive in 27 more hours. Still a long way. You should sleep again," said Serya.

She deliberately changed the topic to avoid awkwardness. Though, in the end, it was still awkward. Nothing happened for several minutes. Everyone was silent and lost in their own thoughts until finally Serya opened the conversation again.

"Sir Alvaric, who do you think is stronger— you or that general Leon?" Serya asked just for small talk.

"Leon? Which general is that?"

"The one who uses a sword and shield."

"He’s stronger. My strength might only be 15% of his. Without my regeneration skill, my chance of losing is 99%. The 1% is if he’s stupid and kills himself. There’s almost nothing I can do to win," Alvaric explained.

He admitted that Leon was too strong for him to face without his Regeneration ability. Alvaric didn’t want to imagine it because out of a thousand imaginations, maybe in 995 of them he’d die. Except for the one chance where both of them would die.

That was before, but now Alvaric had new powers— Blood Domain and Eyes of Monarch. Two abilities that might change everything.

"I figured. You are indeed weaker than them," Serya remarked casually.

Alvaric glanced at her. He did admit that Leon and the other generals were stronger than him, but hearing it come from someone else’s mouth was annoying. Alvaric wanted to curse, but he held back. He didn’t want to cause trouble.

"Your words are annoying, but they’re facts."

Serya looked deeply at Alvaric. "But I believe that you can kill all the generals with your own hands. But we won’t stand idly by. We’ll always be behind you," said Serya firmly.

Hearing that, Alvaric’s mood lifted. He could even smile and nod happily. Being supported by others was enough to make him feel glad. But that didn’t mean Alvaric would fully trust Serya. The words of the old man earlier still echoed in his head.

Alvaric had seen that Serya was loved by her people, but the feeling of suspicion and caution always lingered in his mind. Especially when he wanted to close his eyes.

"Thank you."

After a long journey without much rest, they finally arrived in front of a large cave. From within the cave, a thick magical energy radiated. It made Alvaric a little excited. He even smiled.

His journey to this place had been quite difficult because he had to fight several bandits, monsters, and others. Until finally, he stood in front of the entrance to the dungeon.

"Why are dungeons always shaped like holes like this?" Alvaric whispered softly.

"What did you expect? A dungeon with no entrance? Looks like your brain is still a bit scrambled from that centipede earlier," Serya mocked.

Alvaric glanced slightly. "You’re right."

Alvaric stood a few steps in front of the cave entrance. The air coming from inside was cold and damp, touching his skin and making him shiver slightly. He was the only one not wearing a shirt. No wonder he felt cold.

Besides that, there was the scent of damp earth mixed with a faint metallic smell— a sign that the place inside was muddy and dirty. Alvaric didn’t like it.

"You two not coming down?" Alvaric teased.

Velka got down from the carriage first, carrying a small scroll that seemed to contain a map or notes. She opened the sheet slowly, reading a few lines of ancient symbols and writings that Alvaric didn’t understand. It was the language of the Demi-human race. Alvaric didn’t understand a bit.

Serya nodded several times. "This is the place. We call it the Mouth of Yggravel," said Velka, her voice flat but cautious. That name wasn’t the original name of the dungeon or cave, but a name made up by Serya herself.

Serya pulled her hood over her head, staring into the cave as if trying to read the depths of its darkness. Her hair fluttered slightly, blown by the wind from within.

"This place still feels very strange, as if something terrifying lives inside. We will enter, but I won’t be responsible if someone gets killed," she said, half-warning.

Alvaric took a deep breath. He knew this wasn’t just an ordinary adventure. The energy from within the dungeon wasn’t just thick, but also felt... wild. As if something alive was watching them from within the darkness.

Alvaric gripped his sword tighter, then turned to look at his two companions. He was very excited. There was anxiety in his head, but he was more eager to level up. He needed as many monsters as possible to level up.

"How deep will we go?" asked Alvaric.

"We just need to retrieve something from the first floor. No need to go too deep, unless you feel like challenging high-level creatures," Serya replied, raising one eyebrow. "Your chance of dying is very high. So, how about it?" she asked back.

Alvaric just gave a crooked smile. "I’m not in the mood to play today. We’re going to destroy every enemy that comes."

Velka began preparing protective charms, hanging one on Alvaric’s neck and another for herself. "This will protect you from illusion magic disturbances. At least for the first hour," she said softly.

’Let’s go!’

They began to step into the cave.

The light from outside faded more and more. The air became heavier and stiffer. The stone walls around them were covered in moss that emitted a faint green glow. The atmosphere felt quiet— too quiet, even their footsteps echoed for a long time.

Every step Alvaric took felt terrifying. He couldn’t stop shivering. His sword trembled slightly, as if sensing pressure from within. Alvaric channeled his qi— it helped a little.

Suddenly, the sound of dripping water was heard— soft but clear. Occasionally there was the sound of wind, but there was no source. Everything felt too calm.

"Don’t split up," Serya whispered from behind.

Their steps continued until finally, the corridor opened into a larger room. In the middle of the room, there was a kind of stone altar. On top of it stood a two-meter-tall statue, shaped like a human-like creature, but with four arms and an insect-shaped head.

"This... is the first floor guardian," said Velka, her eyes unblinking.

Alvaric slowly stepped forward, staring at the statue. It felt familiar. Like he had seen that form somewhere else... or maybe in his dream? He wasn’t sure.

But before he could think further, the statue began to crack. Slowly but surely, its body rumbled. The stone around it peeled away, revealing dark metallic skin underneath.

Serya immediately drew her weapon.

"Get ready. We’re not alone anymore."

Alvaric took a deep breath, then exhaled slowly. His eyes glowed faint red.

"Looks like I won’t be sleeping early tonight."

Alvaric took a deep breath, then exhaled slowly. His eyes glowed a faint red.

"Looks like I won’t be sleeping early tonight."

"You plan to sleep in a place like this? You’re completely unreasonable," complained Serya, unable to hold back her overwhelming hunger.

"Are you stupid? That’s not what I meant," Serya grumbled. She slightly teased Sana, who was incredibly beautiful.

Suddenly, Alvaric burst out laughing loudly. "I know. Relax!"

"Let’s keep going!" said Serya without showing a trace of hesitation. Even though it was terrifying, that was just how they were.

But in the end... things turned out differently.
