Chapter 223: Chapter 223 Now the Real Show Begins

Cameron Brooks was mentally drowning in question marks. So... these two are just doing their own thing now?

His eyes drifted to Megan Shaw’s belly. "Wait... that kid isn’t Mr. Reid’s, right?"

He flashed back to when Megan came back from seeing Karl Freeman... and she was already pregnant. So, doesn’t that mean the baby belongs to Karl?

And Tristan Reid – dude legit got cheated on, swallowed that bitter pill for pride, and pretended it was his own kid. Then to vent his frustration, he gets cozy with some assistant?

In just one second, Cameron connected all the dots.

So Karl Freeman is literally the “guy next door” now?!

For a split second, he actually felt a little bad for Tristan.

Just then—whack! Pain thudded at the back of his head. Megan lifted her chin and snapped, "Go open the door, will ya?"

Cameron slumped like his whole belief system collapsed. Where’s the loyalty in love anymore?

When he opened the door, his jaw clicked stuck. “This... uh...”

The man outside stormed right in with a face darker than storm clouds.

Megan spotted him, casually dropped the bowl of nuts in her hands, and circled around the coffee table straight into his arms.

“Took you long enough. How should I punish you?”

“Hugs, kisses, maybe a little lifting action?” Tristan said with a smirk.

Cameron got sucker-punched with a fistful of sugar. Yep. That was Tristan Reid, all clean and sharp in his suit.

Walking past them, completely unfazed by their lovey-dovey aura, he motioned at the laptop. “Who’s that dude?”

“If you were tall enough, I’d let you take care of this one,” Tristan replied, chuckling.

Cameron was straight-up baffled. The heck is going on?

Then the screen blared with not-so-PG sounds. Tristan’s expression dropped hard. He strolled over and hit mute.

Megan was just about to go look when Tristan scooped her up. “Nope. Not letting you stare at other guys.”

He grabbed her hand and placed it on his abs. “Aren’t mine good enough? Why you looking elsewhere?”

Megan twitched at the corner of her mouth. “We’re literally on surveillance duty, man. It’s supposed to be a show.”

Tristan turned to Cameron. “You watch it.”

Cameron, resigned to his fate, sat down and stared at the screen full of spicy content. He silently stuffed tissues up his nostrils.

Please... no nosebleeds.

Was he just here to suffer?

He glanced over at Tristan whispering sweet nothings into Megan’s ear and, somehow, felt his faith in love return just a little.

“So,” Megan narrowed her eyes, “where exactly did she touch?”

“Nowhere,” Tristan gripped her hand, his voice serious. “I remembered your rules, babe. I wouldn’t dare.”

Megan leaned into him with a satisfied snort. “Good. What about the dosage of that hallucinogen? Better be strong enough, or she might wake too early.”

“Trust me, she’s out cold,” he squeezed her chin gently. “By the way, that lingerie—you planted it?”

“Well, we gotta sell the act, right? Don’t tell me you’re mad?”

Tristan’s sharp eyes narrowed slightly. “That was yours. No way someone else deserves to wear it. But...”

His gaze dropped to her curves. “You probably wouldn’t fit into it anymore anyway, considering the, uh, upgrades.”

Megan punched his chest lightly. “Watch it, or I’ll punch you into next week!"

Tristan chuckled lowly, then turned to Cameron. “Got any updates?”

Cameron’s voice was stuffed. “Yeah... they’re switching positions.”

Tristan ran a hand down his face. “If Liliana Martin ends up on top and starts searching with her hands, say something.”

Cameron blinked, then caught on. His eyes widened as the drama unfolded onscreen.

Five minutes later, he jumped up. “Boss! We’ve got something!”Tristan Reid ordered coldly, "Grab her."

On screen, the man moved fast, gripping the woman’s wrist. The spike in her hand clattered onto the bed.

He flung her to the floor and wrapped a towel around his waist without missing a beat.

Using another towel, he picked up the weapon, towering over the woman who coughed up blood.

Tristan strode out with Megan Shaw, hand in hand. Cameron Brooks followed right behind them.

They pushed open the door to the next room—there was Liliana Martin, bleeding from the mouth, face pale, sprawled on the ground with nothing on.

She looked between Tristan, Megan, and Cameron, her face frozen in terror. Her eyes darted to the towel-clad man—there were four Tristans in her vision now.

She couldn’t tell what was real.

“Cameron, get her something to cover up,” Megan said, her voice calm.

Cameron gave a small nod, fetched a robe from the bathroom, and tossed it over. “Put it on yourself. Don’t pollute everyone’s sight.”

Liliana pushed herself up and threw the robe on, yanking her hair wildly. “Why are there four of you? What the hell?”

“Give her the antidote,” Tristan instructed.

The man in the towel nodded, popped a white pill into her mouth.

After five minutes, the fog lifted. Liliana blinked, focus slipping back into her gaze.

“I should’ve known you’d see through me,” she said bitterly.

Tristan’s face was stone-cold. “Nathaniel Cooper sent you. Where is he?”

“I don’t know.”

Tristan chuckled with zero humor. “We’ve got CCTV footage and the weapon. You’re done. You’re just another failed pawn. Think he gives a damn what happens to your family?”

Her eyes flared with rage, snapping to him. “You dying is the only thing that would save them, isn’t it?”

Megan tilted her head with a faint smile. “We can remove the venom. We can also protect your family. But you’ve got to help us bring Nathaniel down.”

“You’re serious?” A flicker of hope broke through Liliana’s eyes.

“Of course. Let’s get that curse out of your system—right now.”

Liliana looked stunned.

Footsteps echoed in the room. Karl Freeman walked in, peeling off his black leather gloves with a lazy grin. “Still remember me, Nicole?”

“Karl Freeman? You were supposed to be dead...” she gasped.

“To the world, yeah. Helps keep Nathaniel careless. Without that, you wouldn’t have ended up being used like that, right?” A mischievous smile tugged at Karl’s lips. “Wanna get rid of that bug?”

“You know how to?” she asked, eyebrows raising in suspicion.

He took off his watch. From a red mole on his arm, a silver-winged Worm King emerged.

Liliana’s eyes went huge. “You—you actually raised a Worm King?”

“Go on,” Karl said softly.

The silvery creature darted into the air, spreading a faint, sweet scent. Liliana’s expression tightened in pain—then, a small black bug wiggled its way out from her nose and flew off.

Karl caught it in a vial before it could escape. “You’re good now.”

Lifting his arm, the silver-winged Worm King returned to its nest under his skin. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

Liliana’s lips trembled in a smile. Her eyes filled with tears. “I’m really free? No more threats?” She glanced at them, her voice shaky. “Thank you. But... what about my family? If Nathaniel figures out I’ve turned on him, he won’t spare them.”

Megan’s eyes lit up with a sly spark. “That’s why we need to give him a good show. Once it’s done, your family will be relocated overseas. Fresh start.”

Nicole hesitated briefly, then nodded. “Alright. I’m in.”
