Chapter 242: Chapter 242 The Changes in the Village_1

"For me?"

Han Mei was so shocked that she seemed to lose her focus.

After a moment, she spoke softly, "Qingzi, Auntie Caili’s store is the only convenience store in the village, and the business is quite substantial. You can’t give it to me."

"You should give it to Wu Xingxing, or let her look after it for now."

"About you and Xingxing, I talked to Auntie Yu Lan again today. I won’t rush you, I’ll let you two get to know each other on your own. Auntie Yu Lan said Xingxing is also interested in you. If you just give the nod, I see a nine out of ten chance this will work out."

Li Qing’s face fell instantly.

He put down the basket of tomatoes and, scratching his head, suddenly hoisted Han Mei onto his shoulder.

"Qingzi, what are you doing? Put me down, hurry!" Han Mei yelled in panic.

"I won’t!" Li Qing said in a muffled voice. "I realize now that unless I make you my woman, you’re not going to let go of this idea. I’m going to settle this today, so you’ll fully give up."

"Don’t mess around, put me down, okay?" Han Mei shouted. "If you don’t let go, I’ll get angry."

"Get angry then. I wouldn’t even be afraid if you got so mad that you gave birth to a child!" Li Qing continued, striding towards the house.

Han Mei fiercely twisted Li Qing’s ear, "Are you going to let go or not?"

Li Qing yelped in pain and stumbled involuntarily.

"Sister-in-law, let go, it hurts!" Li Qing grimaced in pain and yelled.

Han Mei, hanging over Li Qing’s shoulder, glared with round eyes, and yelled fiercely, "Are you going to let go or not?"

"I will, I will, I will!" Li Qing quickly admitted defeat.

It wasn’t that Han Mei’s twisting hurt that much, but her nails were digging in.

That kind of pain really made Li Qing’s scalp go numb.

"Sister-in-law, it’s decided then. If you force me again, I... will run away from home!" Li Qing stubbornly said, putting on a face as if he was ready to face death and muttered.

"Come on, try and leave. I want to see you do it!" Han Mei raised her hand and shouted.

Li Qing lifted his eyelids, scratching his head and met Han Mei’s challenge with silence.

Han Mei glanced at Li Qing and said irritably, "I’ve already said I won’t push you anymore. You two go get to know each other. When the time is right, I’ll make the arrangements."

"Sister-in-law!" Li Qing shouted angrily, "I just want you!"

"Alright, alright, I won’t talk about it anymore, go move the tomatoes." Seeing that Li Qing was really angry, Han Mei quickly waved her hand and said.

Although Han Mei said she would drop the subject, she still mentioned it whenever she had free time in the days that followed.

Through hints and euphemisms, she kept pouring those words into Li Qing’s ears.

Li Qing became increasingly impatient, and after dinner, he went back to his own house.

Although he didn’t have a firm idea about these matters, he didn’t like Han Mei arranging his life like this.

The next day, Li Qing went to the mountains and then into town, just as unchangeable as thunder.

He could almost navigate the route with his eyes closed by now.

After taking care of the two daily chores early, Li Qing got back to the village at around noon.

Just as he parked his car at the entrance to his house, Yang Xuelan came over with a cup in her hands.

Recently, this woman had truly nothing to do.

With nothing better, she wandered aimlessly all over the place.

"How come I can’t see your belly growing at all?" Li Qing glanced and asked.

"It’s not even been a month yet; how could it possibly show?" Yang Xuelan said gently touching her stomach, "Wait until around three or four months; then you might start to see a bit of a change."

"By the way, Qingzi, did you know your sister-in-law became an official?"

"An official? What kind of official did my sister-in-law become?" Li Qing asked in surprise.

He had no idea about this development.

"Looks like you didn’t know," Yang Xuelan said, "There was a meeting at the village hall this morning. Your sister-in-law and Auntie Yu Lan both became officials. Your sister-in-law is now a secretary, and Auntie Yu Lan became the director of women’s affairs. I heard there’s quite a bit of money in it for them every year."

Yang Xuelan’s tone was tinged with sourness.

Han Mei and Yu Lan had both become officials, which must be a good thing.

But Li Qing felt some unease about the situation.

Just yesterday, Qin Wenjun had hauled the people from various community groups over the coals, and the meeting ended on a sour note.

Today, a new meeting was called out of the blue, and they elected Han Mei and Yu Lan as the clerk and the director of women’s affairs.

In the whole village committee, the most important positions were really just these few.

Now, they were all held by women.

The positions of the party branch secretary and the village head were both shouldered by Qin Wenjun.

Then there was the director.

But this director, Tang Jianmin, if one were to be strict, had the word ’deputy’ in front of his title.

It was just that everyone had gotten used to calling him that, overlooking the fact that the actual head of the village committee was the village head.

The one they kept calling ’director’ was actually the deputy director.

And following the director, there was the clerk and director of women’s affairs.

Qin Wenjun’s maneuver left Li Qing really bewildered.

What was she trying to do?

Being a woman herself, did she want to turn the entire village committee into an all-women’s team?

That was a bit too much, wasn’t it?

With this thought, not only did he feel little joy for Han Mei’s and Yu Lan’s appointments, he was actually quite worried.

Han Mei was living a widowed life, and Yu Lan had also been seriously affected by Hu Youyu, currently entangled in quite a few matters.

Add to that a Qin Wenjun who wanted to command respect from the outset and act like she could order everyone around.

The handling of future matters seems quite problematic.

"Is there any other news?" Li Qing came back to his senses and asked Yang Xue Lan.

Yang Xue Lan thought for a moment, "Oh, there actually is another thing. This morning they notified us that all the women in the village have to go to the village committee for a meeting this afternoon. After lunch, I need to get going."

Li Qing was a bit confused.

What on earth was Qin Wenjun trying to do?

"I won’t keep you, I need to go home to cook. If you hadn’t asked just now, I almost forgot about it," Yang Xue Lan said hurriedly, turning around to head home.

Li Qing stood still for a moment, shaking his head as he entered his house.

Apart from his concern for Han Mei’s and Yu Lan’s upcoming work, he was indifferent to the rest.

After all, he didn’t care much about it.

If any trouble did arise, the headache would ultimately rest on Qin Wenjun’s shoulders.

Neither Han Mei nor Tian Yue’e came over for lunch, so Li Qing fixed a quick meal for himself. Just as he was getting ready to take a short nap, suddenly a figure walked in through the front gate.

Li Qing looked carefully, and his expression instantly became full of surprise.

The visitor was Qin Wenjun.

She was in her usual outfit, a white blouse matched with a black skirt just covering her knees, her long hair over her shoulders, with a brown bag hanging on it.

"At home, huh? There’s some information I need to verify with you, please cooperate," said Qin Wenjun as she entered.

Li Qing was somewhat puzzled but simply nodded.

"Let’s talk inside," she said.

Qin Wenjun walked into the main room as if it were her own house.

Her condescending attitude greatly irked Li Qing.

What was she here for?

To interrogate a criminal?!
