Chapter 835: Chapter 835: Apologies Will Have to Wait for the Next Life (2)

"Ahai, I just saw Asheng crying in the room. He never cries."

Since childhood, Asheng’s health has been poor. Getting injections and taking medicine were like daily routines, yet he never cried. Even when subjected to family punishment, nearly losing half his life, he didn’t shed a tear.

But just now, when she went to help pack his luggage, she stood at the door and saw him crying in the room.

However, she couldn’t do anything to help.

"I know." Jiang Hai gently patted her back, soothing her in a warm voice, "We’ll visit him on the island in a while, Veya. If I could, I wouldn’t choose such a cruel method, but we have no other choice right now."

"As long as Asheng is okay, let’s consider this as being selfish this time."

Veya sobbed softly, then nodded almost imperceptibly.

...

"Chu Chen doesn’t know the situation either. What’s so urgent at the headquarters that he has to rush me back now?"

As Ji Mingqian boarded the plane, he saw the message from Chu Chen and couldn’t stop talking about it.

Beside him, Ye Jiuliang listened to his chatter and rarely offered a word of comfort, "If Achen is urging you so much, there must be something urgent. Go back first, and come to us in a few days."

"The signal is so poor that I can’t get through the phone," Ji Mingqian frowned, his tone showing some displeasure.

"Contact him after the plane lands. Your dream is inaccurate; I spoke to the family before boarding, Asheng is staying well." Ye Jiuliang said.

Ji Mingqian glanced at her sideways, "Really?"

Ye Jiuliang leaned against Li Mochan’s shoulder, "Why would I lie to you?"

Saying this, she felt a tiny pang of guilt.

Ji Mingqian reluctantly withdrew his gaze, just about believing her.

The plane first landed in Country Y, and only after Ji Mingqian got off did Li Mochan and Ye Jiuliang return to Country M.

The night breeze grew colder, the drizzle was hazy, even dimming the lights slightly.

"Slow down."

Li Mochan held the umbrella with one hand, extending the other to Ye Jiuliang.

"The ground is slippery with rain, be careful not to slip."

Ye Jiuliang held his hand, carefully walking off the plane.

The baby is big now, carelessness is not an option.

"Young Master Mohan, Young Madam, why have you returned so suddenly?" Aunt Ju came out to greet them upon receiving word from the guards at the gate.

"Young Madam, the ground is slippery, walk slowly."

"It’s okay." Ye Jiuliang shook her head, a smile forming at her lips, "Have Grandma and the others gone back to rest?"

"Not yet." Aunt Ju sighed, "There have been quite a few things happening at home these past few days, and our calls to you went unanswered."

"The signal on the island is bad." Ye Jiuliang asked calmly, "What happened at home?"

"For some reason, the master used the family discipline on Yisheng, giving him a beating."

Ye Jiuliang feigned a look of surprise, "How is Asheng now?"

"He left shortly after waking up this morning," Aunt Ju said.

"He left?" Ye Jiuliang was taken aback, "Wasn’t he still injured? Why did he leave?"

Could it be that they were still a step too late?

Aunt Ju said, "I’m not sure either. The madam said it was the master’s insistence to send Young Master Yisheng away, but Young Master Yisheng said it was his own idea, that he wanted to rest on the island for a while."

Ye Jiuliang frowned, it seemed things were more serious than expected.

She pressed on, "Which island did he go to?"

"It’s the little island the master and madam go to every year. The master bought that island for the madam when they got married." Aunt Ju watched the rain getting heavier and urgently said, "Young Master Mohan, you should come inside first."

Ye Jiuliang looked sideways, her eyes questioning as they met Li Mochan’s.

"Uncle asks questions, and you know nothing," Li Mochan whispered softly near her ear.

Ye Jiuliang nodded in understanding, handing the umbrella to a servant before they entered the living room.

Inside, the lights were bright, and the warm light added a touch of coziness.

"Grandma, Uncle, Aunt," the two greeted in unison.

"Xiaojiu, have you had dinner? Let Aju make something for you." Seeing them back, the old madam’s face softened a bit.

"Xiaojiu, come sit."

Ye Jiuliang walked over, a soft smile on her face.

"Grandma, no need to fuss. We’ve eaten."

"This time, don’t go running around. Travelling back and forth frequently is not good for you and the baby," the old madam said gently.

Ye Jiuliang smiled and agreed. This time she planned to stay in Country M until the baby was born, as she couldn’t keep flying back and forth like this now.

"Ahan, come with me." Jiang Hai suddenly stood up, speaking in a warm tone.

Li Mochan looked at him quietly, then handed his phone to Ye Jiuliang for her to hold.

"If you’re hungry, ask the kitchen to make something." He said.

Ye Jiuliang nodded, watching Li Mochan and Jiang Hai go upstairs.

"Xiaojiu, do you know what happened to Asheng..." the old madam asked urgently.

Before she could finish, Ye Jiuliang soothed her by patting her hand, "I know, Aunt Ju just mentioned it to us outside."

"Do you know what happened to Asheng, and why did Ahai use the family discipline on him?"

Ye Jiuliang shook her head, "I don’t know either."

"I asked Jiang Hai, but he refuses to say anything. The father and son are tight-lipped, it’s really worrying." the old madam said.

Ye Jiuliang looked at Veya, her expression showing signs of despondency, her weary face evoking sympathy, "Aunt, how is Asheng’s injury?"

Veya shook her head, her eyes slightly red, clearly having cried a lot today.

"I have some excellent Healing Medicine. I’ll pack them in a small medical kit, and you can have someone take it to Asheng," Ye Jiuliang said.

Veya’s voice inevitably turned hoarse as she spoke, "Xiaojiu, Asheng left something here for you. Come with me, I’ll get it for you."

Ye Jiuliang agreed, getting up to follow Veya upstairs.

In Jiang Yisheng’s room, Veya reached out to pull open a drawer, taking out an envelope and handing it to her.

The seal on the envelope was still intact, unopened.

Ye Jiuliang took it, opening the envelope to find a folded piece of paper inside.

Unfolding the paper, it was in Jiang Yisheng’s handwriting.

"Jiuliang, help me pass on a message: The promise of this life is my failure, consider me selfish. I don’t want to return the necklace; I’ll make amends in the next life."

Ye Jiuliang paused slightly, feeling his profound heartache between the lines as he wrote those words.

How could she bear to relay that message?

She slowly closed the paper, placing it back in the envelope.

Veya looked at the envelope, but didn’t show curiosity to read it.

At this point, what was written in the letter was no longer important to her.
