The Husband I Loved for Eight Years Never Loved Me-Chapter 43: First Time Taking Her for a Prenatal Checkup
Chapter 43: Her First Prenatal Check-up with Him
Tristan Sterling stepped forward, patted him on the shoulder, and said, "When you get married and start a family, you’ll definitely be a better husband than I am."
After speaking, the man pulled his hand back and turned to walk toward the private room.
Thomas Sterling stood rooted to the spot, watching his retreating back.
When lunchtime arrived, Rachel Royce finally saw Tristan Sterling.
The large family sat in the dining room for lunch.
During lunch, Madam Sterling told Tristan Sterling to take Rachel Royce to the hospital for a full check-up first thing tomorrow morning. She was nearing her due date, and everything needed to be ready.
Tristan Sterling didn’t refuse Madam Sterling’s instructions, simply agreeing, "I know."
Rachel was surprised, but a part of her wished he would refuse.
At this point, she no longer knew how to face Tristan Sterling and didn’t want to be alone with him.
But she was in no position to object.
She spent the day at the old family residence with Thomas Sterling. They played some video games and walked around the courtyard.
There was a large lawn in the backyard.
The weather was lovely in the afternoon; the winter sun felt pleasantly warm.
Thomas Sterling brought over a soccer ball to kick around with Rachel.
Rachel rolled her eyes. "What is wrong with you?"
Thomas gently kicked the ball to her feet, smiling. "Kick it back."
Rachel looked down but couldn’t even see the ball at her feet.
Watching her, Thomas couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
Rachel glared at him, fighting the urge to kick the ball right in his face. Instead, she just kicked it back to him.
Meanwhile, on the third floor, a handsome, well-built man stood before the French windows of a bedroom that overlooked the lawn, watching the two people below kick the ball back and forth.
Rachel’s cumbersome body made it difficult for her to move, and she missed the ball several times. Thomas laughed at her mercilessly.
Furious and frustrated, Rachel didn’t want to play anymore and turned to leave.
Thomas quickly ran after her, trying to coax her back with a pleading look on his face. He even started showing off some fancy soccer tricks for her.
「Later that evening, after dinner.」
Rachel got into Tristan Sterling’s car.
During her conversation with Madam Sterling earlier that day, she had been told to stay at the villa and wait for the birth. The matriarch said she would arrange for a private doctor and nurse to stay there as well, allowing them to monitor Rachel’s condition around the clock.
Rachel had called Florence Preston and asked her to come and stay.
Her mother and father had just held their wedding banquet and hadn’t even had time to enjoy their life as a couple, yet now her mother had to accompany Rachel while she waited to give birth. Rachel felt a little guilty about it.
The ride back to the villa was silent. Neither of them spoke a word.
Rachel wanted to ask about the divorce. Judging from the attitudes of Madam Sterling and Sylvia Shannon, Tristan hadn’t told them he planned to divorce her yet.
But after a moment’s thought, Rachel decided against it. ’After all,’ she reasoned, ’Tristan is surely more eager for a divorce than I am. I can’t be bothered to ask. I have nothing left to say to him anyway.’
By the time they returned to Silvermist Bay, Florence Preston was already at the villa.
She watched them return one after the other. When Tristan Sterling walked in first, Florence didn’t greet him as she might have before, merely giving him a cool glance.
After the man changed his shoes and went upstairs, Rachel slowly walked in through the door.
Florence came forward, placed Rachel’s slippers down for her, and helped her to the bedroom. "The hot water is ready. Go take a bath first."
"Okay."
Back in the room, Rachel handed her mother the bag she was carrying. "This is a wedding gift for you and Dad from Madam Sterling."
Madam Sterling had asked her a few questions earlier, and Rachel could tell she was still displeased about her behavior yesterday. Rachel understood the source of their anger. It wasn’t about them attending the wedding; it was about her failing to observe the proper etiquette.
When Sylvia Shannon had reprimanded her, Madam Sterling hadn’t said a word.
But perhaps for the sake of the unborn child, Madam Sterling had still prepared a gift and had Rachel bring it back. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
Florence Preston took the bag, looking uninterested. She had no intention of opening it, and a self-deprecating smile touched her lips. "Why would a humble family like ours be worth Madam Sterling’s trouble?"
Florence put the bag on the coffee table and helped Rachel go take her bath.
After Rachel had washed up and come out, the two of them sat on the sofa talking. Florence suddenly asked, "Rachel, have you ever thought about taking the baby and leaving?"
Tristan Sterling is so cold and heartless. Leaving the child with him is truly worrying.
Rachel stroked her belly and said helplessly, "It’s not that I haven’t thought about it. Tristan might not care, but the Sterling family cares a great deal about this child. I can’t take her with me."
In her current condition, she couldn’t go anywhere anyway.
Florence sneered, "If they cared, would they let Tristan treat you like this?"
She knew, of course, that her family didn’t have the means to fight for the child.
Rachel comforted Florence, "She’s the only girl in the Sterling family, after all. I think they will treat her very well."
Florence reached out to touch Rachel’s belly and sighed. "Let’s hope so."
「The next day.」
Tristan Sterling took Rachel to the hospital for her check-up, and Florence Preston accompanied them.
They arrived at the high-end private hospital under The Sterling Group.
The medical staff had been notified in advance. From 9 to 11 a.m. today, the obstetrics and gynecology department would not be accepting any other patients; the entire department was dedicated solely to serving Rachel.
The sheer scale of the arrangement made Florence marvel. ’As expected of the Sterling family.’
Tristan Sterling waited in the lounge.
This was the first time he had ever accompanied her to a hospital check-up. In the past, she had longed for him to take up his responsibilities as a husband, even if it was just for an hour or two like this. But now, Rachel’s heart was numb.
From yesterday until now, the two of them hadn’t exchanged a single word.
The check-up was over an hour later, and the results came out quickly.
Tristan Sterling took the medical report the doctor handed him and looked it over.
When he saw the ultrasound image, the baby was clearly visible. His eyes were fixed on the child in the picture.
The doctor stood to the side, reporting on her condition.
Because of the previous bleeding incident, her due date had moved up. Given the current situation, she could go into labor at any time, so they needed to be fully prepared. Fortunately, the baby’s condition was now stable, and the expectant mother was healthy.
After listening to the doctor, Tristan Sterling put down the report and said, "Then make all the necessary preparations."
"Yes, President Sterling. Rest assured, the hospital will make all the arrangements."
Tristan grunted in acknowledgment and said nothing more.
After her examination, Rachel was sitting on a bench in the hallway, eating the breakfast Florence had prepared for her early that morning. She had been carrying it with her all this time. Even before the check-up was over, Rachel had been starving.
The moment the check-up was finished, she couldn’t wait a second longer to eat.
Just then, Rachel’s phone vibrated.
She picked it up and saw it was a call from Tristan Sterling. She answered, "Hello!"
"Where are you?" The man’s voice was as indifferent as ever.
Rachel said, "In the hallway outside the ultrasound room, eating breakfast."
"Come over when you’re done."
With that, the man hung up.
After finishing breakfast, Florence helped Rachel to her feet.
The two of them arrived at the lounge.
They could hear Tristan Sterling on the phone.
