Chapter 148: 147. Enemy’s Move (2)

The move that I had been waiting for since the past two months was finally decided and it was the worst case scenario from all the possibilities.

The letter in my hand was the proof of it, it still irritated me that I couldn’t train them all enough. They were still weak and they still hesitated at times while attacking.

I only had a one week in my hands now, one week to make the kids realise just how horrifying death could be and how they would need to defeat it.

I stood up from my desk picking up the four envelopes which were meant for four kids before looking the tensed faces of Enora and Roan as they stood in front of me.

"The official letter is here, huh." Roan grumbled running his hand through his hair.

"I shall train them harder, Master." Enora said and I waved my hand in a dismissive manner before putting the envelopes into my coat’s inner pocket.

"It’s not the time for that anymore. I will have to do it myself. They need to fear death to fight against it with all they’ve got." I said.

I walked past them and stood at the window of my study.

"Let’s go, Enora." I said and she walked up to me.

"Can I come along? I’ve finished the pending work that you gave me." Roan spoke up before I could teleport and I gestured him to come.

We teleported to the forest near Eldarf and then walked the rest of the way, to where the kids were already training. Everyone gathered as soon as they saw me and I looked at the six kids who were standing shirtless with the sweat and dirt coating their muscled bodies.

"Eric," I spoke up making him stiffen.

"Rune, Luke, Ralph, Derrick and Drac." I listed the names making the other kids seemed a bit confused.

"Except for the names I just said, everyone else return to the manor. For the next one week, only these six will be training here all day, rest all will only step in when I tell you to. Do you all understand?"

The kids looked slightly perplexed but they all replied without any problem, "Yes, Master!"

I removed my coat and handed it to Kent who stood beside me.

"Then, go now." I said pointing back at the manor and the elves and dwarves along with the other adults left the training ground leaving only the six kids and me back.

The strong gust of wind whooshed past us making my clothes flap around and I uncuffed my shirt’s sleeves before folding them up to my elbows.

"Master, what’s going on?" Ralph asked breaking the silence between us.

"A fight," I answered, "Serious one."

The six didn’t seem fazed at that and I added, "This time you will fight seriously and I won’t only dodge or avoid your attacks. I will fight back with you seriously. So, come at me as if you’re fighting a real enemy," I said as I walked towards the weapons stand.

I picked up a short sword before turning to look at the kids as I added.

"And, if I find you holding back then, don’t tell me I didn’t warn you."

I felt them shivering as I got into a fighting stance making them all look at each other before they also got into their fighting stance holding their weapons up. freeweɓnovel.cøm

Eric and Rune were the first to attack me followed by the other four, I dodged their first attacks before slashing at Ralph’s sword making him jerk back as I swung my foot kicking Eric in the stomach making him fly away.

The rest gasped as they saw their friend flying away but I didn’t give them time to get distracted as I punched Derrick in the gut and swung my foot nearly unhinging Rune’s jaw before I slashed my sword at Luke who stumbled back at the impact of the force behind my attack and then I moved towards Drac who was the only one paying attention.

The match ended in only a couple of minutes with the six either lying on the ground or kneeling as they cradled their injured body parts.

"Form a team of two and attack me " I instructed.

Eric and Rune looked at each other before they got to their feet, Luke stood up and walked up to Drac while Ralph and Derrick became the third team.

As per my instructions, they attacked me again and after a couple of minutes, they were on the ground again.

"Again." I commanded.

I gave the kids a small break in the afternoon before continuing with the special training until it was evening and they were completely battered and bruised.

I looked at them before I turned and saw Kent, Lyall, Enora and Roan who stood at the doorway while the kids were looking from the windows.

"Bring them inside," I commanded as I walked back towards the manor.

They kept holding back and it was starting to irritate me, I guess keeping their situation a secret from them wasn’t helping.

The next day, the six kids were in the drawing room in front of me, their faces and arms had multiple bruises and they looked exhausted.

"Your progress isn’t satisfying at all." I said.

"P-Pardon my rudeness," Derrick started, "But, I don’t understand why we’re being trained so intensely."

"I-I agree. It’s not like we’re going on a battlefield." Ralph said.

"I believe that you never do anything without a reason, Master," Luke said.

"So, if you’re doing this then there is a serious reason behind it, right?"

I sighed as I placed the envelopes on the table.

"These are from your households, Drac, Luke, Ralph and Derrick."

The four stepped ahead before picking up the envelope and opened their letters.

Except for Drac, the other three gasped loudly making Rune and Eric look at them.

"What is it?" Rune asked.

"H-How... No, wait, why?!" Ralph gasped.

Derrick’s faces had darkened while Luke seemed extremely tensed.

I stood up from the chair and plucked the letter from Drac’s hand before handing it to Rune making Eric lean closer to him to look at the contents of the letter.

Their faces turned dark as well as the read the Imperial order that came straight from the Queen. The noble families of all the kingdom had received the Imperial Order from the Queen that the war was escalating and it was time for them to lend their support. So, the nobles had to fulfill their duty and head to the battlefield with their armies to fight for the kingdom.

The Queen had dragged all the other nobles into this because she wanted to get rid of Eric along with Rune and his friends. Her target was clear, she was still scared about not finding the evidence hidden by Douglas and she must be suspecting that these kids had that evidence.

"Congratulations, you all are really going to the battlefield for war." I announced making the six kids stare at me.

"B-But, how?! The war isn’t even at that serious stage!"

"Why are we being sent off so suddenly?!"

"Is this what she planned after seeing that I and Rune have manifested our powers?" Eric asked.

"That and she also wants to exact her revenge on what you did to Douglas. She’s been going crazy after losing her ally and also because she thinks you might have her weakness in your hand." I said.

"We leave for the battlefield next week." Drac stated completely unfazed at the news of being sent off to a war.

"How can you be so relaxed about it?" Ralph asked Drac who gave him a blank look.

"Because, he’s already been on battlefields, he nearly died at my hands so, that reaction is normal for him." I said making the five boys stare at Drac with wide eyes.

Drac looked at me before asking, "What are your orders, Master?"

I looked once at him and then at the other kids.

"What about you all?" I asked.

"I don’t think we have a choice here," Ralph sighed.

"We’re still weak." Derrick muttered.

"Training harder is our only option if we want to survive, I guess." Luke said placing the letter down.

"So, six days of intense training until we drop." Eric announced.

"Five days," I corrected.

"Pardon? But, there are six days left, Master." Rune said and I shook my head.

"On sixth day, you will be back home with your families." I said.

"In these five days, not only with me but you will train with the other kids and your instructors. I know we don’t have time but I will do all I can to make sure you grow stronger." I said before looking at their faces.

"If you have any objections, tell me now." I said making them stand in a line with their backs straight.

"No objections, Master."

I almost chuckled watching them standing like soldiers ready for their commands.

"Get to the training ground, you will spar with the kids today." I ordered.

"Yes, Master!" The spoke in unison and I smiled before adding.

"Ah, and yes, try not to get killed. Those kids are ruthless when it comes to spars."

"Yes, Master!"

I chuckled as I gestured them to go and from that point their intense training started.

While their training was going on I was covering all the other bases, Grandfather seemed wary about sending Rune and Eeic to the battlefield but I stopped him from confronting the Queen about it.

This war was inevitable at some point, and while the kids would be on the battlefield I would have to play my own part to make sure that my plans would be succesful.
