Chapter 388: Chapter 307: Subway Train

At least the Amber Men we saw had already stopped breathing. If we were to take them out of the amber, we don’t know if they could come back to life.

After walking for another five minutes, we reached the end of the corridor, and another door blocked our path. This one also couldn’t be pushed open, so Qinghan took action and sliced the door lock open with his treasure sword.

Interestingly, the lock on this door was secured from the inside.

This meant that the two armored individuals trapped themselves in the corridor, locking both ends to prevent anyone from inside the ’morgue’ from getting out, or anyone from outside from getting in.

They might have actually died trapped in the corridor, but while bodies decay and swords rust, the door lock was well-preserved, seemingly carved from some extremely hard stone.

The stone door swung open, and outside was a ’road’ with two parallel tracks laid down.

It was impossible for people to slide on these tracks; whatever used them had to be a wheeled vehicle.

Qinghan walked along the tracks to one side. He soon found a stone slab with writing that none of us could understand, but below the writing was an arrow pointing to the door we had just come through.

Though languages might not be universal, simple symbols like an arrow under a line of text were likely to be a sign or a marker of some kind.

Mike, after seeing this, thought for a moment and said, "Look here, these are tracks, and this is a sign. I think it must be a station marker, indicating people can get off at this stop."

This time, his imagination was quite vivid. Qinghan still remained noncommittal, while he walked back and forth on the tracks, even squatting down to stroke the track with his fingertips.

"The wear on the tracks isn’t severe. This place had just been put into use before the incident occurred."

"Maybe it was a new station, launched not long before."

While the two of them examined the tracks, I casually wandered nearby, not straying far.

That’s when I noticed a shadow on the wall. All three of us had headlamps, but only one person’s light was enough, so both Qinghan and mine were turned off.

Mike’s headlamp was shining on the tracks, casting a dim glow on the surrounding areas. On the wall with the sign, I saw a shadow standing there.

I instinctively looked across from the shadow, thinking it was cast from a person across, but there was nothing over there; Mike and Qinghan were crouched on the track, while the shadow had a standing shape.

Thus, the shadow wasn’t theirs. Just as I was about to call them over to see, the shadow vanished.

It didn’t disappear immediately; it faded quickly, then completely dissolved away.

I went over to touch the wall, wondering if it was some dust or markings on it. The wall indeed was dusty, layered thickly, but no human-shaped marks were there.

"What are you doing?" Qinghan noticed my actions and looked up to ask.

"Ah? Just now..." I turned my head to look at him. Before I could finish my sentence, I spotted the shadow on the wall behind them.

This time, the shadow was on the opposite wall by the track, still in a standing pose, whereas Qinghan and Mike were crouched.

"Look!" I immediately pointed to the shadow, saying nothing more.

They swiftly turned their heads, but once again the shadow faded before they saw it. By the time they turned, the wall was blank.

"What? Is there something?" Mike asked.

"There was a shadow, it was here, then it moved over there just now." I pointed to where the shadow had appeared.

"Only a shadow." I added.

Mike looked at me with some hesitation, then glanced at Qinghan and said, "Maybe she’s also having hallucinations."

"Sigh..." I sighed softly, having just managed to build his confidence up, now it was faltering again.

"It shouldn’t be." Qinghan still trusted me a lot. Even those strange transparent boxes didn’t affect me, so ordinary forces shouldn’t either. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

Hallucinations weren’t something I ever experienced, but trying to explain that to Mike would be difficult. Discussing my constitution could open up a can of worms.

Perhaps Mike also realized and began wavering in confidence, so he dropped the subject and said no more.

The underground space was eerily silent, dust everywhere, giving no indication of human activity.

Qinghan rose and went to the location I mentioned, examining the ground but finding no footprints.
