The Informal Tomb Raiding Diary: She is the occupant of the tomb!-Chapter 295 - 265: Refusing to Give Up (Part 2)
"Hmph, do you think I’m a three-year-old? She’s the resurrected tomb master!" The female office worker looked at Zhaosi and said.
"Look at the mural before jumping to conclusions. The tomb master is male, she’s female. Want some gender-changing artifact? Go try in Korea; the ancient technology... wasn’t that advanced, quite crude actually."
"Stop the nonsense, hand over the artifact and we’ll naturally verify its authenticity."
"You might as well rummage through a private collector’s treasure trove. Find the tomb master’s mummy, and the truth will be clear. Why resort to violence? That bug of yours is precious, right? Maybe rethink considering the costs?"
"What exactly are you?"
"She is one of the Five Heavenly Girls, we’re a group." Zhaosi proudly said.
I saw the female office worker was about to ask what the Five Heavenly Girls were, so I quickly interrupted, "Enough chatter, tell her the name of the private collector."
"Allen Howard." Zhaosi compliantly said a name.
"Go check out their place, and you’ll know the truth."
"Buried in Western Yutian, middleland jade merchant Gou Fugui, died at 28, with six toes on the left foot." Zhaosi rattled off a string of information; the burial site and identity must have been made up by her.
The female office worker stared at the two of us for a few seconds; we weren’t lying, and we met her gaze candidly.
Since there were kids present today, it was best to solve things through negotiation rather than fighting.
I’ve already figured out what kind of people the female office worker and her group are. If they could get the artifact by killing us all, they wouldn’t hesitate for a second.
But Zhaosi made the female office worker hit a wall. She knew that if they kept fighting, her bugs would be wiped out. Bullets couldn’t penetrate the black smoke; Zhaosi’s abilities were clearly above theirs.
Zhaosi might not have intended to let them leave either, which is why she didn’t explain anything and played along as I tried to mediate.
"Until we get solid information, we’ll stay here." The female office worker’s decision wasn’t that unreasonable. She instructed her subordinates to keep an eye on us while she went out alone to contact and investigate the tomb master’s whereabouts.
If she was reallocating personnel from Huaxia, it would definitely take time. She might hire local professionals, either to confirm in person or stealthily check.
"You can use the internet. Put the gas tank back." Zhaosi disdainfully waved her hand, shooing me back to the kitchen.
I returned the gas tank to its original spot, feeling puzzled. Although the gunfire outside had been silenced, it was unlikely it couldn’t be heard just one wall away. Wen Jing went to release a bug, so why hadn’t there been any commotion?
The masked man and Zhaosi were still glaring at each other in the dining room. I went into the inner room to find Wen Jing, only to discover him sleeping next to the coffin.
A big white bug poked its head out of the coffin, its small beady eyes fixed on me, and its ears perked up, seemingly a bit frightened.
"What did you do to him?" I approached Wen Jing, didn’t see any external injuries on him. His pulse was steady and strong; he was simply asleep.
"Waa~" The big white bug let out a cry similar to a baby’s wail.
"Alright, nothing for you to worry about."
I surveyed the surroundings, patted Wen Jing’s shoulder to wake him up. The inner room was slightly smaller than the dining room; it should have contained the tomb master’s favorite items or something very important from their lifetime.
But besides the coffin placed against the wall, there wasn’t a single ancient relic in the room. The bed was a folding bed; the wardrobe and desk were modern styles. Zhaosi said she stole the internet from a scenic area office. These days, internet fees are all monthly plans, and since no one was at the office at night, it went undetected for so long.
A hundred meters underground, you need a signal emitter to receive a wireless signal. She really went to great lengths to get internet access.
On the wall in front of the desk, a blackboard hung with "Plan" written in the center. Below that, only the character ’Five’ started a list, but nothing specific was written.
Zhaosi said she wanted to ’form a team,’ and maybe she was serious, but I still didn’t plan to join them. Forming alliances isn’t that easy. Thinking about it brings a bunch of troubles, which is also why I had refused to choose sides in the past.
Wen Jing woke up, glanced at the coffin, then at me, puzzled: "That’s weird, why did I fall asleep?"
"That thing did it. Luckily, it didn’t release any toxic gas. Come on, we have guests outside."
Wen Jing looked at the big white bug inside the coffin. It curled up on a grass cushion, the ears on top of its head twitching. I couldn’t hear its ’thoughts,’ but judging by its behavior, it seemed to understand our words. It probably had high intelligence.
"It?" Wen Jing scratched his head, looking puzzled.
However, since the big white bug hadn’t attacked him brutally, we didn’t need to worry too much about it. The uninvited guests outside were the real threat to our lives.
