The Husband I Loved for Eight Years Never Loved Me-Chapter 127: She Leaves with Nothing
Chapter 127: She’s Leaving with Nothing
Tristan Sterling returned to the Sterling family estate.
"Daddy!"
Seeing her father, Melissa threw herself into his arms.
Tristan Sterling picked up his daughter.
He chatted for a while with Madam Sterling and Master Sterling.
With Melissa around, the atmosphere in the living room was especially warm and lively.
Tonight, Tristan Sterling stayed over with Melissa.
While the nanny was giving Melissa a bath,
Sylvia Shannon found her son and asked, "Why did you let that Evelynn take Melissa home today? What on earth are you thinking?"
Tristan Sterling said, "She’s Rachel Royce."
The moment he said it, Sylvia Shannon froze on the spot. She stood stunned for a long moment before it registered, and she asked in disbelief, "What? She’s... Rachel Royce?"
She simply couldn’t connect Evelynn with the woman from before.
"Then Melissa..."
Sylvia Shannon started to ask something, but then it occurred to her that Melissa probably didn’t know the woman was her mother. ’At least she has some self-awareness,’ she thought.
"Now that she’s back, Tristan, isn’t it time to handle your divorce?"
Tristan Sterling’s voice was devoid of emotion as he said, "Melissa has always wanted a mother."
Ever since meeting Evelynn, Melissa hadn’t mentioned her mother again.
Sylvia Shannon’s eyes darkened. "She cruelly abandoned her own daughter five years ago, and now she doesn’t even have the courage to acknowledge her. In my opinion, she has no right to be Melissa’s mother."
Tristan Sterling looked at his mother and warned her, "Don’t say things like that in front of Melissa."
Sylvia Shannon replied, "Of course, I know that."
She knew what her son was thinking. It wasn’t that he was actually defending Rachel Royce; he just didn’t want to upset Melissa.
"Claire’s mother has asked to meet with me tomorrow. She’s in Kingsland. You should know that."
Tristan Sterling said, "There’s no harm in meeting."
Melissa came out after her bath.
And with that, the conversation between mother and son came to an end.
Rachel Royce was busy with work for two days. Because she was working overtime, she temporarily stayed at her large apartment in the city.
June Jennings had already confirmed with her parents that she would be bringing Stella to Kingsland for school. The fall semester would start in a week.
For the past two nights, Melissa had upgraded from phone calls to video calls, and they would talk for at least half an hour each time.
On Wednesday morning, Rachel Royce took half a day off to go to Lawyer Walsh’s firm.
When she arrived, the other party and his assistant were already there. His name was Gabriel Gordon. He was forty-five years old and an internationally renowned Chinese divorce lawyer.
The two greeted each other and then walked toward the law firm together.
Lawyer Walsh was already waiting for them.
Once they were in the conference room, Lawyer Walsh and Gabriel Gordon had a detailed discussion.
Lawyer Walsh had the relevant evidence and materials from their five-year separation, proving that there was no longer any affection in the marriage.
As for his infidelity during the marriage, Rachel Royce didn’t actually have any direct evidence. After all, back then, she never thought Tristan Sterling would drag out their divorce.
Even if she had proof, Rachel had her reservations about using that claim.
The five years of separation without contact was proof enough.
As for the division of assets, Rachel Royce didn’t intend to take a single penny from him.
So she was leaving with nothing, not even seeking custody of their child. Her only demand was to legally dissolve her marital relationship with Tristan Sterling.
For any lawyer, this would be a remarkably simple divorce case.
This was especially true for a lawyer of Gabriel Gordon’s caliber, as he typically handled high-value divorce cases.
Of course, Gabriel Gordon advised Rachel Royce that she could claim a share of his assets.
Gabriel Gordon had already done his research on Tristan Sterling. His publicly known net worth was over a hundred billion.
This would absolutely qualify as a massive divorce case.
But Rachel Royce still refused. He had already given half of his net worth to Melissa, and that was enough.
Once assets were involved, the divorce proceedings would only drag on longer.
She just wanted a clean break from Tristan Sterling and didn’t want any further entanglements.
Seeing how resolute she was, Gabriel Gordon didn’t insist.
Gabriel Gordon took on her case and would re-submit the evidence. That day, Rachel Royce settled all her outstanding fees with Lawyer Walsh.
After their discussion, it was nearly noon, so Rachel Royce treated Gabriel Gordon to lunch.
The two chatted for a while longer.
The biggest obstacle at present was still the male party. In the country, to control the divorce rate, courts didn’t just consider one party’s reasons when hearing divorce cases.
Because Rachel Royce’s demands were so simple, he would renegotiate with the court to ensure a hearing within thirty days.
"Thank you, Lawyer Goodman. Let me toast to you."
After lunch, as the two of them left the restaurant, they happened to run into Franklin Fitzwilliam.
Upon seeing her, Franklin Fitzwilliam took the initiative to greet her, "Miss Evelynn."
Rachel Royce nodded in acknowledgment. "Mr. Fitzwilliam."
They exchanged a simple greeting and went their separate ways.
As Franklin Fitzwilliam and his companion walked into the restaurant, the person beside him remarked casually, "Franklin, that Miss Evelynn you know is quite a beauty. Whose wife is she, preparing to divorce and split the assets?"
Franklin Fitzwilliam was puzzled. "Why do you say that?"
"The man with her was Lawyer Goodman, who specializes in major divorce cases. The cases he takes on almost always involve asset divisions starting in the ten-figure range."
Hearing this, Franklin Fitzwilliam instantly understood.
As for his companion’s prying about whose wife she was, Franklin Fitzwilliam didn’t say much.
Tristan Sterling had just finished work. As Mark Chapman brought in his lunch, Tristan received a call from Franklin Fitzwilliam.
"What’s up?"
Franklin Fitzwilliam said, "Guess who I just ran into?"
Tristan Sterling took a sip of soup and asked without much interest, "Who?"
Franklin Fitzwilliam said, "Evelynn!"
Tristan Sterling was unconcerned. "And?"
Franklin Fitzwilliam said, "I happened to see her at lunch. She was with Gabriel Gordon."
Tristan Sterling said nothing.
He just listened as Franklin Fitzwilliam continued, "I hear this Gabriel Gordon is a lawyer who specializes in divorce cases. He’s really good, too—only takes on major cases worth ten figures or more, with a personal success rate of over ninety percent."
Tristan Sterling paused, then a cryptic smile played on his lips. "Is that so? You seem to know a lot about a divorce lawyer. Why, you got some ideas?"
Franklin Fitzwilliam retorted, "What are you talking about? My wife and I are perfectly happy together."
"Alright, enough with the lovey-dovey talk."
After hanging up the phone,
Tristan Sterling set down his soup spoon, his deep, dark eyes inscrutable, giving no hint of his thoughts.
