Chapter 48: The Assault (Part 6)

Gramn and Clard were stunned by what they saw in front of them. There were four people standing there—but one of them had horns.

"What is the meaning of this, Raiga?" Clard hissed, his eyes trembling from both pain and fury. "Are you betraying us?"

Raiga didn’t respond immediately. He lowered his head slightly, then spoke softly, "This isn’t betrayal. This is redemption."

"Redemption?!" Gramn barked. "You’re going to hand us over to those filthy insects?! We’re generals! We’ve protected the demi-humans! Without us, all of you would’ve been dead long ago!"

Raiga knew that. He was truly grateful for what they had done. But he couldn’t allow Chillg City to be destroyed. He would do anything to protect it—even if it meant sacrificing two royal generals.

"I’m sorry, but this is the only way I can protect Chillg," Raiga said gently. "I was too late to realize the Ant Bees have a Demon on their side. Forgive me."

"You..."

Clard clenched his teeth. He tried to stand, but his body was still unstable from the poison of the Twin Venom Slash.

Just as they were about to get up, Tamae suddenly stepped forward, without hesitation. Srak!

"AAARRGHHH!!"

A swift, sharp slash cut through both Gramn’s and Clard’s right wrists in a single move. Blood sprayed out.

"Aaagh!! You bastard!" Gramn screamed, falling to his knees while holding what was left of his arm. "If I wasn’t injured, I’d kill you all!"

"You’re insane! All of you are insane!" Clard glared at Raiga, his eyes bloodshot with rage.

Raiga swung his sword down onto the ground. "Please... sacrifice yourselves. For the safety of the many demi-humans and for Chillg City."

Clard wanted to shout, but the pain in his arm prevented him from saying much.

He turned slowly... toward the horned creature.

That demon woman stood at the edge of his vision, her killing gaze piercing into his heart. A dark aura enveloped her body. Two curved black horns protruded from her head. Her eyes... glowed red, reflecting deep hatred.

Clard swallowed hard. He knew who she was. Not a human. Not just a demon. A high-ranking demon that had lived for thousands of years.

"Why is a creature like her here?" Clard thought.

Lyrith clenched her fists. Her fingertips began to turn black, wrapped in dark magic. She was ready to finish off Clard and Gramn right there.

But...

Raiga held her shoulder. "Don’t do it! Let your friend be the one to do it."

Lyrith hissed quietly, but eventually nodded.

"Go inside," Raiga said, soft but firm. "Heal your friend. We’ll hold these two."

Without a word, Lyrith stepped into the Ant Bee nest. Her body was still surrounded by a dark magical aura that slowly faded. Tamae followed behind her, her steps calm but cautious.

He swallowed hard. "Please... let this work."

Raiga looked up at the sky turning crimson—sign of the sun setting.

"This is the sacrifice I must make..." he whispered to himself.

Of course Raiga felt heavy about making this decision, but he was the leader of Chillg City. His duty was to protect his people.

He would do anything.

"If the king finds out about all this, you’ll be sentenced to death," Clard threatened.

"But he won’t find out. I can manipulate everything," Raiga replied.

Clard clenched his fists. His glare pierced toward Raiga, hatred seeping from deep within—but he could no longer fight back.

His battle with Niva had drained all his strength. And the poison inside his body kept eating away at him.

Now, it was only a matter of time before death came.

***

Tamae and Lyrith had already gone inside. Upon entering, Tamae was filled with fear. She knew this would spark Alvaric’s fury.

"Will I be killed too?" Tamae wondered.

Her entire body trembled with fear. Just moments ago, she would’ve died if she hadn’t managed to calm Lyrith down and explain who she was.

Tamae’s words had triggered Lyrith’s memories of Alvaric and the Ant Bees.

Afterward, Tamae offered her help—even though she had no idea what had happened. Once Lyrith explained everything, she understood and immediately bought the antidote.

"I will protect you," Lyrith said.

"Aren’t you angry at me?" Tamae asked, her voice slightly shaking.

"Of course I want to kill all of you... but without you, I would never have found the cure for Alvaric."

Tamae felt a bit relieved. She had protection now, meaning she might survive this.

After descending, they were teleported by the Ant Bee mage. In seconds, they arrived at the room where Alvaric was. The Queen Ant Bees surrounded his body, clearly worried as his condition worsened.

As they approached Alvaric, Tamae quickly averted her gaze. His entire body was green and parts of it had begun to rot. The stench was overwhelming. Tamae nearly vomited.

"I just need to make him drink this potion, right?" Lyrith asked.

"Yes."

Lyrith sighed in relief. She opened the bottle and carefully poured the potion into Alvaric’s mouth. No reaction.

Lyrith and Tamae waited. Both of them hoped the potion would work.

"Come on, work!" Tamae prayed in her mind.

If Alvaric didn’t recover, Lyrith would likely lose control again. And Tamae would die for sure. She trembled, clenching her hands together in a prayerful gesture.

Two minutes passed. Then Alvaric’s body began to glow faintly. His skin gradually returned to normal. His breathing eased. His wounds slowly healed.

Tamae sighed in relief. "Thank goodness."

She looked at Alvaric, who slowly opened his eyes. His body was no longer green or rotting. The poisonous aura around him had almost completely disappeared. Alvaric coughed softly and groaned weakly.

"Ugh..."

Lyrith immediately bent down, hugging him tightly, as if she had just found a lost world.

"Alvaric..." her voice cracked. "You’re back..."

Alvaric was still weak. He furrowed his brow. "What happened?"

Tamae gave a small smile, though her body still trembled.

Alvaric took a deep breath. But confusion still lingered in his eyes. He looked at Tamae, then around the room—the Queen Ant Bees looked relieved, as if something terrifying had just been averted. Alvaric didn’t remember anything. He didn’t even know he had been poisoned.

He looked toward Tamae, confused. "Why are you here?" he asked softly.

Tamae stayed silent, unable to answer right away.

Alvaric turned his head slowly, searching for something... or someone.

"Where... is Niva?"

Suddenly, silence blanketed the room.

Lyrith turned away. Tamae lowered her gaze. Alvaric’s heart felt like it was being crushed. He sensed something terrible. He grabbed Lyrith’s shoulders.

"Tell me... where is Niva?!"

Lyrith kept her head down. "I’m sorry!" she replied.

Alvaric felt something stab into his chest. Pain.

"Why are you apologizing? Tell me the truth! Where is Niva?" Alvaric asked again.

Lyrith trembled slightly. She clenched her fists. "...Niva is gone."

Thump...

Alvaric froze. Shocked.
