The Heiress Spoiled by Four Brothers and One Devilish CEO-Chapter 181 Huge Fire’s Gonna Break Out Tonight
Mrs. Lewis stormed out and slammed the door hard behind her.
Megan let out a cold snort. She’d barely been back at the Lewis house for two hours, and Mrs. Lewis already came begging for that wretched woman? Wow, talk about loyalty.
But she wasn’t the type to show mercy — that’s never been her style.
Right then, the door creaked open and Samuel came striding in. "Heard the door slam and saw Grandma heading downstairs. What did she want from you?"
Megan just shrugged and sat down on the edge of her bed. "She’s got that bleeding heart. Guess what she wanted?"
"To talk about Amelia?"
Megan nodded. "You think she came up here to check on my baby or something?" She slipped into bed and curled up on her side.
Samuel crossed his arms. "What kind of spell did Amelia cast on her? Grandma’s completely blind to the truth."
"It’s not that she can’t see. She just doesn’t want to admit she raised a monster," Megan murmured.
Samuel nodded solemnly. "Fair point. If she comes again, just call me."
Megan turned her head and looked at him. "She won’t come back. I shut her down right away."
He sat at the edge of the bed, rubbing his chin. "Megan... you think she’d actually try to hurt you?"
Megan burst out laughing, then narrowed her eyes slowly. "Who knows? You should’ve seen how she was gripping that prayer bead bracelet, like she wished it was my neck. Protecting me is your job now — you’re on winter break, so you’ve got time."
Samuel grunted in agreement. "I’ll start by supervising dinner prep. Just in case someone decides to get clever."
As the door softly shut again, Megan let out a breath.
Trust no one. Not when Mrs. Lewis clearly didn’t like her, and now she’d royally pissed her off. Honestly, Amelia and Mrs. Lewis had more in common than anyone wanted to admit.
She wasn’t alone anymore — she had a baby on the way. And that baby needed her to stay sharp.
Sleep tugged at her, and her eyes began to close. But just then, her phone buzzed on the nightstand.
Instantly alert, she grabbed it and stared at the screen.
Karl.
She answered. "Hello?"
"It’s me, Megan. You made it to Lindon City?"
She smiled faintly. "Yeah. Are you okay? Did you get into trouble after I left?"
"No, don’t worry. I’m fine. Just... wanted to hear your voice."
"Glad to hear nothing happened to you."
"I should go."
Before she could say anything else, the call ended.
Megan frowned, her lips pressing together tightly. Something felt off — Karl sounded nervous, weirdly hesitant.
She’d asked Tristan what had gone down between him and Karl, but he’d said nothing.
She had a hunch though. Something wasn’t right with Karl, and Tristan was covering for him.
Whatever was brewing between the Reid and Lewis families, she had a feeling Karl was smack-dab in the middle.
All she could do now was stay out of the way.
Lost in thought, time slipped by, and soon it was dinnertime. Stella came upstairs to get her.
"My sweet girl, awake now?" Stella gently tucked a strand of hair behind Megan’s ear. "Samuel already told me everything. Don’t worry, sweetie — I’ve got your back."
Megan paused. "...He really wasted no time, huh?"She chuckled and said, "Mom, don’t worry too much, some things might not even happen."
She hadn’t planned on telling Stella about it. Her mom was already the anxious type, but she didn’t expect Samuel to be such a chatterbox.
Since Stella knew, chances were everyone else was in the loop too—except maybe Mrs. Lewis.
Well, guess they were all on guard against the old lady now.
Fine by her. It only meant she and the baby were a bit safer.
Megan let out a quiet "heh." Sometimes, being a little ’extra’ wasn’t a bad thing at all.
Stella led her toward the dining room. Other than Jason, both Oliver and Brandon were already back.
But Mrs. Lewis was nowhere to be seen. She was probably too annoyed to sit down and pretend everything was fine. Better to avoid that whole awkward family-dinner vibe.
Right now, Megan was clearly their little darling. Zachary carved the ribs and placed a few of the best pieces on her plate. The others kept passing her dishes and topping off her drink, making sure her plate was never empty.
Mr. Lewis couldn’t stop grinning. "Didn’t think our Shaw girl would come home with a surprise bonus."
Megan laughed, "Buy one, get two free—what a deal!"
Warm laughter filled the room, the whole family basking in joy. Meanwhile, someone else was living in hell.
"Amelia, heard you tried to off your own mom. That’s savage."
"Rumor has it you messed with the DNA test using hair strands. You serious?"
"Get over here and lick my boots!"
...
Amelia cowered in the corner, trembling, tears streaming down silently. Why did Megan get everything handed to her on a silver platter? Why did everyone love her, even the foster family?
Was it so wrong for Amelia to want love too?
Why did she have to be born to human traffickers? What did she do to deserve this? 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
Someone yanked her hair hard enough it felt like her scalp was tearing apart.
They dragged her across the floor toward the metal bed. A woman slapped her back and forth until blood trickled down from the corner of her mouth.
Then the woman nudged Amelia’s chin up with her toe. "Wow, such a pretty face. Too bad it won’t stay that way much longer."
She held up a snapped toothbrush, the jagged end pointing straight at Amelia’s face.
Amelia’s breathing turned rapid. Her eyes locked on the reflection in the sharpened edge as it came swinging down.
A scream of pain rang out in the cell, pierced through by cruel laughter that was sharp as knives.
She clutched her bleeding cheek, blood oozing through her fingers as the raw injury burned hot.
Nearly collapsing, Amelia staggered to the iron gate and banged on it with all her strength. "Officer! Help me! I need a different cell!"
Ten minutes later, she was in the infirmary. A deep gash was carved down the side of her face.
She felt completely hollow. Even if she did get out in ten years, what was she supposed to do with a face like this?
As the doctor dressed her wound, he suddenly muttered under his breath, "Huge fire’s gonna break out tonight. Someone will come get you. Just hold on."
Her eyes lit up instantly, full of hope.
She looked at him, overwhelmed with gratitude. The man smiled. "Don’t thank me. If you wanna thank someone, thank the Boss."
Amelia didn’t have a clue who that was, but it was clear she was still useful. If they were giving her a second chance, she’d throw everything into it.
And she’d have her revenge. Neither the Shaws nor the Reids were walking away clean.
Outside, it was a snowy winter night, sky gray like faded ink. Then came the blaring prison alarm.
"Fire! Somebody put it out!"
