The Greatest Village Doctor In The World-Chapter 166: Entering the Mountain to Search for Treasure
Six hundred a day was a bit of a pain for Ling Feng.
But since he had already agreed, he couldn’t go back on his word, so he nodded, "That’s right, a deal is a deal!"
"That’ll do. What do you need my help with?" asked Xun Qianqian.
Ling Feng chuckled inwardly, this girl must have been obsessed with money; she asked about the price before asking what the work entailed. It seemed that as long as the price was right, she was willing to do anything!
"I need to go into the mountain to find something, but I’m not familiar with this area, so I need a guide!" Ling Feng said.
"Oh, that’s easy, I’ve been to these mountains almost every day since I was a kid, I’m the perfect person for the job!" Xun Qianqian nodded.
Then she turned to pat the back seat of the motorcycle, "Hop on, let’s go back to my place first!"
"You’re taking me?" Ling Feng asked.
"Who else? I can’t bear to let you ride Little Hei!" said Xun Qianqian.
Ling Feng was taken aback; he hadn’t expected her to name her motorcycle, a rather unique hobby indeed.
Although it felt odd being escorted by a girl, since she was unwilling, he could not insist, so he got on the motorcycle.
"Hold tight, I won’t be responsible if you fall off!" Xun Qianqian revved the engine, creating a loud roar.
Ling Feng eyed her back, hesitatingly reaching out his hand.
Since they were not familiar with each other, he felt it was inappropriate to encircle her waist directly, so he opted to just grab the corner of her camouflage jacket instead.
"Really? If I speed up, you’re going to fly off backward. Wrap your arms around my waist; just keep your hands behaved!" Xun Qianqian glanced back at him with a scowl.
Ling Feng thought to himself, this is ridiculous!
Since you’re insisting, why would I hold back?
So, he wrapped his arms around Xun Qianqian’s waist.
"Vroom!"
The motorcycle roared off into the distance! 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"What a ride, she handles this bike fiercer than a man!" Ling Feng mused to himself.
Ten minutes later, they arrived at a small village at the foot of a mountain.
The motorcycle drove straight into a courtyard, and Xun Qianqian turned off the engine, "Get off, we’re at my house."
Ling Feng saw it was a very typical country home, with only three tile houses, a small vegetable garden, and a water well in the courtyard.
Following Xun Qianqian into the house, Ling Feng saw no one around and asked curiously, "Where are your parents?"
"They’ve gone to the city to work, usually it’s just me at home."
"Ah? And they’re okay with that?" Ling Feng asked, curious.
Xun Qianqian looked at him puzzled, "Why wouldn’t they be?"
Ling Feng thought about it; she was a tomboy, so probably no one in the village would dare to bother her.
So, he smiled, "Nothing, just asking."
"Have a seat and tell me, where do you want to go?" Xun Qianqian asked.
"I brought a map, can you take a look for me?" Ling Feng took out a printed map from his backpack and handed it to her.
After examining it for a moment, Xun Qianqian bit her lip, a pondering look on her face, "You want to go here?"
"Yes, do you know the way?" Ling Feng asked.
"Of course I know, but I’m afraid we won’t be able to return in a day!" Xun Qianqian said.
Ling Feng nodded, "I know, I’m mentally prepared for that. I just wasn’t sure if it was convenient for you."
"That’s no problem for me, I can stay in the mountains for a few days!"
Xun Qianqian said nonchalantly, standing up and heading out, "Sit tight, let me pack up and we can set off."
"Alright!"
Ling Feng was very pleased with her efficiency.
A few minutes later, Xun Qianqian returned with a backpack, "Let’s go."
When they got to the courtyard, there was a basket on the ground filled with various items. Ling Feng asked, "Are we taking this, too?"
"Of course, food, drinks, and a moisture-proof mat for sleeping. Aren’t you from the countryside too? Don’t you have even this basic knowledge?" Xun Qianqian’s big eyes were full of confusion.
Ling Feng nearly choked, smiling wryly as he shook his head, "I just didn’t expect you to be so thoughtful."
"Hmm, carry it on your back; we should find a camp before it gets dark."
"What? Me carry it?" Ling Feng was stunned.
Xun Qianqian glanced at him, "Otherwise? You’re a grown man; are you really going to let me carry something so heavy?"
"Alright then."
Ling Feng, having no choice, stepped forward to pick up the back-basket—it felt like it weighed sixty or seventy pounds, and he couldn’t help but complain, "Did you put rocks in here?"
"How could I? Can’t even carry this much weight, and you call yourself a man?" asked Xun Qianqian.
"You..."
Ling Feng was completely out of temper. He was used to teasing girls, but this was the first time he found himself at a loss for words because of one.
With the back-basket on, the two of them left and headed straight into the mountains.
They had just begun ascending when Xun Qianqian suddenly remembered something, "Right, what are you looking for, anyway?"
"Treasure!"
"What kind of treasure? Is it valuable?" Xun Qianqian’s eyes immediately widened.
Ling Feng looked at her, "I’m not sure yet, have to find it to know!"
"Oh~~"
Xun Qianqian drew out her response, her eyes rolling about, "Then..."
"The commission I’m paying is already high, so don’t get any other ideas, okay?" Ling Feng guessed her thoughts and immediately cut her off.
"Hmph, stingy!" Xun Qianqian rolled her eyes.
The two stopped talking and continued up the mountain, quickly passing through a dense forest on a slope to reach the peak.
While resting, Xun Qianqian couldn’t let it go and asked, "If the treasure is valuable, how much could it sell for?"
Ling Feng, feeling helpless, looked at her, "Are you obsessed with money? Are you that desperate for cash?"
"Of course, billionaires never think they have enough money; they’re always thinking about how to make more. I can’t compare to them, so naturally, I need to figure out how to make money!" Xun Qianqian declared as a matter of course.
"You certainly are determined, but you’re too impatient. I really don’t know what that thing is, only after finding it can I tell you!" Ling Feng said.
"Then let’s not waste time, keep moving!" Xun Qianqian stood up.
"I’m not tired at all actually, I only suggested we rest fearing you couldn’t keep up!" Ling Feng said with a wry smile.
"Really? Thanks for the thought, but don’t worry about me, I won’t get tired no matter how far we go!"
With that, Xun Qianqian stepped forward and started walking.
Ling Feng followed her, thinking it would be great if that were true. If she started complaining about sore legs halfway, he wasn’t going to help!
Surprisingly, the two trekked through the wilderness for a long time, and as the sun gradually moved west, Xun Qianqian really didn’t rest once!
And even though Ling Feng was carrying the heavy back-basket, she never complained about being tired. Instead, she seemed to admire him a bit.
"We can’t go any further; there’s a cave ahead. Let’s stay there for the night," Xun Qianqian pointed ahead and suggested.
Ling Feng was surprised, "The sun hasn’t set yet, what’s the rush?"
"If we pass up this place, there won’t be any other caves further on. Do you want to sleep out in the open?" she asked.
"Well, alright, you’re the guide after all, we’ll do as you say!" Ling Feng could only agree.
Not far ahead, they indeed found a dark cavernous mouth.
Upon entering, they discovered the cave was quite spacious and there was a breeze blowing through, suggesting there was a passage connected to the outside.
"Put the stuff down, let’s go get some dry wood. If we’re staying in a cave overnight, we can’t go without a fire!" said Xun Qianqian.
Ling Feng was no novice; he understood this all too well, so after putting down the back-basket, he turned to gather firewood.
By the time the sun had set and the sky had grown darker, the crackling campfire was already ablaze.
Dinner was roasted steamed buns. Although simple, after a day’s journey, Ling Feng found them quite delicious.
Watching him eat, Xun Qianqian suddenly laughed, "You’re eating like you haven’t had a full meal in ages!"
"Aren’t you hungry?" Ling Feng shot back at her.
"Hungry doesn’t mean you forget your manners when eating!" Xun Qianqian retorted.
Ling Feng was speechless, "If I had only met you a minute ago, hearing this, I would’ve thought you were a lady!"
