Chapter 194: Chapter 194 Zhang Lan’s Reminder

Ling Feng felt awkward, "Yeah, that’s why the fewer people who know, the better."

"My lips are sealed, don’t worry."

Wang Laogen patted his shoulder and then said, "Let’s get through tonight first. If the person who poisoned the drink really messes up, I’ll teach you what to do next, guaranteed to give Luo Qianyang a sour treat!"

"Okay!"

Ling Feng nodded and then gave him a look, "Old Wang, why are you so good to me?"

"Nonsense, you’re my God of Wealth, if I don’t treat you well, who will?" Wang Laogen rolled his eyes.

After that, he turned around and left, saying as he went, "Wait for my call, otherwise don’t act rashly!"

"Got it."

Ling Feng responded and watched him leave the hotel, then turned and went upstairs.

However, he didn’t immediately go to Mo Jiaolan’s office but stopped at the corner of the staircase.

Wang Laogen’s behavior today was somewhat unexpected and made Ling Feng reassess him; the old man was definitely not as simple as he seemed on the surface.

His influence was significant, and he had many methods; even though he was on his side, Ling Feng still felt some doubts.

The so-called reason of money was clearly just an excuse; Ling Feng felt there must be deeper reasons.

But as to what these reasons were, he thought for a while and couldn’t figure it out.

While guessing, his phone suddenly rang.

It was Zhang Lan’s number; Ling Feng answered, "What’s up?"

"You’re not at home, leaving a dripping-wet beauty all alone in an empty room?" Zhang Lan asked.

Ling Feng was startled, then realized what she meant, "You went to find me?"

"Yeah, I wanted to give you a surprise, but I ended up surprising myself!" Zhang Lan said with a hint of resentment.

Ling Feng was speechless; now that they had met in his own home, both parties knew exactly what was going on!

"Did you and Shiyun talk about anything?" Ling Feng asked.

"Nope, I said I was there to discuss the mining business with you, and she said she would keep an eye on the house for you."

Ling Feng could only give a bitter smile.

After Zhang Lan finished speaking, she continued to ask, "Where in the county are you? I’ll be there soon."

"Really? Looks like you won’t give up until you see me tonight, huh?" Ling Feng asked.

"Go away! I’m here for business, I know about the Mo Jiaolan situation!" Zhang Lan spat at him.

"Fine, I also want to talk to you; shall we meet at the hotel?" Ling Feng asked.

But Zhang Lan immediately vetoed it, "No, Qian Yu is at my place. Find somewhere else."

"Got it."

After hanging up the phone, Ling Feng looked up at the stairs and decided not to greet Mo Jiaolan; he would speak to her after tonight.

So he went downstairs and left, hailing a taxi to a nearby hotel and booking a room.

Ten minutes later, Zhang Lan arrived gracefully.

"Still haven’t cooled down?"

Seeing Ling Feng’s face, she chuckled softly and sat down.

"So despicable. Is this the Luo Family’s style of doing things?" Ling Feng asked.

"Hey, don’t tar everyone with the same brush, okay? I’m not that kind of person!" Zhang Lan gave him a look.

Ling Feng laughed and wrapped an arm around her shoulder, "Of course, I’m not talking about you, I’m talking about those men in the Luo Family!"

"Don’t jump to conclusions; this might not necessarily be Luo Qianyang’s doing!" Zhang Lan leaned against his shoulder and said.

"Who else could it be if not him?" Ling Feng was startled.

"Based on my understanding of him, he would never do something so brainless!" Zhang Lan stated.

Ling Feng wasn’t dull and caught on quickly, "You mean, someone designed this, deliberately creating a confrontation between him and me?"

"It’s possible, but not certain," Zhang Lan nodded.

"I don’t seem to have any enemies, and if I do, they’re minor characters, not the type to go to such lengths." Ling Feng pondered with a frown.

"Some people consider you an enemy, while you see them as friends. It’s not uncommon, you just haven’t noticed!" Zhang Lan said.

Her words only deepened Ling Feng’s confusion, as he thought over everyone he knew, unable to guess who it might be.

"Alright, I’m just giving you a heads-up. Don’t rush to find Luo Qianyang, observe for a few days first," Zhang Lan advised.

Ling Feng looked at her, "If I confirm it’s Luo Qianyang, what will you do?"

Zhang Lan’s eyes flashed with struggle, and she bit her lip, "Then... it would be very difficult for me..."

"I understand!" Ling Feng nodded, "If there truly is a battle, I won’t tell you, so you won’t need to choose sides."

"Is Mo Jiaolan that important to you?" Zhang Lan couldn’t help but ask.

"Of course, just like you, both are my untouchable scales!" Ling Feng said, tightening his hold on her shoulders.

Despite feeling a bit sour inside, Zhang Lan felt warmth, leaning her face against his chest.

The two were silent for a while before, as if telepathically synchronized, one tilted their head up, and the other down, coming together in a kiss.

...

...

The next morning, Zhang Lan slipped away quietly, going back to the mines in Shiliu Village.

While Ling Feng was still in bed, Chen Yuhe’s call came through, "You didn’t come back all night, where were you?"

"Had some things to take care of. How is Jiaolan now?" Ling Feng inquired.

"She’s fine. Just received a notice from the police—the person was caught!" Chen Yuhe reported.

Ling Feng sat up swiftly, "Is he alive or dead?"

"Alive, of course. He’s being taken to the police station right now. There might be results today, depending on whether that person keeps quiet."

Relieved, Ling Feng replied, "Got it, I’ll head to the hotel right away, we’ll talk when we meet."

Half an hour later, in the hotel lobby, he ran into Wang Laogen, who had also just arrived.

"Your guy wasn’t very reliable, that kid still got nabbed by the cops!" Ling Feng said.

Wang Laogen gave a slight smile, "Let’s talk upstairs."

Seeing Wang Laogen’s unperturbed demeanor left Ling Feng curious, so he followed him to Mo Jiaolan’s office.

Once inside, Wang Laogen spoke, "I’ve already interrogated the guy. He has nothing to do with the Luo Family, which is why I handed him over to the police."

"So it wasn’t them!" Ling Feng exclaimed.

"What? You already figured someone was using a borrowed knife to strike?" Wang Laogen asked.

"The problem isn’t complex; if it’s not the Luo Family, then it’s someone else," Ling Feng shrugged.

"You’re right. This kid is actually the son of someone you know," Wang Laogen said with a smile.

"Who?"

Ling Feng and Mo Jiaolan and the others asked in unison.

"A Fu by surname."

"It’s his son!"

Ling Feng and Mo Jiaolan suddenly understood!

The situation wasn’t complicated. Old Fu, who had been arrested for slander, had his son seeking revenge, hence his choosing this method to retaliate against them.

As for Luo Qianyang going abroad, now it seemed it was merely a coincidence.

Hearing this outcome, Ling Feng actually felt a sense of loss.

If he had confirmed that Luo Qianyang was behind the mischief, he would have been full of fight, ready to clash with the adversary to the very end. But he had no interest in dealing with Old Fu’s son and decided it was better to let the police handle it.
