The Hero is Hunting me!-Chapter 93: Lies That Remain True
After reading the letter from the Seven Deadly Sins, Jinhoo did not waste a single second.
He headed straight to his bedroom.
The rain from the night before had stopped, but the sky outside his window was still gray, heavy with lingering clouds. The atmosphere felt dense—like the world itself was holding its breath.
Inside his room, Jinhoo opened a drawer and began taking out several small items.
"Hm... do I need a voice recorder?" he muttered quietly to himself, brows slightly furrowed.
’There’s no telling how strong Aeron and the others are... If something unexpected happens, evidence could become useful.’
He picked up a compact black recording device from his desk. It was slim enough to fit inside his inner jacket pocket without being noticeable. After testing it briefly, he slipped it into his suit jacket.
Prepared.
Or so he thought.
Just as he finished adjusting his cuffs—
His phone rang.
The sharp vibration cut through the silence of the room.
He glanced toward the desk where his phone rested.
"Who’s calling me at a time like this..."
He walked over and grabbed it.
The caller ID displayed a name he had personally saved.
Crazy Lady.
"...Why does it have to be her..."
He sighed, then answered.
"Uh... what is it, Miss Eun-bi?"
Eun-bi’s voice came through immediately.
"Hey, Jinhoo... can you come to the office right now? It’s urgent."
"No. You’re going to trap me again. I’m not falling for it this time."
"I swear this time I’m not trapping you. This is serious."
His eyes narrowed slightly.
"Hm? What do you mean?"
"Lightnova—more precisely, Han Ji-hye—came to my office. She’s investigating me. There are rumors that I’m allied with a villain. She’s suspicious... and she specifically asked to see you."
The moment he heard that name—
Jinhoo fell silent.
He pressed his fingers against his forehead, pushing his hair back as frustration crept into his expression.
Lightnova.
One of the most prominent heroes in the world.
After exhaling slowly, he spoke.
"...Fine. I’ll come."
"Good. Please hurry. I can’t keep answering her questions much longer."
The call ended.
Jinhoo slipped his phone into his pocket.
"Hah... what a hassle."
He removed his dark outer cloak and hung it neatly on the rack.
Instead, he picked up a red tie.
He fastened it carefully around his collar.
If he was going to face a top-ranked hero, he would do so as Yoo Jinhoo—the ordinary office worker.
Not Indigo Reign.
He adjusted his hair, intentionally leaving it slightly messy yet presentable. Casual but professional.
When he was finished—
His figure flickered.
And vanished.
*Eun-bi’s Office*
"So? When is he arriving?"
Ji-hye asked calmly, though suspicion lingered in her blue eyes.
"Please be patient and enjoy your tea. He’ll be here shortly," Eun-bi replied with a faint smile.
Ji-hye lifted the cup and took a slow sip.
Steam rose gently between them.
Silence stretched.
Then—
Knock knock.
"Come in," Eun-bi called.
The door opened.
Jinhoo stepped inside with a polite smile.
"Sorry. Am I late?"
"No, you’re right on time. Please, have a seat."
He took the middle chair between them.
Ji-hye’s gaze scanned him carefully.
"So, you’re Eun-bi’s personal assistant?"
"Of course, miss. I am."
"How did you arrive so quickly?"
The question struck unexpectedly.
Both Jinhoo and Eun-bi’s eyes widened slightly before returning to normal.
"Ah, nothing special. I live fairly close to here."
"Hm... I see."
But Ji-hye did not look convinced.
"I heard that ever since you became Miss Eun-bi’s assistant, her company recovered almost instantly. Is that true?"
"Yes. I happen to specialize in crisis management."
"Hm..." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"Is something bothering you, Miss Ji-hye?" Jinhoo asked with an innocent expression.
"I’ve heard rumors that your employer has colluded with a villain to revive her company."
Jinhoo laughed lightly.
"That’s ridiculous. How could an ordinary man like me possibly be a villain?"
"Is that so? Then... may I verify it?"
"Hm?"
’Ah... right. Lie detection technology exists in this world. How should I handle that?’
He thought calmly.
"Tentatively, Miss Ji-hye. Please, go ahead."
Ji-hye pulled a compact device from her bag.
She strapped it onto Jinhoo’s right wrist.
"This device will turn green if you tell the truth. Red if you lie."
Eun-bi felt a bead of cold sweat slide down her back.
’That device... I can slightly interfere with it using my power if necessary.’
Jinhoo observed it quietly.
’No... I don’t need to manipulate it directly. I’ve already figured out how it works. It reads mental intent. Whether I believe my words to be false.’
Ji-hye straightened.
"Let’s begin."
"Who are you?"
"I am Yoo Jinhoo. From South Korea. An orphan."
The device glowed green.
"Before working here, what was your occupation?"
"I was a former South Korean military soldier."
Green again.
"Did you ever kill someone while serving?"
The question lingered in the air.
Jinhoo paused briefly.
Sensitive.
But true.
"Yes. I did."
Green.
Eun-bi’s eyes widened slightly.
’He was military... and he killed someone... I don’t necessarily mind... but that’s something worth looking into.’
Ji-hye continued.
"Are you the reason this company returned to its former glory?"
"Yes."
Green.
Ji-hye frowned faintly.
Everything so far had been truthful.
"Last question... are you a villain?"
Jinhoo smiled faintly inside.
’Finally.’
"No. I’m just an ordinary human."
The device—
Turned green.
Ji-hye’s eyes widened subtly.
’How... everything is green...’
Inside his mind, Jinhoo remained composed.
’This device checks whether I believe I’m lying. To avoid detection, it’s simple. I just think about myself before entering this world. Before powers. Before Indigo. That version of me truly was just an ordinary human.’
"Very well... you’re telling the truth."
Ji-hye removed the device.
After a brief pause, she stood.
"Thank you for your cooperation, Miss Eun-bi. Mr. Yoo Jinhoo."
She grabbed her bag and walked out.
The door closed.
Silence.
Both Eun-bi and Jinhoo exhaled deeply.
"That was dangerous," Jinhoo said.
Eun-bi looked at him.
"How did you avoid it so perfectly?"
"Simple. I adjusted my perception."
"Hm..."
He stood up.
"Well then. My business here is done."
"Leaving already? At least stay and have tea with me."
"Sorry, Miss Eun-bi. I have many matters to attend to. You know I’m the most wanted villain in the world. I can’t stay idle."
She sighed softly.
"...Fine."
As he approached the door, he paused.
"How about your plan to control South Korea from behind the scenes?"
Eun-bi froze.
"How do you... Hah... never mind. There’s no point asking how you know. Of course my intentions haven’t changed."
He smiled faintly.
"I’ll return in the near future. And when I do, I’ll help you bring down the South Korean government. From the shadows—you’ll rule the country."
He opened the door.
And left.
After it closed—
Eun-bi leaned back in her chair.
A smile slowly spread across her face.
"Jinhoo... there’s no secret I can hide from you... You’re truly extraordinary... It only makes me want to have you for myself even more..."
