Chapter 431: Chapter 326: Sudden Change of Plans

We returned to the stone building where the Cowboy Hat was, and according to Qinghan’s calculations, it took us roughly the same time to get back to the stone house.

Upon returning, both the Cowboy Hat and Doctor Du were there, and everything was fine, except Little Red was missing.

I asked where Little Red went, and Doctor Du said she went to the bathroom and hadn’t returned.

Doctor Du wanted to search for her, but Mike didn’t let her go too far; she only looked around the stone building, but there was no sign of her, alive or dead.

Huang Zaijiang mentioned that before Little Red went to the bathroom, she seemed to have seen something. Yet when Huang asked her about it, she claimed it was nothing, and soon after, she said she needed the bathroom.

Mike thought she was always suspicious, so he didn’t let Doctor Du venture out too far, fearing she had accomplices and planned to attack us one by one when we were dispersed.

Mike always felt uneasy about Little Red, thinking her appearance was too peculiar. Frankly, his suspicion was not without reason because, in such a setting, no ’human’ could possibly survive.

Huang Zaijiang said Little Red saw something, then used it as an excuse to disappear. Others might not know, but I do; the only thing that could capture Little Red’s interest is the patient who escaped from the Amber Ward. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Its purpose in entering the city with us was singular: to ’apprehend’ the patient and return them to the ward.

I told it to keep its identity a secret, so it wouldn’t reveal its true whereabouts to Doctor Du and the others.

A robot acting alone in the Ancient City shouldn’t fear being anesthetized or bitten by bugs; only if a mechanic dismantles it could it face any ’life’ risk.

Or it might have run out of power itself...

Doctor Du consulted Qinghan for his opinion on whether to send people further afield to search.

Qinghan looked at me, aware that Little Red wasn’t human and knew what her goal was.

He looked at me, probably wanting me to start fabricating some nonsense...?

"The closer we get to the city center, the more dangerous it becomes. We don’t have many people, so I don’t think it’s worth the risk." At the moment, I couldn’t think of a reason for Little Red’s disappearance other than to assert an opinion.

"She’s very suspicious, maybe with accomplices in the city; we better not act rashly." Mike immediately sided with me.

His doubts about Little Red lingered. Huang Zaijiang rubbed his injured arm; although Doctor Du gave him a painkiller shot, his arm was still inconvenient, and the Cowboy Hat was not trustworthy, so it wasn’t advisable for us to split up now.

The patient Little Red sought had once attacked Mike. Remembering this, I casually asked, "What did it see? Did you see anything?"

Mike shook his head: "She and Mr. Huang were by the window, checking these windows’ sturdiness."

This implied he wasn’t with Little Red and didn’t see what she saw.

Since something was discovered while checking the windows and used as an excuse to get out of the stone building, whatever Little Red saw must be outside the window.

I walked over to the window Mike indicated, stood before it, and looked out, changing angles to find possible traces.

Huang Zaijiang came over, pointing out the direction Little Red was looking at the time, which featured a small path leading straight to the glowing area in the city center.

"Have you looked that way?" I turned to Doctor Du, wanting to know whether she had been on that path while out searching.

"No, the way ahead is blocked by anesthetic seaweed, so I couldn’t go further." Doctor Du came over as well, pointing to the path’s front, which was blocked by a nearby building.

The path was very close to the stone building; I guessed that Cowboy Hat’s seaweed paste probably came from there.

"Little Red is immune to anesthetics, so she can get through." Doctor Du added.

If Little Red had really taken that path, then it’s not just her that’s immune to anesthetics, but also that special patient.

"Got any weed killer left?" I asked Doctor Du.

"None." Doctor Du gently shook her head.

True, we had to bring too many things out, the backpack’s space filled with essentials. The ’air freshener’ bottles weren’t small, bringing two would mean less water or one less food bag.

"Are you going to look for her? Didn’t you just say..."

"Oh, no, it might have been hallucinating, influenced to run out, and once the hallucination passes, it’ll return."

"Then why not directly tell us what she saw?" Mike obviously didn’t believe my words.

"Ah, everyone has secrets they don’t want others to know, or maybe it wasn’t sure itself and needed to verify before explaining."

"Do you really think so? That’s too naive. I bet at night she will bring accomplices to attack us." Mike drew his paratrooper knife and began to polish it.
