The Informal Tomb Raiding Diary: She is the occupant of the tomb!-Chapter 170: Pinkeye and Skin Disease
With a heart full of conflict, I quickly walked into the cockpit; I had to come and see because Bi Shi was also not someone who could be easily trusted.
The floppy-eared cat’s body wasn’t large; how could its heart be so big? Almost the size of their head.
This must be Bi Shi’s doing, but we have several living people here. If she didn’t extract the heart of the floppy-eared cat, there’s no other heart for her to dig up.
I walked into the cockpit; Bi Shi was sitting beside the only chair, carefully examining the music box.
The mummy’s hands were re-covering the groove of the armrest; I lifted the collar of the mummy’s robe and saw a large hole in its chest, where a bright red heart was beating powerfully.
Those wire-like things have already connected to this heart; how long can a heart keep beating?
The mummy lay underground on the island for countless years; the hole in its chest wasn’t dug by the Beauty Snake, so even earlier, it must have been like this.
Who knows how many hearts have been installed in this hole; the heart with no power that the Beauty Snake spoke of surely wasn’t the original.
It’s just that the secret chamber beneath the palace hasn’t been discovered by the Beauty Snake, likely unopened for a long time. Before Old Shi opened it, who can know how many years that heart bounced underground? It’s certain that the time wasn’t short.
A normal human and animal heart absolutely cannot last that long; lasting a few days is already good enough, and over time it would turn dry.
Thinking of this, I suddenly realized, the Beauty Snake said she replaced the original powerless heart with a living human heart, but where did the powerless heart go?
There’s no trash bin in the cockpit, nowhere on the whole ship, and the windows are sealed. At that time, the ship was mid-voyage; she couldn’t throw the old one out of the window.
"Where did you get the heart?" I suspiciously stared at Bi Shi.
"Hehe..." Bi Shi chuckled twice and continued to look at her music box.
"It’s not the floppy-eared cat’s heart." I stated directly.
"You know and still ask." Bi Shi didn’t give me a glance; there seemed to be patterns or designs on that music box because the material was white, and the engraved lines weren’t colored, so unless viewed up close, it couldn’t be seen what was carved.
From my position, I could only see that there were patterns on it; Bi Shi’s eyeballs were almost stuck to it, clearly attracted by the patterns.
"Just say it, where did the heart come from." I still wanted to check on Qinghan and the others’ situation, and I had no patience to make small talk here with her.
"Picked it up in a corner of the fish catch room; I had just slaughtered a Cafe Rabbit and found a heart in the corner of the wall. Once picked up, the blood on my hand got absorbed by it. I found it seemed revitalized after absorbing the blood, so I fed it more."
"Oh?" Skeptical, I entered the fish catch room; indeed, on either side of the fish pond were rows of table-like structures, with many blind spots.
"The six Cafe Rabbits you captured have all been fed to it; let’s see if it can manage."
For now, the heart seemed to beat very strongly; if the input of fresh blood could revive it, what sort of creature could be the owner of this heart?
"Hey, how’s it going on your end? Are those two people still alive?" Bi Shi withdrew her eyes from the music box and gave me a gossiping look.
"Alive, but not quite normal; one seems to have conjunctivitis, and the other has something like a skin disease."
"Hiss... definitely not normal, and not dying on the spot?"
"What do you mean?"
"I’m going to check." Bi Shi placed the music box under the seat, as though afraid someone might steal it. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
Listening to Bi Shi’s tone, does she anticipate Chen Qinghan and Cong Zhibo would die? Why did she suggest this bad idea, to hasten their departure?
Bi Shi stood by the head of their beds, looking at the patients, then at me, her gaze switching back and forth between us.
"It’s not my fault they changed color; they ate the Immortal Pill to become like this." I hinted to Bi Shi in a sneaky way, hoping she wouldn’t let slip.
"I understand this; what about that?" Bi Shi first pointed at Cong Zhibo, then at Qinghan.
I shrugged; both weren’t normal, and I didn’t feel Chen Qinghan and Cong Zhibo had any distinction.
Bi Shi glanced at the leader and Guan Hai, signaling for me to follow her out.
Back in the cockpit, she closed the door, sidling up to me like a thief and whispered, "That Professor Chen is not normal."
"Yeah, he’s got conjunctivitis." I immediately replied.
"NO, it’s not about conjunctivitis."
"He was just hanging from the ceiling, refusing to come down."
"Do you want to piss me off? Don’t you know our blood can’t mix with outsiders? It’s poisonous to them. Look at that boy named Cong, his symptoms are the normal reaction."
"Not having conjunctivitis, but the skin disease is normal?"
Bi Shi suddenly swung a hand chop at me without warning; I lifted my arm to block it and instinctively punched back.
The silent fight ended with two mutual punches; Bi Shi was furious with a skewed mouth and eye, but she was helpless since I had amnesia.
After the fight ended, she took a deep breath, patiently explained to me, saying that our blood is poisonous to ordinary people. Yet, because we don’t bleed unless voluntarily, even with the worst wounds, other creatures rarely come into contact with our blood.
I recalled once having a total body fracture; indeed, there were no surface wounds nor bleeding.
Normally, blades, guns, and sticks wouldn’t leave wounds on me. But this time, to save Chen Qinghan and Cong Zhibo, I used a dagger to cut my finger; that tiny dagger could actually wound me. If Bi Shi hadn’t told me, I wouldn’t have realized this.
"The boy named Cong was poisoned by the original one and collapsed again due to your blood’s toxins; temporarily safe from life danger but expecting him to recover to his original state, I think hope is slim."
"Vegetative state?"
"Pretty much."
Therefore, Bi Shi thought Qinghan’s symptoms were too mild, not typical?
When I asked this question, Bi Shi nodded decisively, saying it was correct.
I gave more blood to Cong Zhibo than to Chen Qinghan, supposedly Chen Qinghan should be more heavily poisoned.
According to Bi Shi, Cong Zhibo’s skin discoloration indicates the toxins have spread throughout his body, while Chen Qinghan only has altered eye color, which is quite limited in range.
"It varies by person; maybe he has a strong constitution." I couldn’t give a proper explanation, whereas how could Bi Shi know all this?
"Confess honestly, have you secretly conducted human experiments?" I turned serious, fixing my gaze on Bi Shi’s eyes and asked.
"I have; those Tomb Robbers sneaking into my tomb, aren’t they just ready-made test subjects?"
"Why are you testing this?"
"None of your business!"
Our conversation stalled again; the rest of the journey mostly passed in silence, with Bi Shi reminding me to pay attention to Chen Qinghan, feeling there’s something off.
The leader and Guan Hai looked after the sleeping patients; Bi Shi studied her music box in the cockpit; bored, I wandered the corridor in the ship’s cabin.
Then I heard that tiny footsteps again, almost as if following behind me...
