The Happy Farmer Wanderer-Chapter 658 Guan Lin’s Concerns_1
"This leak really was a lucky find. This is actually a brand new house that’s just been built and no one has ever lived in," Li Qing said.
He was genuinely satisfied with the house no matter how he looked at it.
Although the location was a bit out of the way, it wasn’t too far out. A thousand meters from the door and you’d reach the commercial street of Shili Yi.
"It was indeed uninhabited from the start," Qi Mengru said. "Moreover, the timing of the owner’s bankruptcy was quite coincidental. While he was decorating, he was also massively contracting these kinds of antique-style villas. As soon as it was finished, he went bust, just like that. His assets shrank from tens of millions to nothing."
"What did he do to lose it all in one fell swoop?" Guan Lin asked curiously.
"I don’t know the details, but I heard him vaguely mention something about a gambling agreement," Qi Mengru said. "With gambling agreements, it depends on what you bet on. If you play too big, you really can lose everything in an instant."
"Then it has nothing to do with supernatural stuff; he just played too big," Li Qing said.
He was just curious, really thinking there was an issue with the place that caused its previous owner to suddenly collapse financially.
But looking at the house, whether it was the overall layout or the aura, it all seemed quite grand without giving off an unsettling feeling.
Upon hearing about the gambling agreement, Li Qing suddenly understood.
It was not the place to blame, but the person!
"Are these things in the room left by the previous owner?" Li Qing asked.
Qi Mengru shook her head, "Definitely not. I have been tidying up recently. Having spent over four million on the house, using someone else’s leftovers doesn’t feel quite right. How do you like my taste?"
"After I bought the house, I hired people to clean it up thoroughly, and then I ordered a batch of beds, tables, chairs, and the like. I more or less settled the big items in this room first. The rest we can add or replace according to individual preferences."
"Fantastic, an antique house should definitely have wooden furniture. Anything else just doesn’t look right," Li Qing said with satisfaction. "You said you’d think about it earlier, were you already plotting to buy it for yourself then?"
Qi Mengru let out a light laugh, "I knew you were always very macho. I bought it quietly, so you shouldn’t have anything to say now, and you wouldn’t insist on giving me the money back."
"You weren’t honest before, hesitating to tell me the truth," Li Qing huffed lightly, displeased. "Do you think I should properly punish you today?"
Qi Mengru looked at Li Qing shyly, her eyes sparkling with a gentle light, and said softly, "Sure, punish me however you want today. I’ll accept it as long as you’re happy with the house."
"You really are..." Li Qing was so exasperated he laughed.
"Um... Can I also have a room?" Guan Lin suddenly asked softly. "I know I’m in a bit of a special situation."
"What’s so special about it? You guys are about to divorce, right?" Qi Mengru laughed. "Come on, let me show you your room. I’ve already sorted out both our rooms, even the appliances are in place. Let’s see if you’re happy with it."
"Really, really?" Guan Lin’s eyes widened in surprise. "I, I was just asking casually. I shouldn’t really have a share by rights."
"Look at you, being all shy about it. This house was bought for Qingzi, not by me. You better get that straight," Qi Mengru said with a laugh. "Both of us are Qingzi’s women, why should there be any favoritism? Let’s go, let’s have a look."
"Benefit from being close to the water—the rooms for both of us I’ve already taken, letting them pick from what’s left afterwards."
Qi Mengru led Guan Lin by the hand, through the porch, and into the second courtyard.
Although this house was built in an ancient style, it was unlike the traditional three-section compounds of the past, the layout was much larger.
Just the second courtyard alone had over ten rooms, with six bedrooms.
Qi Mengru chose adjacent rooms for herself and Guan Lin, on the second floor to the right, with excellent lighting.
The two rooms shared a small living room and bathroom, and emerging from the corridor adorned with carved beams and painted rafters was a floral hall, next to which lay additional bedrooms and a tea room, not very large but exquisitely laid out.
Li Qing was almost dazzled, this was the real definition of a lavish mansion.
Looking at the layout and décor, practically every nook and cranny oozed two words—luxury and enjoyment.
"This is my room?" Guan Lin looked around in shock, so surprised she could hardly close her mouth, her eyes filled with love.
For a woman who loved literature and was strongly influenced by ancient culture, it was probably impossible to reject such an antique dwelling.
In front of the door was a rippling green lake, surrounded by mountain flowers at the doorstep, behind the house stood green mountains and dancing bamboo forests.
Being here, every moment of thought felt like time travel.
"I—I really don’t know what to say... thank you." Guan Lin’s eyes shimmered with a faint mist, her expression complex and poignant.
"This house was bought by Qingzi, don’t dwell on this matter anymore. You only need to deal with your own issues now. I’m aware of your family matters too. Since dragging them out serves no purpose, it’s better to make a clean break earlier. I know what you’re thinking, but if you hesitate, the mistake becomes your own. We women are always at a disadvantage," Qi Mengru said softly, embracing Guan Lin’s slender shoulders.
Li Qing looked at Guan Lin earnestly, nodding slightly, "I’ll follow your wishes."
He actually knew about Guan Lin’s current family issues, but with a child involved, there were things he found difficult to say.
All he could do was to treat Guan Lin without bias at this time, following her own desires.
Guan Lin pursed her lips and nodded, "I will make up my mind as soon as possible, but, I’m claiming this room."
Qi Mengru giggled softly, comforting her, "Don’t be saddened by the misfortunes of the past; we must look to the future. That guy Qingzi, he’s just too fickle; other than that, I truly can’t find another fault with him. His women, even such a large mansion may not be able to accommodate them all, there are some I don’t know about, and some I do, but I didn’t include them in the headcount, as long as you don’t mind this aspect, you can definitely make up your mind."
Li Qing touched his nose with a slightly embarrassed gesture; after all, this matter had always been heartfelt for him.
Perhaps it was destined.
"Speaking of which, is this house really only worth four million?" Li Qing turned to ask Qi Mengru.
The more he looked at it, the more expensive it seemed.
"You really shouldn’t doubt it; it’s four million with an extra two hundred thousand. Didn’t I tell you, the previous owner took a loss and was eager to sell? Tongcheng is not short of rich people, but finding someone who could take a fancy to this place right away was not that easy," Qi Mengru explained.
