The Happy Farmer Wanderer-Chapter 189 Visiting Teacher Guan_1
The message was sent over by Wu Xingxing.
"Hey, big boss, need a female worker to lend a hand? I’m super hardworking."
"Hey, are you asleep? Not responding to my message."
"What’s up? What’s up? What are you doing?"
Looking at the continuous stream of "What are you doing?" Li Qing couldn’t help but smile knowingly.
She must be so bored!
However, Li Qing couldn’t really take her up on her offer to help.
There were already enough women helping out at home.
If they added Wu Xingxing, who was frank to a fault and had a quirky nature, who knew what might happen?
He sent Wu Xingxing a message back, kindly declining her offer and told her to go to bed early.
Li Qing held his phone and waited for a while, but when no reply came, he tossed the phone aside.
It seemed that she had already fallen asleep.
The next day.
It was another scorching hot day that could cause heatstroke.
In the past, such weather only made Li Qing feel cheerful.
But now, he couldn’t feel cheerful at all.
With the relentless heat every day, the leaves didn’t grow, and the money he could make was less.
Li Qing had become somewhat anxious waiting for the summer rains.
As usual, he and Gao Li made a trip into the mountains, and after purchasing, he rode alone to the town.
Everything has a learning curve.
Liang Zhongliang and the others were now starting to gather the goods earlier and earlier.
Now, by around noon, they could have all the goods gathered in the town.
As always, Li Qing processed the Wenguan Large Leaves thoroughly and then went on to settle accounts and deliver the goods separately to Lü Zong and Yu Baishuo.
By the time Li Qing finished all this and returned to the village with the money, it was just after two o’clock.
After a comfortable nap, he went with Han Mei and the others into the Wenguan Forest.
There were not many Wenguan Leaves left to pick in their yard now.
A few people worked together all afternoon and managed to pick them all.
These leaves brought Li Qing almost ten thousand yuan,
With money in his pocket and a pleasing woman by his side, life suddenly had a lot more flavor and beautiful expectations.
Li Qing figured that if he could maintain this income, it wouldn’t be long before he could get a house in the county city.
In the evening, after they had settled down, Li Qing told Han Mei about Teacher Guan inviting him over for dinner.
After hearing this, Han Mei couldn’t help but be surprised, "That little ruffian who beat up the Shepherd is actually Teacher Guan’s younger brother-in-law?"
"I didn’t expect it to be such a coincidence either," said Li Qing with a light smile, "I meant to tell my sister-in-law about it last night, but I got distracted by other things and forgot."
Han Mei gave Li Qing a watery look and playfully glared at him, "You have some nerve, not knowing where to look all day long."
"I would love to keep my eyes on my sister-in-law’s charming spots, but you won’t let me!" Li Qing said with a mischievous look as he glanced at Han Mei’s ample bosom.
Han Mei raised an eyebrow and lifted her fist, "Still talking nonsense, aren’t you afraid others will hear?"
"It’s just us, nothing wrong if Tian Yue’e hears it," Li Qing said with a grin.
Yang Xuelan and her husband had already gone back, and now there were only three of them in the house.
Otherwise, Li Qing wouldn’t have been so unabashed, saying whatever came to mind.
"It’s quite nice to listen to, say it one more time for me?" Han Mei suddenly put on a mischievous smile and said with glee.
Li Qing immediately became serious, shook his head, and said, "Not saying it anymore."
Once Han Mei made that expression, he knew for sure nothing good would come of it.
"Although Jiang Youwei is a bit of a scoundrel, Teacher Guan is reasonable and understanding. Her inviting you to dinner is also a way of showing you respect, trying to clear the air. I think you should go," Han Mei gave Li Qing a pointed look, then spoke with a solemn tone.
"Alright, I’ll listen to my sister-in-law," Li Qing nodded and replied.
He had been planning to go anyway.
Teacher Guan was alluring and charming; he found it very hard to refuse.
"You should go early. I’ll lock the door for you later," Han Mei said. "Oh, and don’t go empty-handed. Didn’t your boss give you several boxes of seafood last time? I see there are still two or three boxes left. We don’t have a freezer, and those things won’t keep for long. You should take a box with you."
Li Qing nodded, "I got it, sister-in-law. I’ll be heading out then."
After tidying himself up a bit, Li Qing carried a box of seafood and crossed the mountains to Hengqu Village.
When he arrived at Guan Lin’s place, he happened to run into Old Jiang lugging a cart of cow dung from behind the house.
"Xiao Li, come inside quickly!"
Old Jiang dropped the dung, wiped his hands on his trousers, and beckoned Li Qing into the house.
"Uncle Jiang, after you."
Li Qing let Old Jiang go ahead of him before following him inside.
Last night, it was too dark for Li Qing to notice what Guan Lin’s house was like.
Now, during the day, he realized it was quite spacious.
After entering through the main gate, there was a small courtyard.
There were two rooms the size of gatehouses, and beside them, a seedbed and vegetable garden had been enclosed.
In front and to the left, each had a round archway leading to another two courtyards.
Seeing that Li Qing was looking around intently, Old Jiang explained with a chuckle, "The front one belongs to my eldest, the one on the left to my second, and my wife and I live in these two rooms here."
So it turned out that each of the three father and sons had their own courtyard, with the eldest’s looking the smallest.
"Uncle Jiangʼs place is quite grand, like the three-section compound of an ancient well-to-do family," Li Qing said with a smile.
Old Jiang uttered a ’heh’, "What’s grand about it? The kids are grown, and with that comes more issues. Living apart keeps things peaceful."
"Let’s go, Xiao Li, to the eldest’s house. I’d told them both early today that they must come back to join you for a meal."
"But those two rascals, the elder is busy driving, and the second, as soon as he heard you were coming, vanished in no time, don’t know where he’s gone off to mess around. Don’t take it personally," Old Jiang continued.
"It’s fine, no worries," Li Qing waved it off.
He wasn’t here for those two brothers; having Teacher Guan around was enough.
Just as he entered the eldest’s courtyard, Guan Lin came out to greet him, followed by an older woman carrying a child.
They probably heard the noise from his and Old Jiang’s conversation.
"Let’s talk inside."
Guan Lin greeted Li Qing with a nod, a light smile on her face.
Li Qing returned the smile, nodding, and handed the seafood he had brought to Old Jiang.
"Xiao Li, this... we should be apologizing to you, why are you bringing gifts?" Old Jiang looked embarrassed.
"Uncle Jiang, I’m just here as a guest, not really waiting for anyone to apologize," Li Qing said with a laugh.
After everyone sat down in the main hall, the woman who appeared to be Teacher Guan’s mother-in-law handed the child over to Old Jiang and said to Guan Lin, "Linʼer, we’re not good with words. You chat with Xiao Li, keep him company. I’ll go take care of the food."
The couple quickly set up a table with tea and snacks, and before long, they were out of sight.
Li Qing looked utterly baffled.
Why did it seem like they were creating an opportunity for him and Teacher Guan?
