The Lady of the Prestigious Family is a Big Boss-Chapter 854: Don’t You Have Anything to Ask Us? (2)
For more than two months, she had always visited Asheng alone, knowing full well that he didn’t avoid their son out of unwillingness, but rather due to his own guilt and inability to get past that hurdle.
"Veya, you know, my worry is far beyond that," Jiang Hai sighed, the furrows on his brow deepening.
Although he hadn’t gone to the island to see him, he had some understanding of his condition.
Over two months had passed, yet he hadn’t let go, perhaps because he was unwilling to abandon his decision.
He knew his own son well enough; on the surface he seemed gentle, but in reality, he was quite stubborn.
Veya’s smile faded, her expression turning complex, "Ahai, are we really doing the right thing?"
Jiang Hai replied calmly, "We’re doing this for his own good."
"But every time I’ve visited him, I’ve never seen Asheng genuinely smile. He’s no longer as happy as he used to be," Veya spoke slowly, her nose tingling with emotion.
Once, without announcing her visit in advance, she saw him riding a jet ski across the waters, his low, outcry hiding disappointment and sorrow.
It was the first time she saw him losing control, and when she watched him dismount the jet ski, she noticed the slight redness in his eyes, a rare show of vulnerability.
Jiang Hai held her, gently patting her back, his deep eyes flickering with uncertainty, "The pain is temporary. Given time, he’ll eventually forget, and things will get better."
Perhaps these words were meant to console himself as well.
He knew it would take a long time for Asheng to be as happy as he once was, but even so, as family, they would keep waiting.
At the very least, this way, he would always remain safe in their presence. Suffering the same blow as Tan Yan, he couldn’t bear a second loss.
Veya slowly closed her eyes, choking on her words as she made a sound of assent.
...
At the airport, scenes of separations and reunions played out repeatedly.
Getting out of the car, Chu Chen reached for the backpack, while his other hand held Gu Xinuo’s.
He glanced sideways at her, "Do you want to buy something to eat on the plane?"
Gu Xinuo shook her head, her lips curling up, "By the time we get back, we probably can only catch a late-night snack. It’s been so long since we’ve been to that night market we used to visit."
His perceptive black eyes saw through her little intentions, and he laughed, "Then let’s go to the night market when we return, and head back home after the snack."
Gu Xinuo nodded, casually scanning the surroundings.
Suddenly, a distinct figure caught her eye and drew her attention.
She paused, shaking Chu Chen’s hand, "Achen, look who that is."
Chu Chen’s eyes held a flicker of surprise as he followed her gaze, recognizing the figure even though they were heavily covered in a hat and mask.
What a coincidence?
"Achen, let’s go say hello."
Before he could respond, Gu Xinuo was already pulling him over.
Near the entrance, the white-clad figure was huddled in a corner, thoroughly concealed.
Judging by the silhouette and attire, it was clear that he was a man, with the meticulous disguise occasionally drawing sideways glances from passersby.
The man was engrossed in his phone, so much so that he didn’t notice anyone approaching.
"Hey."
The deliberately restrained voice was close at hand.
The voice sounded so familiar.
The man paused his tapping on the phone, looked up, and two familiar faces entered his view.
His charming green eyes flashed with surprise, and for a moment, the man stood dazed.
Catching the surprise in his eyes, Gu Xinuo teased, "It’s been a while, Yisheng. You wouldn’t have forgotten us, would you?"
Jiang Yisheng snapped back to reality, a grin appearing beneath his mask, "What a coincidence, what are you doing here?"
"We came to see Xiaobai, and now we’re heading back to Y Country," Gu Xinuo assessed him, noticing he seemed even thinner than before.
He probably hadn’t been doing well these days either.
Jiang Yisheng was slightly surprised, "So soon?"
It was just the two of them, did that person not come?
With that thought, his gaze involuntarily scanned the surroundings, hoping to catch a glimpse of that familiar figure.
Even from afar, that would have been enough.
Noticing his distraction, Chu Chen asked, "Are you waiting for someone here?"
Jiang Yisheng nodded, "The family driver will take a while to arrive."
"Yisheng, is there nothing you want to ask us?" Gu Xinuo subtly inquired.
Even if he was slow, Jiang Yisheng knew what she meant, and he smiled lightly, "Safe travels, I’ll treat you to a meal when there’s time."
He avoided talking about it, and Gu Xinuo didn’t push further, "Then we’ll be leaving."
Jiang Yisheng responded with a sound of agreement.
Raising his eyes to look at him, Chu Chen spoke in a low voice, "The K organization is a fun and beautiful place, and... well, you should visit, you’d probably like it."
Jiang Yisheng stood frozen, his gaze vacant as he watched their figures gradually disappear into the distance. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
It took an unknown amount of time before he looked away, lowering his attention back to his phone, pausing on a Weibo page.
The lie detector in the photo was still the same familiar sight.
Looking at the words accompanying the photo, a mist seemed to cloud Jiang Yisheng’s eyes.
He feared he might never set foot in the K organization.
...
The dusk had faded, and a crescent moon had climbed atop the treetops, the castle fully lit.
Jiang Yisheng returned with his body still bearing wounds, much to the delight of the old madam Jiang.
With endless concerns and warm inquiries, Jiang Yisheng found himself both touched and amused.
"Grandma, I’m truly okay now, no worries," he reassured once more.
The old madam Jiang patted his shoulder, her eyes nearly watering, "It’s good that you’re alright. Now that you’re back, don’t leave so soon."
Jiang Yisheng nodded, his gaze falling on the little one in Veya’s arms, his eyes lighting up.
He moved over, his eyes lingering on Xiaobai’s chubby, rosy face, "Mom, can I hold him?"
Indeed the child of the cousin and Jiuliang, even more charming and lively than in the photos.
Veya agreed, carefully placing Xiaobai into his arms.
"Take it slow, hold him like this," the old madam Jiang guided, helping adjust his hold.
"Xiaobai, Xiaobai," Jiang Yisheng gazed at the soft and cute little face, his smile filling with warmth.
With a full belly, Xiaobai was full of energy, staring at Jiang Yisheng for a while before adorably puckering his bright red lips into a smile.
"Giggling..."
"Look, Xiaobai is happy to see you back," the old madam Jiang cooed, grasping Xiaobai’s tiny fist with a kind smile.
"Isn’t that right, Xiaobai?"
Jiang Yisheng pressed his lips into a smile, understanding why family members were reluctant to let go when holding the little one.
The little one was indeed incredibly endearing.
After a short playtime, Xiaobai became sleepy, and Jiang Yisheng volunteered to carry him back to the room.
Nearing the bedroom door, just as he was about to knock, the person inside opened it first.
