Chapter 122: Chapter 122 Landon, Are You... Into Guys

"Boom"—a deafening explosion tore through the cluttered room.

The air instantly reeked of blood.

Hot breaths brushed against Megan’s ear—too familiar. Scenes like this? Basically her daily routine.

The issue? She was Landon Haynes now—a man. This whole situation felt wrong on so many levels.

She gave the guy’s back a casual pat. "Hey man, comfy enough? Time to get off me."

Tristan’s brows twitched. It’s not that he didn’t want to move—it’s just that the scent on this guy... way too familiar. It threw him off.

He slowly sat up, studying the disheveled "man" across from him. "You good, Mr. Haynes?"

Megan smiled faintly. "All thanks to your heroic timing. If you hadn’t shown up, I’d probably be toast."

"Looks like these people were after you. Yesterday’s crazy car chase wasn’t just a fluke either."

She smiled, no explanation offered, then got up and stretched out a hand to him.

Tristan didn’t take it. Ignored it completely and stood up.

Just then, officers rushed into the storage room, flicked on the lights.

As the bulbs lit up the scene, everyone froze. The thick stench of blood hit instantly.

Several of them gagged on the spot.

Tristan casually flipped the silver pistol in his hand and offered it to Ryan, the lead detective. "Found this lying around. Guy blew himself up."

Megan stepped forward. "I can confirm that."

Ryan eyed the stranger’s face. "And you are?"

She offered a polite grin. "Landon Haynes, CEO of NexusStar."

Landon Haynes?

Wasn’t he the same exec who got ambushed on the highway yesterday and apparently fought back?

Even their cop cars had been GPS-blocked.

Very interesting.

Ryan smiled politely. "Well then, I’ll have to ask both of you to accompany us for further questioning."

Tristan strode out calmly and Megan followed, matching his pace.

She kept her voice low. "Thanks for the save, Reid."

He hummed nonchalantly. "Don’t mention it. You actually helped me big time too."

"How so?"

They walked side by side when Tristan suddenly paused, glancing sideways at her. "Bennette, Channing and Robinson Group were setting me up. If I took action, they’d use it to raise the stakes and pull me in. If I didn’t, it’d wreck my standing with Oliver. Your ’timing’ gave me a clean exit. Still, sorry you nearly got killed for it."

So that’s why he showed up today. All that speech—it was meant just for her.

But did it feel like he held a grudge or something?

Out of curiosity, she asked, "My company officially launches in a week. Guess we’ll be seeing each other across enemy lines then."

Tristan let out a small sigh. "Just don’t go snooping around my business, alright?"

With that, he took off his jacket and lazily tossed it toward Cameron, who’d just arrived out of breath. "Any slower, and you’d be attending my funeral."

Cameron lowered his head. "I searched all of level one but found nothing."

Tristan scoffed. "Use that brain for once. Landon doesn’t have long legs, you think he’d get all the way downstairs that fast? Of course he’d take the nearest unlocked emergency door. Levels twelve to eight were sealed—he’d have to hit seven."

Cameron looked ashamed. "Got it. You really are sharp, Boss."

"It’s not me being sharp—it’s you being a dumbass."

Cameron: "..."

Megan listened to their back-and-forth, lips tightening into a thin line.

She watched the man’s tall figure walk away—

Damn, no kidding. That man’s dangerously handsome.God knows how much she just wanted to throw herself into his arms and plant a couple of kisses on his face.

She practically skipped as she followed him.

Ryan trailed right behind. A nearby officer nudged him with an elbow. "What’s up with this Landon guy? Kinda... girly, don’t you think? I mean, when we walked in earlier, Reid was literally on top of him."

Ryan shot him a cold glance. "You might wanna shut up before you catch a defamation suit. And if Mrs. Reid hears that kind of talk... well, good luck with that. That lady’s no joke... tsk."

The officer clamped his mouth shut immediately.

By the time they left the station, it was almost 3 PM.

Tristan glanced over at Megan. "Mr. Haynes, care to join me for a little hot spring relaxation?"

Hot springs?

Megan froze, her brain flashing back to when he’d flattened her on the ground and wouldn’t get off. A scary thought hit her.

Did Tristan actually... have a thing for Landon?

So... is he into both men and women?

As she zoned out, he closed the distance, leaned in close and spoke by her ear.

"You coming or not?"

Her fists tightened on instinct.

He straightened up, smile teasing. "I heard from Mr. Lewis that you were flirting with the receptionist at their company yesterday. Said women are your besties or something. So, Landon, are you... into guys?"

Picking up on his mocking tone, Megan gave him a mischievous grin, grabbed his sleeve and leaned in. "Of course. Men like you, Mr. Reid? Totally my type. Why don’t we go have that soak together?"

Tristan chuckled. "Sure."

Her smile froze instantly. Internally, she wailed.

Great. Her husband really swings both ways.

She swallowed hard. "Actually, I’ve got stuff to do. You go ahead."

Without waiting for his answer, she marched off toward the black car parked at the curb.

Arthur opened the door, Megan ducked in, and they slipped into the traffic.

Tristan lit a cigarette, taking a deep drag, his sharp eyes locked on the direction the car disappeared in.

Cameron asked, "Boss, still heading to the Westwood Hot Springs place?"

After one cigarette’s time, Tristan flicked the cigarette butt away. "Back to Dreamscape Manor."

Inside the car, Megan finally looked back once Tristan was completely out of sight.

Arthur glanced at her through the rearview mirror. "Sis Megan, that’s your man? Gotta admit, he’s ridiculously good-looking."

"Why do I feel like there’s something off about the way he talks?"

"You think he’s onto you?"

Megan mentally retraced every detail, shook her head. "No way. I didn’t slip."

Arthur said, "You have no idea. I had my weapon out, ready to rescue you, and bam, Cameron showed up. Totally threw me off."

"Yeah, you’re both pretty good at making things worse," she replied dryly.

Arthur blinked. "Wait... what?"

"Always messing things up more than helping."

Arthur: "..."

Meanwhile, Cameron, who was driving another car, sneezed violently. Someone must’ve been badmouthing him.

Megan ditched the disguise and made a quick stop at school to grab her car, and coincidentally bumped into Rachel right as class ended.

"Megan, why didn’t I see you in class? Tried calling and your phone was off. Don’t tell me you and my bro were off doing something shady?"

Megan poked her forehead. "What’s in that head of yours anyway?"

Then she got in her car and drove off.

Rachel pouted. "Totally doing shady stuff."

Back at Dreamscape Manor, Megan didn’t see Tristan’s car and assumed he wasn’t home yet.

She pushed open her bedroom door—and immediately heard water running from the bathroom.

So... he didn’t go to the hot springs?

She was about to knock when the door suddenly swung open, and before she could react, he yanked her straight inside.
