The Informal Tomb Raiding Diary: She is the occupant of the tomb!-Chapter 200 - 201: Approaching SCI...
I reached out and touched it, and it felt like touching a smooth stone, nothing special.
Qinghan went to the workspace on the rock wall to check the computer. There was no power outage below, nor any accident; the computer and the files on the desk were neatly arranged, showing that when the staff left, everything seemed normal.
I put down my backpack and climbed the beehive with my bare hands, lying on top to look inside.
I had imagined there would be monsters, treasures, or meteors inside, but I never expected there would be a coffin.
In a massive spherical space that could hold an aircraft carrier, there hung a golden coffin.
The faint golden light emitted by the beehive was the glow released by that coffin.
On the lid of the golden coffin, there was a pattern made of rubies, a circle atop a Y shape; the other parts were entirely cloud reliefs.
I withdrew my gaze, rubbed my hands together, and glanced again at Qinghan, who was attentively reading the files.
This thing here, if we take it out, selling it for a billion wouldn’t be a problem. This is the high seas, and it’s an ownerless deserted island; whoever gets the treasure, it belongs to them.
I silently pulled out a dagger, just about to jab it into a hexagonal gap when Qinghan suddenly coughed, scaring me into quickly retracting the knife and looking at him guiltily.
"If a knife could pry it open, they’d have opened it already," Qinghan said casually.
"I was just trying it out." I laughed awkwardly twice, slid down the beehive to the edge area to inspect.
Discovered a ground hole, or rather a deep pit, right next to the beehive, much like a sewer well.
At the bottom of the pit was a towel and some footprints, indicating that someone had been down there.
Regarding the excavation work of the beehive, this ground hole was useless, so it’s unlikely that workers dug it for fun.
"They found a stone casket in that hole," Qinghan spoke like a documentary narrator, always at the right moment.
Qinghan flipped open a notebook that seemed to be a work journal; it was possibly written in a foreign language. After reading the content, he would pause before translating to me in Chinese.
From the recorded content, it indeed was a work diary, documenting daily work activities.
The notebook belonged to someone named Jarod Wis, who was responsible for the data monitoring work of the beehive.
Before the storm hit, two workers discovered a ground hole next to the beehive, and one of them tied a rope to climb down and brought up a stone casket from below.
The stone casket had a pattern carved on it identical to the relief on the golden coffin, so they determined that this casket was directly related to the golden coffin.
The worker then handed the casket to Jarod Wis, who immediately opened it to see what was inside.
Then he saw that the casket contained two small horns, one gold and one silver. According to his description, the small golden and silver horns were only the size of a joss stick burner, about three centimeters high, with a base diameter of one centimeter.
Out of curiosity, he took out the gold one to look at it more closely, but the golden horn suddenly melted into liquid and seeped into his skin.
The work diary ended here. He lastly wrote that he was going to the hospital for a check-up to ensure that the golden liquid was harmless to him.
This Jarod is definitely the first person infected by the virus; Qinghan found his work ID from the desk drawer. The person in the photo, I recognized, was the Golden Horned King.
"To know how the virus spreads, we’d have to make a trip to the hospital." Qinghan squinted his eyes at the giant beehive. No one could tell him where Xiaonuan was, and when Shield came to dig the mountain, she might still be on the island; maybe there had been contact between them.
The best guess is that ’Shield’ took away Chen Xiaonuan. That way she still has a sliver of hope, because from my observation, time on this island does not stand still. Her survival chance taken away by Shield would be higher than wandering alone on the deserted island.
Qinghan wanted to investigate the virus, probably to confirm its transmission route. If it’s transmitted through skin contact and not air, then we can safely let the leaders come over.
Because the information he needed was scattered in several places, just the two of us searching was way too slow.
The woman had already mutated; I asked Qinghan what to do, as we couldn’t take her along everywhere; should we take care of her first before going to the hospital?
Qinghan thought about it and told me to stay and watch her while he went to the hospital alone.
The Golden and Silver Horns were placed in the casket with the golden coffin pattern; it must be related to the golden coffin. Perhaps Qinghan thought she still had research value, so he wanted to keep her for now.
After Qinghan left, I used the dagger to try and pry open the hexagon on the beehive again, but unfortunately, I couldn’t pry it open.
I then snuck over to the Silver Horned King’s side. I didn’t dare touch her horn with my hand but instead found a steel rod and poked at the horn on top of her head.
"Ah—" The sudden angry scream startled me a bit.
Like the Golden Horned King, she howled at me fiercely!
"Why are you yelling? Let me tell you, I love bullying little animals, and after bullying them, I stew them in a pot."
As soon as I finished speaking, a sigh suddenly came from beside my ear, but the creature that sighed wasn’t the Silver Horned King. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"Who is it?" I tightened my grip on the steel rod and turned to look around, "Stop acting mysterious; I’m a firm believer in materialism, I never miss an episode of science shows!"
However, all around was silent. I immediately analyzed the sound from a scientific perspective: the wind blowing into the passage from above, funneling into the pit, producing an unusual airflow sound, sounding like a human sigh.
"ioc..." This time the ’wind’ carried syllables, forming a slightly familiar word to me!
"Hey, who are you?" This sound couldn’t have been made by the wind; it was clearly a human voice.
My question seemed to trigger something, causing the entire pit to start shaking. I quickly held onto the wheel of a loader behind me.
The beehive in front of me was moving; those tightly interwoven hexagons suddenly contracted; they shrank inward, eventually reducing to the size of a bowling ball.
The beehive, now the size of a bowling ball, steadily fell onto the golden coffin, perfectly fitting into the round pattern on the coffin lid.
Yet the golden coffin didn’t drop to the bottom of the pit due to the beehive shrinking; it remained suspended in mid-air. After the shrunken beehive fit into the round groove of the coffin lid, the ruby, which I thought was a decoration, emitted a blinding red light.
Immediately afterward, the coffin lid made a ’click’ sound. At this moment, I wished I had Black Donkey Hoof, Black Dog Blood in my backpack, or even some of Lord Qi’s glutinous rice flour. No matter what jumps out of the coffin, throwing a handful of glutinous rice flour to blind it would be a start.
For a reason that I can’t quite explain, I just didn’t want to see what was inside the coffin.
But it didn’t change according to my will; completely ignoring my feelings, the moment the coffin lid opened, something burst out of it and darted toward me. I instinctively raised my hand but forgot I was holding a steel rod, so my palm wasn’t open.
Poof—
The expected impact didn’t occur; before hitting me, that thing dissipated, but not a single feather on it was wasted, and they all stuck to me.
"Who is it? Shedding feathers even at death?"
