The Greatest Village Doctor In The World-Chapter 1851 - 1850: Picking Fruit
Ling Feng let out an "oh" and then laughed, saying, "Naturally, since I’m here, I can’t just stand by and watch!"
Li Tong nodded and said nothing more.
The helicopter flew in the air for over three hours and had now entered the dense canopy of the Primitive Forest.
Seeing the lush greenery below, Ling Feng recalled the incidents that occurred when searching for the City of Gold with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in America.
However, this time it’s different from last time; they don’t even know what the target is.
As they ventured deeper into the jungle, the aircraft finally hovered over an emerald-green lake and began to descend slowly.
This spot was relatively open, with a clearing by the lake suitable for an aircraft to land, which was why the landing point was selected here.
After landing, everyone jumped off the helicopter, switching to another, which also landed slowly.
Once everyone was on the ground, they unloaded the goods from the helicopter, and both helicopters ascended directly, starting their return journey.
There were over ten people on site, aside from Ling Feng, Li Tong, and Nina; the rest were Her’s people.
After packing up, everyone left the lake’s edge and began heading deeper into the jungle.
Ling Feng remained silent along the way, using his Divine Sense to sweep the surroundings, checking the environment.
There were plenty of wild animals in the jungle, but most were not aggressive.
Occasionally, a few wild wolves appeared, but they posed no threat to the group.
Ling Feng noticed some poisonous insects in the jungle; these needed attention. Although a bite from them wasn’t fatal, it was very uncomfortable.
They pressed on until two in the afternoon, when the team finally stopped.
A small river was here, its water babbling melodiously.
Her was carried alternately by two of his subordinates along the way. Now, with his wheelchair set, he sat down again and said to Ling Feng and Li Tong, "Gentlemen, today’s journey ends here!"
Ling Feng looked at him, "How much farther ahead?"
"At least twenty kilometers. That area is called the Forest of Terror by the local tribes, and it’s very dangerous there. We’ll camp here today and prepare well for tomorrow." Her said.
Ling Feng thought for a moment, nodded, and said, "Alright, for everyone’s safety, let’s stop here for now."
He wasn’t in a hurry; since Her didn’t want to proceed, they might as well stay!
Everyone began setting up tents, and Ling Feng didn’t need to help, so he used his Divine Sense to survey the surroundings before striding into the nearby woods.
Nina saw and hurried to follow, "Mr. Ling, where are you going?"
"There’s a fruit tree not far ahead. I’m going to take a look." Ling Feng said.
"Then I’ll go with you!"
Nina said quickly, catching up.
Ling Feng didn’t mind, nodded, and continued walking forward.
Not far away, Li Tong watched the backs of the two, her eyes flashed.
She didn’t know what she was feeling; seeing Nina with Ling Feng so affectionately made her uncomfortable.
Ling Feng and Nina entered deeper into the forest, not long before a towering giant tree appeared before them.
This tree was so large that three people might not be able to encircle it with their arms; its crown reached into the sky. Among its branches, some large purple fruits hung.
Nina was stunned and asked in surprise, "What is this?"
"You’ll find out soon enough!"
Ling Feng said and leaped upward!
The tree, more than ten meters tall, posed no challenge for him; he jumped right to the middle of the crown.
He plucked a few fruits, gently squeezing them to reveal the flesh inside.
Ling Feng smiled, "To think the yield in this forest is quite decent!"
He then tossed the fruits down, saying to Nina, "Try them first; later, use a tool to pick more to take back for everyone!"
"Oh."
Nina, curious, picked up a fruit and took a light lick of the white flesh.
She was taken aback by the sweet, sour taste with a unique fragrance and immediately began eating heartily.
Delicious and juicy, after finishing one, Nina opened another before looking up to ask, "What exactly are these fruits?"
"Mangosteen, haven’t you had it before?"
Ling Feng asked while picking the fruit.
Nina shook her head, "I’ve heard of it, but never eaten it!"
"Uh, really?"
Ling Feng felt speechless, thinking, "You’re a professor, an archaeologist, and haven’t even eaten this?"
"And an American at that. Even in Huaxia, it’s rare for someone not to have tasted mangosteen by now."
But he refrained from more questions, continued picking, and tossing down the fruits until a pile accumulated on the ground.
Nina happily gathered the fruits. Initially here for an adventure, the unexpected bounty felt like picking fruit in an orchard to her.
Ling Feng didn’t pick too many; despite the tree being laden with fruit, they couldn’t eat much all at once, so picking more was pointless.
He soon jumped back to the ground to help Nina gather the fruit.
Right after they finished, Li Tong arrived.
Seeing them with a large bag of fruit, she was a bit surprised and asked, "What are these?"
"After-dinner fruit!"
Ling Feng grinned and continued, "It’s pretty strange to find fruit in such a deep forest."
"Oh, let’s head back; Mr. Her wants to talk."
Li Tong said, turning to walk back.
Ling Feng didn’t know what it was about, catching up to ask, "Weren’t we supposed to camp here? What’s he planning now?"
"He hasn’t said, possibly planning tomorrow’s operations ahead of time." Li Tong replied coolly.
"What’s there to plan about, just get to the destination and look around!"
Ling Feng laughed, appearing nonchalant.
Upon their return, several tents were already set up by the river, and Her was seated in a wheelchair, a small table before him with steaming coffee served.
Seeing Ling Feng return with fruit, Her smiled, "Mr. Ling, you have quite the spirit!"
"I’m bored anyway!"
Ling Feng laughed, dropping the bag filled with mangosteen, before asking, "Mr. Her, what did you want to discuss?"
"Indeed!"
Her nodded, signaling his subordinates to bring a folding chair. As Ling Feng sat down, he said, "I know Mr. Ling’s identity, and I’m very grateful for your help this time!"
"No need to be so formal, Mr. Her."
Ling Feng chuckled, "Just speak your mind!"
"Alright!"
Her laughed and continued, "Although we have no clue what the destination holds, it’s likely something valuable or precious. I’m curious about your intentions, Mr. Ling?"
Ling Feng was taken aback, giving him a look, "Are you worried I might get greedy and fight for whatever we find?"
"Not exactly, I’m somewhat familiar with your character, Mr. Ling." Her laughed.
