The Happy Farmer Wanderer-Chapter 319 Wilderness Night Talk_1
This call brought a sigh of relief to Sister Hu and Qi Xuelan.
Although eight or nine hours would also last till tomorrow morning, it gave a completely different psychological feeling.
"Listening to the guide this morning, I learned that the specialty of Zhulong Valley lies in its uniqueness and perilous terrain. I never expected that we would be trapped in this very danger," Qi Xuelan said with a sigh.
"This is the only gorge within the stone forest that’s well-preserved, and it just had to be where we got stuck," Sister Hu said self-mockingly. "This is all my fault!"
"Let’s not talk about that now. The situation isn’t that bad; at least we have a place that provides shelter from the wind and rain. While it’s still slightly visible, let’s tidy up this place," Li Qing stood up and said.
After the initial panic, he had calmed down.
If this place was previously inhabited by a designer, then the safety was certainly guaranteed.
There were a few packs of biscuits in his bag, and making do with those would see them through the night.
But the two women were clearly still shaken, and he, the only man, had to take up the responsibility.
"I’ll sweep the bed and lay these cardboard pieces on it," Qi Xuelan suggested.
"Then I... I’ll go look for some firewood. It’s quite high up here; the night might get rather cold," Sister Hu volunteered for a task that was quite challenging for her.
"Never mind, Sister Hu. You stay with Qi sister and organize our sleeping quarters. I’ll go find the firewood," Li Qing stopped Sister Hu.
He guessed she wouldn’t even dare to step outside the door now, let alone find firewood.
In fact, he didn’t feel cold; on the contrary, he felt rather warm.
After all, it was the weather in August.
But in this remote wilderness, having a fire might make everyone feel psychologically safer.
Li Qing went outside, using the faint light from his cellphone, and began searching around the house.
He guessed that people who had previously stayed here might have used a stove and could have left some firewood behind.
And sure enough, he found some behind the house without any surprises.
There was even a temporary toilet made from the same iron sheets nearby.
The previous inhabitants here were quite particular.
But then Li Qing thought about the fact that this was a scenic area and felt relieved.
After all, it wasn’t truly the wilderness; they couldn’t be too casual about it.
He carried a bundle of firewood back to the room.
Sister Hu and Qi Xuelan had already spread cardboard on the double bed.
What’s outrageous was that they had even covered it with a diagonally-striped bedsheet.
The abandoned hut instantly became cozy.
Li Qing was also shocked, "Which one of you brought a bedsheet when you went out?"
"What bedsheet? This is Sister Hu’s silk scarf," Qi Xuelan chuckled.
"A silk scarf this big?" Li Qing asked in surprise.
Sister Hu and Qi Xuelan both nodded.
Li Qing gave the silk scarf that covered most of the bed another look, puzzled about how exactly it was supposed to be used.
"Let’s not waste such a good silk scarf. Sister Hu, you should put it away," Li Qing squatted down, cleaning the stove while he spoke, "We’ll just make do for one night; there’s no need for such luxury."
"I’ve already tried to dissuade her, but Sister Hu said that it’s cleaner this way and also makes the place look inhabited," Qi Xuelan squatted next to Li Qing, helping him sort out the smaller pieces of wood for kindling.
"It’s okay, it’s just a silk scarf," Sister Hu laughed.
They seemed to have calmed down now.
The flames leapt up from the stove, and the intense light immediately gave warmth to this cramped room.
Li Qing swept the table clean and said, "Tonight, I’ll sleep on this, and you two sleep on the bed."
"Xiao Li, let’s just squeeze together," Sister Hu said with a blush, speaking softly, "If we sleep diagonally, no one will crowd each other, and I think it feels... safer this way."
Qi Xuelan’s face also quietly reddened, "The table is so small, how can you fit on it with your size?"
"We can lay the table sideways and put some cardboard down on that side. Patching them together, we’ll have a larger space."
Li Qing nodded.
This suggestion wasn’t bad at all.
If he could have close contact with the two women, Li Qing was naturally very willing.
Afterward, Li Qing and Qi Xuelan lifted the table, laying it on its side next to the bed, which made it roughly even with the bed.
With two layers of cardboard on top, a spacious big bed was born.
Li Qing patted the cardboard and smiled, "Out in the wilderness, this could be considered top-notch luxury."
"Are you hungry? I have a pack of bread and half a bottle of water," Sister Hu curled up her legs sitting on the bed, opening her small bag that she carried with her.
"I have some too..." Qi Xuelan also rummaged through her bag.
Out poured a bunch of snacks, big and small.
It seemed she wasn’t much for regular food but had a fondness for these little snacks.
Seeing this, Li Qing also took out his bag, "I have some cookies and a bottle of water; together, it should be enough."
"Having food and drink and a place to stay doesn’t seem too bad," Qi Xuelan said, stretching herself.
Her smooth, flat stomach was revealed as she moved.
Though she sat in an office all day, she kept in good shape.
Li Qing glanced at her and felt a warmth in his heart.
"But I’m still a little scared..." Sister Hu curled her legs and scooted closer to Li Qing and Qi Xuelan with a trembling voice, "This kind of place, there shouldn’t be... ghosts, should there?"
Li Qing couldn’t help but laugh upon hearing this, "Sister Hu, don’t worry, there’s no such thing."
"You never know though, I’ve heard that the more desolate a place is, the more bizarre it is!" Qi Xuelan suddenly said, "Zhulong Valley itself has a very eerie terrain. If it wasn’t a tourist spot with lots of people coming and going, I bet not many faint-hearted people would dare to enter. Just the thought of it is frightening."
With that said, Sister Hu became even more scared.
She nervously looked around and shuffled a bit closer to Li Qing.
Li Qing smiled helplessly. In such environments, there’s always someone who’s both timid and loves to speculate.
He once had a classmate just like that.
Even though he was terrified himself, he loved to talk about all sorts of strange and bizarre things.
Unexpectedly, today in this place, Qi Xuelan had become that person.
"Let’s not talk about it anymore. Why do I feel like there’s something watching me around here?" Sister Hu’s voice, filled with nervousness, trembled more clearly as she gently leaned against Li Qing.
She probably wanted to lean on him but was also a bit afraid to do so.
Li Qing, feeling the faint fragrance from this beautiful woman, had a subtle urge rising within him.
He extended his hand and gently patted Sister Hu’s back, "Sister Hu, there’s nothing—"
Before Li Qing could utter his words of comfort, Sister Hu suddenly screamed and lunged into Li Qing’s arms.
