The Greatest Village Doctor In The World-Chapter 271: The Winding Path to a Secluded Place
Ling Feng couldn’t figure out what was going on.
Unfortunately, since there was no way to communicate, he really wanted to understand what exactly was happening!
Seeing the three wild rabbits Wang Cai had placed at his feet, Ling Feng understood what was intended, so he smiled and said, "Alright, it’s been a while since I’ve had roasted rabbit, today I’ll indulge you lot in a feast!"
Wang Cai and the two puppies were immediately overjoyed, their tails vigorously wagging so much that they swept the ground clean!
Returning home, he found the house eerily quiet; Li Fei’er was not around, probably hanging out with Xun Qianqian.
Ling Feng prepared the wild rabbits, placed them on the fire to roast, and contemplated as he watched the obediently seated pack of one wolf and two dogs.
He had been meaning to check on that big yellow dog for a while but never found the time. Perhaps now was the chance to do so?
As he was thinking, Li Fei’er hummed a tune, bouncing back into the house.
Upon seeing Ling Feng, her first reaction was one of delighted surprise, but her words were somewhat exasperating: "Wow, we’re having roasted meat today!"
Ling Feng looked up at her and noticed she was wearing a short skirt, revealing her long, slender legs that were tender and pale.
After a brief glance, he spoke: "You don’t get any, this is for Wang Cai!"
"They can’t eat that much, right, Wang Cai?"
Li Fei’er asked nonchalantly, still smiling.
Wang Cai dared not look her in the eye, casting her a sidelong glance without making a sound.
The message was clear, while deeply opposed to Li Fei’er’s statement, it dared not protest and resigned itself to its fate!
Observing the scene, Ling Feng couldn’t help but laugh: "You’re really something, competing with a wolf for food!"
"Who told you to be such a good cook!"
Li Fei’er pouted, then asked, "By the way, how was last night? Did you wear yourself out?"
Ling Feng glared: "Silly girl, what kinds of things are you thinking about at your age!"
"Ha, someone’s blushing!"
Li Fei’er paid him no mind and skipped into the inner room.
The aroma of the meat soon filled the whole house, and by the time she reappeared, it turned out she had gone to change her clothes.
With all eyes, big and small, fixed on the roast in his hands, Ling Feng shook his head helplessly, tore off a rabbit leg and handed it to Li Fei’er: "Let’s fill you up first!"
"Alright, thanks a lot, uncle!"
Li Fei’er, unable to close her mouth from joy, took it and bit into it right away, exclaiming immediately: "Delicious!"
Wang Cai and the two puppies watched longingly, their saliva already making puddles, and seeing this, Ling Feng chopped the two rabbits into pieces and threw them over.
Once everyone was eating, he turned to Li Fei’er: "Can’t you understand what animals are thinking? How about you come with me outside?"
"What for?"
Li Fei’er, mouth full of meat and cheeks bulging, asked.
"I want to check on that big yellow dog. It and Wang Cai are a pair, but I don’t understand why it doesn’t care for these two pups, and it seems to know that they would be with me, giving them to me. Don’t you think that’s odd?" Ling Feng said.
"What’s so odd about that? It couldn’t take care of them, so it left the dad to do it!" Li Fei’er said nonchalantly.
Ling Feng looked at her: "Why couldn’t it take care of them? Aren’t you curious?"
"Not curious!"
"You’re not curious, but I am, okay? So are we going or not?" Ling Feng asked somewhat exasperatedly.
Li Fei’er, busy eating her meat, looked up at him: "We’ll go, alright? It’s hard to refuse someone who’s fed you."
Hearing her agreement, Ling Feng finally nodded in satisfaction.
It was only noon now. Having fed everyone, big and small, he wasn’t hungry himself, so after washing his hands, he went to get the tricycle ready to set off.
Li Fei’er washed her hands quickly and came out. The two of them sat on the tricycle and left Shiliu Village.
Ling Feng still remembered the intersection from last time, and fifteen minutes later, they reached it.
A narrow path led forth into the woods ahead. Ling Feng hadn’t driven far before realizing the road was getting too narrow for the tricycle to continue.
With no other choice, the two had to proceed on foot, walking along the narrow path.
The surroundings were all woodlands, Ling Feng had never been here before nor did he know whether there would be a village or something else ahead, so they could only feel their way forward.
"Uncle, you are really curious, aren’t you? At your age, why are you so concerned about a big yellow dog?" Li Fei’er, bored as she walked, couldn’t help but ask.
Ling Feng gave her a look: "What do you mean ’at your age’? When did I become an old man?"
"Anyone older than me is an old man!" Li Fei’er giggled in response.
Ling Feng couldn’t be bothered to argue with her, so he just sighed and said, "I just find it strange, that’s all. I’ve got nothing better to do, so why not come and take a look?"
"You’re not hoping for some kind of adventure, are you?" Li Fei’er asked.
"How could that be? Could such good fortune even befall me?" Ling Feng shook his head.
"That’s true!"
Li Fei’er nodded, agreeing completely.
"Hey, what do you mean by that?" unable to resist, Ling Feng asked upon seeing her reaction.
"Hehe, I almost didn’t sleep at all last night. I heard from Qian Qian about the two of you going into the mountains. Oh, and next time you go, can you take me with you?" Li Fei’er asked with a grin.
Ling Feng was speechless. That Xun Qianqian really had a big mouth!
"We’ll see when the time comes. Searching for treasure in the mountains sounds exciting, but it’s actually quite dangerous!"
"With you there, what danger could there be? Promise me, will you? If you don’t, I’m not moving from here!" Li Fei’er stopped walking, pouting as she spoke.
"Really, you’re such a brat. One moment you’re one way, the next you’ve changed. I promise you, happy now?" Ling Feng said helplessly.
"Yay!"
Li Fei’er’s face immediately burst into a joyful smile.
As they talked, they walked on. The path wasn’t wide but it was quite long; they walked for four or five li without seeing any signs of a village or human activity.
Ling Feng was at a loss for words, never expecting to find such a secluded place near his home.
As he was beginning to regret coming, Li Fei’er pointed with her little hand: "Uncle, look!"
Following the direction she was pointing, Ling Feng saw at the edge of the woods ahead, a corner of a stone wall built up!
"Have we finally arrived?"
Seeing this, Ling Feng’s spirits lifted immediately, and taking Li Fei’er by the hand, he hastened forward.
Soon, they reached the stone wall and saw a small, single-storied house.
The house looked very old from the outside, one of those adobe houses from years gone by, probably built three to four decades ago.
The courtyard enclosed by the stone wall wasn’t large; there was a well, a small vegetable garden, and nothing more.
Ling Feng stood at the wooden gate, calling into the yard: "Excuse me, is anyone there?"
After calling out twice, no one answered. Li Fei’er couldn’t help but say, "Could this place be an abandoned house?"
"Not likely. Look at those vegetables; clearly someone has been tending to them!" Ling Feng replied.
He called out twice more with no response, decisively pushed the gate open, and walked straight into the yard.
Upon reaching the door of the earthen house, Ling Feng was just about to knock when a shadow flashed from behind the house, charging towards them!
