Chapter 115: I’ll Hit Her Every Time I See Her

Rachel Royce looked up.

She saw David and Tristan Sterling walk in.

Rachel Royce froze.

"Evelynn, you’re awake. Are you still feeling unwell anywhere? Should I call the doctor?"

Rachel Royce said, "No, that’s not necessary. I’m already feeling much better."

David walked over, bent down, and reached out his hand.

Before Rachel Royce could react, the man’s palm was already on her forehead.

"It seems you’re not as hot anymore. You haven’t had lunch yet. What would you like to eat? I’ll have someone bring it over."

Rachel Royce said to David, "There’s no need. I don’t want to eat right now. I’d like to be alone for a while. David, you guys should leave!"

David stood up straight, glanced back at Tristan Sterling, then said to Rachel Royce, "Tristan has something to say to you."

Rachel Royce didn’t look at the man. "I have nothing to say to him. David, take him out."

David looked at Tristan Sterling. "Tristan, maybe you should wait until Evelynn is feeling better."

Tristan Sterling’s gaze was fixed coldly on Rachel Royce as he said in a low voice, "David, you leave first."

Rachel Royce shot her head up to glare at Tristan Sterling, her voice rising. "Tristan Sterling, do you not understand what I’m saying?"

Seeing the sudden change in Rachel Royce’s expression, David quickly tried to soothe her. "Evelynn, calm down. I’ll take him out right now. You get some rest."

With that,

David walked up to Tristan Sterling and pushed at his arm. "Let’s go. Evelynn doesn’t want to talk to you right now, so don’t disturb her rest."

Tristan Sterling stood without moving, his eyes fixed on Rachel Royce.

David looked at him and said, "Let’s go, let’s go."

In the end, Tristan Sterling was pushed out by David.

Outside the room,

David closed the door and said to Tristan Sterling, "I don’t care what conflict your girlfriend has with Evelynn, but I won’t allow you to hurt Evelynn."

Tristan Sterling put one hand in his pocket and started walking away. "You haven’t even won her over yet."

"Whether I’ve won her over or not, I just want to see her happy. I don’t want to see her upset. I love watching Evelynn smile."

Tristan Sterling glanced at him and teased, "So devoted. I’m starting to wonder if your body’s been snatched."

David slung an arm over his shoulder, smiling. "Don’t worry, it hasn’t."

"Evelynn rejected me before, probably because she hadn’t divorced her husband yet. Once she’s officially divorced, I can try pursuing her again."

Just as he finished speaking,

Tristan Sterling stopped in his tracks.

David also stopped and saw Julian Jennings walking toward them from around the corner by the elevators.

"Mr. Jennings," David said. "Evelynn is awake."

Julian Jennings gave a nod and a hum of acknowledgment. Without saying much else to the two of them, he headed toward Rachel Royce’s room.

David stood where he was, turning to watch Julian Jennings’s retreating back. He sighed, "The competition is pretty fierce."

He pulled his gaze away.

Tristan Sterling had already started walking away.

David hurried to catch up.

Julian Jennings returned to Rachel Royce’s room. He saw her leaning against the headboard, gazing out the window. The bright sunlight fell on her pale face, seemingly coating it in a layer of light.

Hearing the sound,

Rachel Royce looked at Julian Jennings.

"You’re awake. Are you feeling unwell anywhere? Is your head still dizzy?"

Julian Jennings walked over and sat on the edge of the bed.

Rachel Royce gently shook her head. "I’m much better now."

’Just a little weak.’

"This really wasn’t a good time for you to bring me here."

Julian Jennings said, "No one expected you to get sick. Besides, the whole point was just to bring you out to relax."

A faint smile touched Rachel Royce’s lips. Her whole being exuded a pale, fragile beauty.

"I just ran into David and Tristan Sterling. What did he want to say to you?"

"He didn’t say anything. David took him away. But I’m guessing he was here to warn me again."

Julian Jennings said, "Don’t worry. I won’t let Claire Ainsworth and Tristan Sterling hurt you again over this."

Rachel Royce said weakly, apologetically, "I’ve caused you trouble again, Professor."

Julian Jennings said gently, "You’re not causing me trouble. I’m the one who failed as a boss to take care of my employee."

Rachel Royce couldn’t help but smile, pressing her lips together. "By the way, did Hector Ainsworth contact you?"

Julian Jennings hummed in agreement. "He did. He apologized on Claire Ainsworth’s behalf."

Rachel Royce was taken aback.

Julian Jennings explained, "He’s not so foolish as to demand an explanation from me for Claire Ainsworth’s sake."

Rachel Royce said sarcastically, "Suzanne Sullivan has probably already heard that his precious little sister has been wronged again. Who knows what he’ll do behind the scenes." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"I haven’t received a call from Suzanne Sullivan yet. He dotes on Claire Ainsworth, but he’s not an unreasonable man."

"Claire Ainsworth is used to being spoiled. No one dares to stand up to her. You’re probably the only one who’s ever put her in her place."

Rachel Royce said, "She’s just asking for a lesson. She has no manners. If her family didn’t teach her how to be a decent person, then I’ll just have to hit her every time I see her."

Julian Jennings smiled. "It’s best if you don’t see each other at all, then. You don’t want to get angry and harm your health."

Rachel Royce replied, "Things are already like this. There’s no point in avoiding it."

"..."

Julian Jennings had some food sent up.

They would be on the cruise ship for one more day, returning to land the morning after.

By evening, Rachel Royce was feeling much better.

That night, she got a video call from Melissa, who asked when she was coming back and said she wanted to see her over the weekend.

"Last time, Aunt Evelynn said you’d take me to your house to play. Can I come over to Aunt Evelynn’s house?"

Rachel Royce smiled and said, "Of course you can."

Melissa laughed happily, her sweet smile healing Rachel Royce’s heart.

Just then, an incoming video call appeared on her tablet. "Aunt Evelynn, hold on," Melissa said. "My dad’s trying to call me. I’m going to call him."

"Then go ahead and call your dad, Melissa. We can talk again tomorrow."

Melissa had already been chatting with Rachel Royce for a while, and she wanted to talk to her dad too. "Okay, then! Goodbye, Aunt Evelynn."

The video call had just ended.

When Melissa’s phone watch rang. She quickly answered it, exclaiming, "Dad!"

"What are you up to, Melissa?"

"I was just on a video call with Aunt Evelynn! Dad, I’m going to Aunt Evelynn’s house to play this weekend."

Tristan Sterling listened to Melissa’s words.

Usually, when he was away from home, Melissa would insist on video calling him every day.

These past two days, Melissa had put him in second place.

"We’ll talk about it when Dad gets back."

"Then when are you coming back, Dad?"

"I’ll be back in a couple of days."

"Okay, then! When you get back, you can help me pick out a gift."

"Why do you want to pick out a gift?"

"You have to bring a gift when you’re a guest at someone’s house. You should come with me, Dad! You and Aunt Evelynn haven’t seen each other in a long time."

Melissa was already acting as if her visit was a sure thing.

Rachel Royce looked at the time. ’The court date is the day after tomorrow,’ she thought. ’I’ll call Lawyer Walsh tomorrow to check on the situation.’

「The next day.」

Rachel Royce’s health had improved significantly. Aside from a slightly pale complexion, she felt fine.

Just as she finished getting ready and was about to call Lawyer Walsh, his call came through.

Rachel Royce said, "Lawyer Walsh."

Lawyer Walsh’s voice came over the line, "Miss Royce, I just received a notice from the court. They’re postponing the hearing."

Rachel Royce frowned. "Postponing the hearing? Did they say why?"

Lawyer Walsh replied, "The specifics aren’t clear yet. I’m about to head to the courthouse. I’ll call you back later, Miss Royce."

Rachel Royce said, "Okay."
