The Heiress's Return: From Zen to Zenith-Chapter 1403
Chapter 1403: 652 Truth_1 Chapter 1403: 652 Truth_1 A short while later, Aubree let go of her hesitation.
“If I asked someone to take you back to Pethkids right now, with the current medical technology, your lung disease could still be cured,” she told her.
Isabella stumbled over her words.
Aubree considered how it wasn’t the possibility of surviving for longer that threw her off balance, but the mention of Pethkids.
Isabella’s voice shook slightly, “A-are you from Pethkids?”
Aubree nodded.
“How is…
how is it doing now?” asked Isabella.
...
“It’s progressing well.
It’s the largest city in the South Region, with a thriving economy.
The people live in peace and prosperity,” responded Aubree.
Tears shimmered in Isabella’s eyes.
“That’s nice.
Too bad I can never go back,” she said softly.
Aubree sighed, turned, and moved to walk through the door.

She took a step but then retreated back.
She stood at the entrance; her shadow fell on the ground whilst she turned her back on the person in the room.
“Your name is Gabriella Linggo, right?
Your sister’s name is Lidya Linggo,” she stated.
Isabella, still immersed in her sadness, had to take a moment to comprehend Aubree’s words.
“What did you say?” she asked.
The young lady remained standing at the entrance with her back to Isabella; she said nothing more, seemingly giving her time to react.
The figure standing in the sunlight exuded a frosty serenity, like an ethereal being free from the dust of this world.
Isabella felt an odd sense of distance despite her being right in front of her.
Isabella suddenly lunged forward as if driven mad, falling at the young girl’s feet.
“What else do you know?
You’re from Pethkids, right?
My sister…
my sis-! ”
“Your sister didn’t die,” Aubree interjected.
Isabella sat stunned on the ground.
First, she cried, then she laughed.
Her face was filled with tears, a sight of sorrow and joy intermingled.
“She’s not dead…
she’s not dead…” she whimpered.
Finally, she couldn’t hold back her emotions and covered her face, sobbing.
Summer Anderson stood there, shocked.
Her grasp on the Chinese language wasn’t firm; she took a while to react to what they were saying.
Seeing Gabriella Linggo suddenly break down, she felt distraught and looked helplessly at Aubree.
Gabriella Linggo looked at the young lady standing at the entrance; she remained silent and didn’t leave.
To the people here, Aubree was somewhat of a saviour.
These simple villagers genuinely saw her as a divine being.
In that very moment, that young lady represented the only glimmer of hope in Gabriella Linggo’s life, surrounded by deathly silence.
Perhaps she was truly divine.
After all, how else could she correctly call out Gabriella’s name after just one meeting?
Especially considering that it had been so many years, Gabriella herself had nearly forgotten her own name.
“My name is Gabriella Linggo.
I am from Silard Village in Four Seasons Town, Pethkids.
I have a twin sister named Lidya Linggo.”
“Someone has been looking for you,” Aubree said flatly.
“It’s my sister, isn’t it?
I can’t believe she survived that night…”
“Your sister has been looking for you, and so has Mr.
Aria.”
Gabriella Linggo frowned, “Mr.
Aria.”
She suddenly covered her mouth, seemingly taken aback, “Mr.
Aria…
He’s returned to our home country?”
Aubree shook her head, “I’ll arrange for someone to take you back to Pethkids.”
This time, Gabriella didn’t refuse, “Thank you, Ms.
Aubree.”
Aubree didn’t question her past, about why she ended up stranded on this barren island, why she didn’t return to Pethkids when she could, or where the person she was supposed to protect was.
There were too many mysteries surrounding her.
Without further questions, Aubree led her back to her dwelling, offering her clean clothes and good food.
Inside the room, Aubree was sitting quietly under the solitary light, the book in her hand yet to move past a single page.
There was a knock at the door.
She looked up to find Nicholas Drake.
He entered, carrying a chessboard and smiling, “Will you play chess with me?”
The chessboard was homemade from a piece of wood and the pieces were polished stones, distinguished by black and granite.
“When I was very young, my mother enrolled me in a Go (Asian chess) course.
She hoped that I would learn the wisdom of the ancients through Go and become a calm strategist.
But I was just a child and found it boring.
I used to dread the days when I had Go classes.”
Nicholas Drake leisurely made his move and continued recounting his story.
“Later, my mother enrolled me in various art classes.
In the end, the only one I stuck with was Go.
Do you know why?”
“Because it gives you the thrill of victory,” Aubree quipped.
Nicholas Drake laughed, “You always understand me so well.
Ah, I lost again.
How many more years of practice will it take for me to catch up to you?”
“As you improve, so do I.”
“So what you’re saying is, I’ll never catch up with you in this lifetime?”
