The King of Urban Mercenaries-Chapter 1453 - 1457: Threat
"Damn, this is an awesome feeling, it’s practically like a human cellphone!" Lin Fei said, noting how much more convenient it was than a phone, since phones can run out of battery, but a person doesn’t.
As the three of them walked down the road, Lin Fei told Jian Xing a lot about the lower world. Jian Xing informed Lin Fei that the upper world and the lower world are not connected, but people from the lower world can come to the upper world and share things about their realm, which piqued the curiosity of those in the upper world who wanted to visit the lower world.
However, people from the upper world are forbidden from coming to the lower world, and according to some, once they arrive, their powers will be limited by rule power.
"I feel like I’ve lost all my strength, clearly restricted by rule power," Jian Xing remarked.
Hearing Jian Xing’s words, Lin Fei felt utterly embarrassed. After all, Lin Fei was considered a rather skilled ancient martial artist, yet he still felt no match against Jian Xing. If they were to fight, Lin Fei felt powerless.
But Jian Xing said that his strength was still suppressed. Lin Fei found it hard to imagine how strong Jian Xing would be if he weren’t restrained!
From what Lin Fei learned, Dugu Aotian was much stronger than Jian Xing. Lin Fei was speechless, realizing this hurdle was difficult to overcome, at least hard for him to imagine.
The group chatted while walking, arriving at the place where Lin Fei originally left. The three descended into the cave and reached the final stone house, where Bai Nuoshen indeed was.
"Brother Lin, who are these folks?" Bai Nuoshen looked toward Jian Xing and Immortal Wei Huo. He recognized Immortal Wei Huo but not Jian Xing. Judging from Jian Xing’s aura, he seemed incredibly powerful.
"This is my elder brother, and this person needs no introduction; he’s Immortal Wei Huo, one of the Three Immortals," Lin Fei said.
"Of course, I know Immortal Wei Huo from Yellow Mountain, but this one..." Bai Nuoshen looked at Jian Xing quizzically, evidently eager to know Jian Xing’s true identity.
Lin Fei purposely didn’t let Bai Nuoshen know, wanting desperately to keep him in the dark, especially since Jian Xing’s identity was sensitive. Revealing the identity of someone from the upper world would definitely have repercussions for those in the lower world.
"He’s just my friend. By the way, have you prepared the information I requested?" Lin Fei abruptly changed the subject.
"What information? Brother Lin, you’ve never mentioned any information," Bai Nuoshen replied.
"Really? Did I truly not mention it?" Lin Fei pondered aloud and continued, "I need the details on the mission your people took on—the one involving the assassination attempt on my wife. Who is this person? I need information on them."
Bai Nuoshen laughed and said, "Brother Lin, we’re friends, but as a friend, I don’t appreciate you making such a joke."
Lin Fei chuckled, "Do you think I’m joking with you? Coming all the way here just to joke around?"
As he heard Lin Fei’s words, Bai Nuoshen’s expression turned cold, and he sneered, "Lin Fei, no matter what, we’re considered partners. You should know our rules; assassins are prohibited from disclosing their employer’s identity, so you should abandon this thought!"
Lin Fei laughed, "Hahahaha! Bai, you know we’re partners. Since we’re partners, I’m your ally. If someone targets your ally, yet you still keep it secret, do you think that’s appropriate? Do you truly regard me as your partner?"
Lin Fei’s words were incredibly assertive, preventing any rebuttal from Bai Nuoshen, making him quite uneasy.
"Bai, you need to reconsider. In our partnership, you benefit greatly, and there’s one crucial point: you really can’t give me the information I need today?"
Upon hearing Lin Fei’s words, Bai Nuoshen instantly felt threatened. Lin Fei’s words were indeed a threat. Lin Fei personally came to threaten Bai Nuoshen. Bai Nuoshen understood this on an intuitive level, although neither broke the silence about it.
"Hehe, Lin Fei’s right. We are partners, so I should give you the information." Bai Nuoshen ultimately decided. He knew he had no choice but to comply today. He had considered falling out with Lin Fei, yet before tearing the mask of friendship, Lin Fei had brought so many powerful figures, any of whom could suffice to overwhelm them.
Lin Fei smiled, acknowledging Bai Nuoshen’s sense of timing. Otherwise, he would have forced Bai Nuoshen to hand over the information, given its importance; after all, he didn’t want his family to be threatened.
Although threatening Bai Nuoshen was still dangerous, since they were technically partners, Bai Nuoshen, with his wit, likely wouldn’t do anything foolish.
Soon, Bai Nuoshen obtained the information, turning to Lin Fei and saying, "These records are strictly managed, and by doing this, I’ve technically broken the rules. The elders backing me may put me in a tough spot. Lin Fei, I’ve taken a risk for your sake, so don’t let me down." Bai Nuoshen laughed as he spoke.
Lin Fei nodded, commenting, "I understand that point, but I also hope you’re being truthful. So, tell me, who really wants to harm my family?"
Upon hearing Lin Fei’s question, Bai Nuoshen looked at him before finally speaking, "The Pang Family. It was Pang Ke from the Pang Family who contacted our staff and wrote the commission note."
When Lin Fei heard that it was someone from the Pang Family targeting Mu Shanshan, he immediately believed it. After all, Mu Shanshan’s influence had already impacted their family’s benefits, and there can’t be two top tigers; the economy of Mo Country was largely in the hands of the Pang Family. Lin Fei understood that the Pang Family was the most eager to remove Mu Shanshan.
"Understood, thank you, Bai. I hope our future cooperation will be more pleasant."
"I think so too," Bai Nuoshen nodded and replied.
"Now that my matter is settled, I’ll take my leave and won’t disturb you further," Lin Fei said.
"Then I won’t see you out. Safe travels, Brother Wang," Bai Nuoshen responded.
Lin Fei smiled, turned around, and left for New City.
Since he’d obtained the information, Lin Fei saw no reason to waste more time here, especially since he was concerned about Mu Shanshan at home. When he left, he had Immortal Wei Huo protecting her, yet upon discovering a change, Wei Huo had to rush over quickly, so now Mu Shanshan had no protection.
Flying through the sky, Lin Fei and his companions soon returned to New City. When they saw that Mu Shanshan was unharmed, Lin Fei breathed a sigh of relief.
