The Husband I Loved for Eight Years Never Loved Me-Chapter 84: To Seduce Tristan Sterling?
Chapter 84: Trying to Seduce Tristan Sterling?
Below that were two more photos.
One was taken when the driver Sylvia Shannon had arranged picked her up, with the license plate blurred out.
The other showed her getting out of Julian Jennings’ car last night.
Paired with a vivid little write-up, she was painted as a woman who slept her way to the top.
The forum allowed anonymous posts.
The comments below were even more vile.
The post was extremely popular, with a constant flood of new comments.
There was another post, this one claiming she was trying to seduce Tristan Sterling.
She frowned and clicked on it.
There were no photos, just a long-winded post. It claimed that during her interview with Tristan Sterling, her eyes and body language were "restless." It also mentioned Tristan Sterling’s daughter, saying Rachel had deliberately gotten close to the girl with the goal of seducing her father. The claims were so specific, it sounded as if the author had witnessed it all firsthand.
So that was it. She finally understood the strange atmosphere today.
Just then,
her phone began to vibrate.
Rachel Royce picked it up. It was Thomas Sterling calling.
"Rachel," he said, his voice laced with concern and urgency.
Rachel Royce asked, "You saw the posts too?"
"Yeah. I’ll help you find out who made the anonymous posts. This bunch of scumbags. I’d like to see what kind of trash they really are."
Thomas Sterling was absolutely furious.
Rachel Royce didn’t refuse. "Okay, please help me look into it."
"Alright."
She hung up the phone.
Ian Quinn strode in from outside. "Rachel, I’ve already had someone start deleting the posts."
But Rachel Royce said, "Don’t delete them. Deleting them will just make me look guilty. Let them talk. I want to see just who is behind these slanderous posts."
Joanna Sutton was fuming. "If I find out who it is, I’ll beat them to a pulp! They’re just a bunch of garbage who only know how to hide in the shadows and spread malicious rumors."
’Places driven by greed were always breeding grounds for monsters, and slander born of jealousy was an everyday occurrence.’
’But for the posts to get this much attention, someone was clearly targeting her, trying to make her life a living hell.’
She glanced again at the post accusing her of seducing Tristan Sterling.
Pretty much everyone in their circle knew by now that Tristan Sterling had a daughter.
But very few people knew that she had been in contact with Melissa. She could only think of one person who had a reason to frame her.
Ian Quinn seemed to realize this too and asked, "Have you seen your daughter recently?"
Rachel Royce nodded. "We’ve met three times. And I ran into Claire Ainsworth twice."
Once when I went to interview Tristan Sterling, once when I had dinner with Melissa, and once yesterday. Claire Ainsworth was there for the first two times, but not yesterday.
Joanna Sutton’s expression changed instantly. "This definitely has something to do with Claire Ainsworth," she said with certainty.
"She can’t hold on to her own man, so she resorts to these filthy tricks."
Rachel Royce’s eyes turned cold. "It seems I need to go have a nice chat with this Miss Ainsworth."
Joanna Sutton said, "I’ll go with you."
Ian Quinn said, "You’d better not go. Don’t cause any more trouble for Rachel."
Joanna Sutton snorted. "What trouble would I cause? Can’t I just be one more person there to slap her?"
Ian Quinn chuckled. "Haven’t you learned your lesson? She has Tristan Sterling protecting her now."
As he spoke, he couldn’t help but glance at Rachel Royce. Seeing her indifferent and unbothered expression, he breathed a sigh of relief.
Joanna Sutton scoffed, "So what if he’s protecting her? I don’t think Claire Ainsworth is all that capable. It’s been five years, and she still hasn’t gotten Tristan Sterling to marry her."
「Half an hour later.」
Julian Jennings also rushed back to the company.
Thomas Sterling had already found information on the person who made the posts.
The person’s name was Ethan Chapman, and he worked for Vanguard. That said it all.
Rowan quickly released a statement with very strong wording. It directly named the person behind the slanderous posts, stated that they had obtained information on the culprit, and announced they would prosecute every defamatory comment made against Rachel Royce. The results, it added, would be published throughout the industry.
The organizers of the Financial Summit followed up with a statement of their own.
As for the doctored photo, a technically restored version was included in the organizers’ post.
Soon, many people began deleting their slanderous comments, and the highly popular post was taken down.
’They hadn’t even really done anything yet, and already the poster was scared enough to delete the thread. They were nothing but a bunch of cowardly trolls who were all talk online, but in real life, were probably just ants too scared to even breathe too loudly.’
Although the matter was handled quickly, the impact on Rachel Royce was unavoidable.
Joanna Sutton tried to comfort her, but Rachel Royce was taking it in stride. "You’re not born to please everyone. Other people’s opinions can’t shake me. I will keep moving forward, while they’ll forever be nothing but rats hiding in the dark, unable to face the light. Why should I care about the opinions of a bunch of rats?"
Hearing Rachel Royce’s words, Joanna Sutton gave her a thumbs-up and grinned. "What a great philosopher! When are you going to start teaching classes? I’ll be the first to sign up."
Rachel Royce smiled. "Alright. That’ll be a twenty-thousand-dollar registration fee, paid in advance."
"..."
「That day.」
Rachel Royce left work early.
She went straight to Hawthorne Manor. This high-end villa district was less than four kilometers from the Silvermist Bay Villa District.
Suzanne Sullivan and Claire Ainsworth lived here.
Julian Jennings had been the one to tell her. He had a friend who lived here, and he had happened to run into them once when visiting.
Rachel Royce stood before the villa’s front gate and rang the doorbell.
A housekeeper quickly came to ask who she was.
"Is Miss Ainsworth home?" Rachel Royce asked directly.
The housekeeper looked Rachel Royce up and down, her expression a mixture of stunned surprise and caution. This woman looked somewhat similar to their own young miss, but her aura was completely different. The housekeeper immediately became wary; many women had shown up at their door before in pursuit of Suzanne Sullivan.
But she was asking for Claire Ainsworth, which could just be an excuse.
"What business do you have with our young miss?"
Rachel Royce said, "Go tell her that I’m here to see her about something important."
The housekeeper was taken aback by Rachel Royce’s sudden imposing presence.
Just as she was about to say something, a Bugatti slowly pulled up to the gate. Rachel Royce turned and saw Suzanne Sullivan sitting inside the car.
Suzanne Sullivan saw Rachel Royce but didn’t seem surprised. She said to the housekeeper, "Let Miss Evelynn come inside and have a seat."
The housekeeper acknowledged the instruction.
She then invited Rachel Royce inside.
Suzanne Sullivan drove the car into the underground garage.
Rachel Royce sat in the living room.
The housekeeper brought her a glass of juice.
Claire Ainsworth wasn’t home.
The housekeeper said that Claire Ainsworth had left for another city this morning and wasn’t sure when she would be back.
’Looks like she went on a business trip with Tristan Sterling.’ 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
Rachel Royce sneered inwardly.
’Tristan Sterling really is the same as ever when it comes to her.’
The thought that her daughter might be with them made her feel extremely uncomfortable.
Just then,
Suzanne Sullivan stepped out of the elevator. She looked at Rachel Royce, then walked over and sat down across from her.
She spoke. "Julian told me that Miss Evelynn had something to discuss with Claire. She’s not home, but you can talk to me."
