Chapter 335: Chapter 278: I Am the Captain (3)

There are also such experts in Chen Qinghan’s team, only their fate is unknown, and they have to prepare for the worst.

Everyone rested for a night, and set off the next morning, driving back and forth to the coordinates. When we reached outside the capital of Nilo Country, the greenery gradually faded and finally disappeared completely, leaving only a sea of yellow.

There were no tall buildings or bustling traffic; driving on the desert highway felt like heaven and earth had expanded, making people and cars resemble ants. The ’little ants’ slowly headed into the depths of the desert.

Fortunately, the place we were headed wasn’t a military zone or an important city but just a desolate desert.

Driving in such a place, I completely lost my sense of direction. Even with a map in hand, I couldn’t distinguish east from west, north from south.

We set out in the early morning and didn’t reach the coordinate point until the sun had set in the afternoon.

There were several mountains there that were gradually being sandified. We found Chen Qinghan’s off-road vehicle behind one of the mountains.

The spare equipment was still on the car, covered with a yellow camouflage cloth, clearly indicating that no one had returned. After they went down together, no one came back.

The car was parked at the foot of the mountain, and we decided to search in all directions using the car as the center.

The coordinates indicated a city, and finding an entrance or a door in a city, no matter how small, takes time.

In the scorching heat of the day and the chilly cold of the night, we searched the desert until the middle of the night. Finally, Lilith fell into a sand pit, and before we knew it, she was gone with just an exclamation.

She had been standing halfway up the mountain, and the beam of her flashlight flickered before disappearing along with her.

Teammates dispersed around the area immediately ran toward the slope when they heard the noise. We weren’t too far apart, maintaining a distance where we could still see each other and communicate by sound.

With Lilith in trouble, we quickly reached the spot where she had fallen. It was a vertical ground hole, not man-made, seemingly natural.

The skilled Liang Ruidong tied a rope around his waist, put on a headlamp, and slid down the hole.

There was no collapse below at the moment, and Lilith’s cries for help faintly reached us. It seemed her communicator had broken, so she could only shout.

After Liang Ruidong went down, it wasn’t long before he reported through the communicator that there was an opening underground, like a breach on the wall of some structure.

We then sent down Qian Yu, who knew about architecture. After assessing it, he confirmed that it was a pyramid—not very large—hollowed out from the mountain and constructed internally, somewhat similar to the mountain tombs of Huaxia.

Chen Qinghan’s vehicle was parked at the foot of another mountain adjacent to ours, resembling the shape of a camel’s hump.

Thus, we couldn’t rule out the possibility that this was the pyramid we were looking for.

I reported our findings to the captain, and Chen Qinghan’s team had found an entrance at the foot of a mountain, a proper tomb gate.

But when we arrived, we found no such entrance. Though there were photos, honestly, all the mountains here looked similar, and there were several mountains within the coordinates.

We searched every mountain but couldn’t find an entrance as distinct as the one in the photos.

For the sake of discretion, Chen Qinghan’s team would undoubtedly camouflage the entrance after going in to deceive passing drivers and tourists. From afar, nothing could be seen, but up close, a flaw should be discernible.

Yet, we found no flaw. I had been in the department a short time, but the others were experienced and familiar with the camouflage set up by our colleagues.

There are two potential reasons for our failure: either our coordinates differ from those received by Chen Qinghan’s team, leading us to appear at two different locations, hence the discrepancy.

But this possibility is slim. Coordinates are fixed, and the captain had the ones reported by Chen Qinghan. Unless Chen Qinghan deliberately stated them wrong, which is unlikely since his team included nine people with a designated task group, and they even discussed the coordinates upon arrival.

The second reason is that this ancient tomb, like my Tomb Prison, can restore itself to its original state.

No matter how you excavate it by day, it automatically regenerates by night.

But this idea is only a suspicion, and discussing it would entail mentioning my Tomb Prison. I don’t know how Chen Qinghan reported Snow Mountain Tomb’s exploration details to the superiors. If my account mismatches his report, we’d both face trouble. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

Now with a self-formed ground hole on the slope, I suspect even more that this tomb shares similarities with Snow Mountain Tomb. Perhaps if we go inside, it will slowly restore itself, and apart from the car left at the mountain’s base, nothing would prove our presence here.

"Shall I go in and check first?" Liang Ruidong asked for my opinion.

"Be careful." At this moment, the hole contained three people—Liang Ruidong, Lilith, and Qian Yu. Qian Yu was a gentle scholar, and Lilith was not one to take a ’warrior’ route, so the task of leading fell to Liang Ruidong.
