Chapter 700: 700, The Volatile Seasonal Emperor (26)

The moonlight, like water, imbued the night with a hazy glow.

The racing blue car sped along the road, brutally leaving a trail of sedans behind.

Ji Mingqian watched the neon lights flickering outside, feeling as though a heavy stone was pressing on his chest, making it difficult to breathe.

The cool night breeze entered through the window, and Ji Mingqian exhaled a breath of stale air, gradually regaining his composure.

Jiang Yisheng, once I find you, I’m going to give you a good beating.

Such a headache.

When Ji Mingqian arrived at the gallery, he got out of the car and saw the locked glass door. He patiently raised his hand and knocked.

"Thump, thump, thump—"

In the silence of the night, the sound of knocking seemed particularly loud.

It wasn’t long before it drew the attention of the people around.

Luckily, Ji Mingqian was wearing a mask and a hat; otherwise, the situation could have escalated within minutes.

Soon, someone from inside the gallery came to open the door—a security guard.

"Sir, may I help you?"

Ji Mingqian withdrew his hand, "I’m sorry, I’ve left something inside and would like to go in to look for it."

"I’m sorry, but we are already closed. Why don’t you come back tomorrow?" the guard said.

"The item is very important to me; I must go in and find it now." Ji Mingqian stepped forward, as if he was ready to force his way in if not allowed.

"Sorry, we are closed now, I really can’t let you in." The guard stood in the doorway, his tone slightly impatient.

Ji Mingqian frowned, turned around, took out his phone, and made a call, "Yiyi Gallery, have the manager open the door for me."

After hanging up the phone, Ji Mingqian turned back to the security guard, kicking pebbles on the ground with the tip of his shoe, his eyes glowing with a cold light.

The security guard felt uneasy under his gaze and hurriedly tried to close the door.

The next moment, the manager’s voice came from inside, "Wait a moment."

The guard’s hand on the door froze, and turning back, he saw his manager approaching quickly. He hurried to greet him.

"Manager."

"Of all people, you had to block him." The manager glared at the guard, speaking as if lamenting his lack of foresight.

If anything went wrong, the gallery could be shut down for good.

The guard scratched his head, looking innocent and confused.

The manager, with brisk steps, moved past him to the doorway.

Seeing the man at the door, the manager offered a sycophantic smile, "Mr. Ji, please come in."

Ji Mingqian raised an eyebrow, "Can I go in to look for my things now?"

"Of course, of course, you may now." The manager pushed the door open, gesturing for him to enter.

He glanced at the guard, who was still standing dazed to one side, and reminded him in a stern voice, "Turn on all the lights so Mr. Ji can look for his things."

"Yes, sure." Watching the manager bow and scrape to Ji Mingqian, the guard finally realized the man before him was not to be trifled with—one with significant backing, no doubt.

The guard scrambled to turn on the lights, and suddenly, the entire gallery was illuminated.

"Mr. Ji, what are you looking for? Shall I help you?" the manager asked with an ingratiating smile.

"A cell phone," Ji Mingqian said.

When he had traveled with Jiang Yisheng, he had broken his own phone. He’d then given him a replacement, a phone obtained from headquarters, equipped, like theirs, with a special chip for locating.

He hadn’t expected it to come in handy now.

The phone’s GPS only showed it was in this gallery, but its exact location was unknown.

"A cell phone?" the manager expressed surprise before asking, "Mr. Ji, have you spent time in any particular corner of the gallery today?"

Ji Mingqian, "..."

How would he know where Jiang Yisheng might have lingered.
