The Lady of the Prestigious Family is a Big Boss-Chapter 88 - 0, Wholeheartedly treat someone well (Second update)
The wind was ice-cold, carrying drizzling rain as it blew against her face.
After a while, Ye Jiuliang bent over to pick up the meal box and turned to enter the house.
Setting the meal box on the table, Ye Jiuliang sat cross-legged on the carpet, lost in thought.
After pondering for a moment, she still decided to open the meal box.
The moment she lifted the lid, an enticing aroma wafted out.
Instantly, her stomach grumbled loudly.
The fish congee smelled so good, Ye Jiuliang licked her lips.
She had harshly cut ties with Li Mochan, so if she ate what he sent over, wouldn’t that be contradictory?
Biting the hand that feeds you, no, that wouldn’t do. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
After much consideration, Ye Jiuliang closed the meal box again.
Forget it, she’d better go out to find something to eat instead.
Just as she was about to get up, the doorbell suddenly rang.
Could it be Wei Bei again?
"Xiaojiu." The door opened, and a gentle voice came through.
The kindly smiling face of the old lady came into view, prompting Ye Jiuliang to pause briefly, "Grandma Jiang."
"Xiaojiu, I haven’t seen you for several days; I’ve been thinking about you. Won’t you invite me in to sit?" Mrs. Jiang, the old lady, said with a smile.
Ye Jiuliang stepped aside, "Grandma Jiang, please come in and have a seat."
Mrs. Jiang took her hand, "I heard you caught a cold. Are you feeling better now?"
Aju closed the door and followed them inside.
Ye Jiuliang, "It’s been better for a while."
"Haven’t you eaten yet?" Mrs. Jiang glanced out of the corner of her eye and saw the meal box on the table, a hint of a smile flickering in her eyes.
Ye Jiuliang nodded, and Mrs. Jiang pulled her to sit, with no reservations.
"Then you should eat quickly; you’ve become so thin. Eat while we talk."
Ye Jiuliang looked at the meal box on the table, feeling conflicted.
"Not feeling hungry?" Mrs. Jiang asked knowingly.
"Um..." She couldn’t very well tell the old lady straight out that the meal box was something her grandson had sent and that she didn’t want to eat it.
"Then how about I have Aju make something for you? What would you like to eat?" Mrs. Jiang asked with a beaming smile.
Nearly overwhelmed by the old lady’s enthusiasm, Ye Jiuliang said, "Grandma Jiang, I appreciate your kindness, but it’s really not necessary; I’m not hungry."
Mrs. Jiang, "Your face has gotten so thin, and you still say you’re not hungry."
"Miss Ye, what do you like to eat? I’ll cook something for you," Aju chimed in.
Unable to resist the warmth of the two of them, Ye Jiuliang touched her nose and reached for the meal box on the table, "It’s no trouble, I’ll just eat this."
Mrs. Jiang smiled contentedly, and as Ye Jiuliang bowed her head to open the meal box, Mrs. Jiang gave Aju a knowing wink.
Aju returned the smile with understanding.
Ye Jiuliang picked up a spoon and tasted the fish congee – it was both fragrant and rich.
"This fish congee smells quite nice," Mrs. Jiang remarked, as if casually.
"Xiaojiu, where did you buy this?"
"Cough, cough, cough." Ye Jiuliang was successfully choked.
She grabbed a tissue to wipe her mouth, and with slight embarrassment, she said, "Well, I’m not exactly sure, it was given to me by someone else."
Madam Jiang smiled without saying a word, not pressing for details.
With others present, Ye Jiuliang merely nibbled at her food.
"Xiaojiu, Mohan is not home tonight, and I’m so bored eating dinner alone. Why don’t you come back with me later, and have dinner at Mo Garden?" Madam Jiang said.
Meeting the old lady’s expectant gaze, Ye Jiuliang hesitated.
"This..."
"I knew it when you said you’d have dinner with me before; you were just fobbing me off." Seeing her hesitate, Madam Jiang added more fuel to the fire, pressing her advantage.
Seeing Madam Jiang’s tears were about to start flowing, Ye Jiuliang felt nothing but helplessness, sheer helplessness.
"Grandma Jiang, I’ll come back with you later."
Well, it was just one meal anyway, and she had agreed to it earlier.
Upon hearing this, Madam Jiang’s eyes crinkled with a smile. Then, thinking of something, she tentatively asked, "Xiaojiu, has that rascal Mohan made you angry?"
Ye Jiuliang curved her lips slightly, "No, Grandma Jiang, you’re overthinking it."
"Mohan, that rascal, might seem a bit lofty on the surface, but as long as he acknowledges someone, he treats them with all his heart," Madam Jiang said slowly.
"Xiaojiu, if Mohan has upset you in any way, please forgive him this once for my sake."
Ye Jiuliang pursed her lips, her voice involuntarily softening as she breezed over the topic, "Grandma Jiang, I’m not mad at him."
Knowing when to stop, Madam Jiang changed the subject, "Xiaojiu, it’s still early, why don’t we go out for a bit, and after shopping, we’ll head back to Mo Garden together?"
Staying at home was just as boring, and since the old lady had suggested it, she couldn’t easily refuse.
Ye Jiuliang nodded in agreement.
The driver waited outside while Ye Jiuliang and Madam Jiang got into the backseat, with Aju sitting in the passenger seat.
In front of the counter, Madam Jiang took Ye Jiuliang around.
"Jiuliang, I think this suits you very well, what do you think?" Madam Jiang pointed to a dress on the mannequin, looking at Ye Jiuliang with a smile, like a grandmother who adored her granddaughter.
Ye Jiuliang’s lips twitched slightly as she looked at the white knee-length dress in Madam Jiang’s hand.
Her memories of wearing dresses remained only from when she was living with the Ye Family as a child; since going abroad, she had hardly ever worn dresses.
She declined indirectly, "Grandma Jiang, I have enough clothes, I really don’t need to buy any."
Madam Jiang shook her head, "Young girls should wear colorful clothes, don’t always dress in black and white. Besides, Xiaojiu, you’re so beautiful, you’d definitely look great in dresses."
As she spoke, she scrutinized Ye Jiuliang carefully, estimating her size with just a glance.
She turned to the sales assistant and quickly pointed at the clothes on the rack, "This one, this one, and that one, pack them all up for me."
The clothes here were each quite expensive, and the commission from so many would match her salary for several months. The sales assistant grinned so broadly her eyes disappeared, "Of course, please wait a moment."
Ye Jiuliang was just about to speak up, but Madam Jiang cut her off, "Xiaojiu, since you’ve come shopping with me today, consider these as a small token of my appreciation. If you refuse, I would be very upset."
"Thank you, Grandma Jiang." Ye Jiuliang couldn’t refuse anymore and offered a forced smile.
After all, being advanced in years, Madam Jiang got tired after a while and took Ye Jiuliang back home.
When they returned to Mo Garden, Li Mochan wasn’t there, and Ye Jiuliang heaved a sigh of relief internally.
After having tea, Madam Jiang began to fuss over the clothes she bought for Ye Jiuliang.
Apparently having a special preference for the white dress, Grandma Jiang immediately picked it, "Xiaojiu, since we have nothing better to do, why don’t you try on the dress and see if it fits?"
Try on the dress?
Ye Jiuliang’s hand shook, almost dropping her teacup.
"Grandma Jiang, this... there’s no need for that."
"Yes, there is. When you buy clothes, of course, you have to try them to see if they fit, otherwise, it’s such a waste," Madam Jiang started exercising her gift of persuasion again, "Xiaojiu, are you looking down on my taste, don’t you like these dresses?"
