Chapter 128: Chapter 128- really pregnant!

After being embraced by Charles, Janet slept very soundly. It was Charles who woke her up in the early morning. "Are you very tired? How about you skip work today?"

Charles was already dressed, his fingertips gently caressing Janet’s smooth cheek, making her feel very comfortable.

Janet rubbed her tired forehead, about to refuse, but suddenly remembered that she had to go to the hospital today. If she went to the company with him, she wouldn’t find an excuse to slip away. So she obediently nodded, "Then I’ll go around noon."

"Then sleep a little longer. When you wake up, ask Fiona to make you breakfast!" Charles was a punctual man. He kissed her cheek and then got up to leave for Black Rock Co.

Janet inhaled the lingering scent of him and soon fell asleep again. When she woke up, it was already nine o’clock. She quickly washed up, brushed her teeth, ate breakfast, and went to the hospital.

Along the way, her heart was extremely nervous. What if it wasn’t true? The hope she held would turn to nothing, and she would be deeply disappointed.

After registering, Janet sat outside the obstetrics department, looking at the appointment slip she had crumpled in her hand. All the women coming here for ultrasounds were pregnant, radiating happiness, and Janet felt envious.

She placed one hand on her lower abdomen. If there really was a little life inside, this time, she vowed to protect the baby she and Charles would have.

Meanwhile, Charles was staring intently at the report Giles had investigated about the fire’s truth. His dark eyes were filled with a silent but overwhelming rage. He slammed the report face down on his desk, his gaze exuding a terrifying chill. He would show no mercy to those people!

"Giles?" Charles pressed the speakerphone button. After a while, Giles respectfully entered the office.

"Yes, Boss!" Giles knew why he was called. Before Charles spoke, he began to explain carefully, "Louis Corporation’s shares have been falling continuously. After withdrawing from ZT Group, it’s almost paralyzed. Harold has been keeping everything well hidden, but now things are in chaos!"

"That’s not enough. I want you to buy the shares from the other shareholders. I want a full acquisition of Louis Corporation!" Charles’s voice was cold and emotionless. If before he might have spared them, after learning what Anila did to Janet and her mother, that thought no longer existed!

"Yes, I understand!" Giles nodded and immediately turned to leave. At this moment, Novia’s call came through, "Boss, President Pei has arrived!"

"Good. Notify August. I’ll be there soon!" Charles hung up, stood up, and prepared to discuss the cooperation details with Simon. If this collaboration succeeded, he might consider a long-term partnership with the Pei family. He admired Simon’s character, at least much more than Manfred, who didn’t please him at all.

"Next, Janet!" When Janet heard the nurse call her name, her heart jumped. She quickly stood up from the chair and walked toward the ultrasound room. Lying on the cold examination bed, feeling the machine moving over her lower abdomen, she felt a fine sweat break out in her palm.

"Congratulations, you are five weeks pregnant. You have mild anemia, which can greatly affect the fetus in early pregnancy. You also had a previous miscarriage, so your body is fragile. You need to rest more during this period," the doctor’s words left Janet completely stunned.

She walked out of the hospital in a daze, still immersed in the joy from the news.

Pregnant? She was really pregnant!

Calculating the time, it must have been that day in the small Hawaiian town. The thought that there was a little life inside her made her heart sweet and eager to tell Charles.

He loved children so much. Now that he finally became a father, just imagining his reaction swept away all the gloom in her heart.

Janet hailed a taxi and headed straight to Black Rock Co.

She wanted to surprise him. Surely, he would be stunned!

Janet entered Black Rock Co. and took the elevator. When she reached the eighty-eighth floor, she didn’t notice the quiet hallway except for some sounds coming from the conference room.

"Charles!" Janet pushed open the boss’s office door but didn’t find the expected figure. She looked around but didn’t see him. Walking behind his desk, she opened the rest area door—he wasn’t there either.

Just now, she hadn’t noticed anyone in the conference room. Janet rolled her eyes, trying to guess where he might have gone, then took out her phone to call him. She suddenly realized his black phone was lying on the desk.

Feeling a bit disappointed, Janet put down her phone and picked up Charles’s black phone. Accidentally, she also lifted some documents he had left on the desk. A gust of wind from the half-open blinds scattered the papers all over the floor.

Janet whimpered, put down his phone, and knelt to pick up the fallen papers. Suddenly, her eyes were drawn to the photos on the papers.

There were childhood photos of her and Cornelia. Reading the attached notes behind them, her eyes widened in terror, and her trembling hands gripped the papers tightly.

How could this be?

She refused to believe what she saw was true. But the photos of Anila whispering with a stranger and slipping money to him, along with evidence of that man committing arson, all struck Janet’s eyes relentlessly.

She had never imagined that the fire ten years ago was caused by Anila bribing people to deliberately burn them, mother and daughter!

"How could this happen? How could it be like this? Mom..." Janet stared at Cornelia’s smiling face in her hands. Big tears rolled down her cheeks. The body that was just squatting collapsed onto the carpet. The joy of pregnancy from a moment ago was replaced by deep despair.

It felt like falling from heaven straight into hell, leaving her battered and broken.

Charles just walked into the office and saw Janet sitting on the floor, her pale face streaked with tears, and her eyes empty of their usual light. His heart tightened. When he saw what she was holding, he immediately understood.

"Janet?" Charles anxiously took the papers from her hands. How could he have been so careless to let her find those things? He hadn’t expected Janet to come to his office at this moment.

"Why didn’t you tell me?" Janet dodged his hand and stood up from the floor.
