The Grants: Choosing One Between The Two-Chapter 84: Summers Says He Doesn’t Like Dad
Summers was stunned for a moment, staring blankly at Henry Jennings, and fearfully hid in Yvette’s arms.
Yvette lowered her head nervously. "President Jennings..."
"It’s my fault..." Henry apologized first, realizing this time he had been careless. He hadn’t expected that Jayden Grant and the Bell Family would find his grandfather and act.
"Come back with me."
Yvette took a deep breath, still with her head down. "No... I won’t go back."
Henry reached out to support Yvette, but she withdrew, and he saw estrangement in her eyes.
"Is it because I didn’t protect you... or because I didn’t agree to break off the engagement with Claudia Bell?" Henry asked deeply.
Yvette said nothing, keeping her head down.
Actually, Henry knew it all.
It was just that she wasn’t important enough.
"Mom..." Summers hugged Yvette and asked quietly. "Who is he?"
Yvette’s eyes reddened as she looked tentatively at Henry.
She wasn’t sure whether Henry would acknowledge Summers.
"Summers, I’m your dad." Henry squatted in front of Summers, reaching out gently. "Sorry, I’m late."
From his perspective, Yvette was perhaps just having a short tantrum with him, thinking he could coax her back easily.
Ethan Grant, a man with serious perfectionism, wouldn’t be interested in Yvette.
Summers looked at Yvette in panic, his eyes reddening.
He had imagined countless times that his father would suddenly appear one day and say, "Summers, I’m your dad."
But when Henry appeared and apologized for being late, Summers felt like crying.
"Don’t like Dad." Summers turned his gaze away, hugging Yvette tightly.
Because Dad didn’t protect Mom.
Henry took a deep breath, looking at Yvette. "Come with me first."
Yvette, with her head down, stood up holding Summers and shook her head. "No need, President Jennings..."
She was drawing a line with Henry.
Henry felt a pang in his heart, watching Yvette leaving with the child.
Rubbing his eyebrows, Henry cursed the Bell Family in his heart and quickly followed.
He had worked so hard to have her willing to stay by his side, only for those bastards to ruin it.
"Yvette, let me give you a ride." Henry chased after them, trying to carry Summers. "Mom’s too tired, let Dad carry you, okay?"
Summers hesitated for a moment, quietly asking, "Can you protect Mom?"
Henry was taken aback, looking into the little one’s eyes.
This little one’s eyes were so much like Yvette’s from before, pure and innocent.
"I can," Henry nodded.
This time, it was an accident.
He wouldn’t make the same mistake again.
"Then will you marry my mom?" Summers sniffled and asked quietly.
Henry’s steps faltered, and he said nothing.
Yvette held Summers tightly, quickly explaining. "The child is still young... he doesn’t understand."
"I understand. Stephen Sinclair said no man would marry Mom, saying she’s a thief who steals other people’s dads... but that’s not true, someone will marry Mom." Summers cried out, refusing to believe Stephen’s words.
That’s why he fought with Stephen Sinclair.
In fact, when Stephen bullied him, he never fought back, fearing to cause trouble for his uncle and mom.
But when Stephen spoke ill of his mom, he lost control.
Henry froze on the spot, rubbing his eyebrows.
He couldn’t marry Yvette...
Except for that title, he was willing to give Yvette anything else.
Yvette looked back at Henry, unsure of what she was expecting, perhaps a moment of delusion, hoping to give Summers a complete home.
But deep down, she knew very well that Henry would not marry her; it was all her wishful thinking.
Saying nothing, Yvette stood at the bus stop holding Summers, waiting for the bus.
Henry followed Yvette, wanting to say something but swallowing his words several times.
The bus arrived, and Yvette boarded it, with Henry following.
In Henry’s memory, he had never... been on a bus.
The bus was a bit crowded, and fearing Yvette would be too tired holding the child, Henry offered to carry Summers.
Not wanting Mom to be too tired, Summers reached out to Henry.
Yvette hesitated for a moment before handing Summers over to Henry.
The bus braked sharply, causing Yvette to almost fall, but Henry caught her.
"Hey, young lady, come over here and sit with the child. You three as a family are really good-looking," an elderly lady chuckled, offering Yvette a seat.
"No need... no thank you, ma’am." Yvette waved her hand.
The lady smiled, "It’s nice to be young. The kid’s really cute."
Henry didn’t explain, politely smiling while holding Summers.
Yvette lowered her head, quietly explaining, "We’re not a family of three..."
Marriage, giving Summers a complete home—these were things Yvette didn’t even dare to think about.
Her life had already been ruined; no one would be willing to marry her.
Nor would anyone willingly be a stepfather to Summers.
She didn’t want to find someone randomly and let Summers suffer.
About Henry, she had fantasized—even knowing it was unrealistic—but she had thought, even if Henry had no feelings for her, if he could provide Summers with a complete home, she’d do anything.
She no longer yearned for so-called love.
She wouldn’t love anyone else, and no one would come to love her.
The elderly woman said nothing more and got off at her stop.
Yvette glanced at Ben Ziegler, who was driving along with the bus, and spoke helplessly. "President Jennings, there’s no need for this..."
What was this? The wealthy experiencing life?
"If you’re unwilling to return to Montville with me, then stay in Meridia. I’ll arrange everything, and I’ll be here with you and the child for half a month each month. You can contact me or Ben anytime you need something."
Henry spoke softly, and when Yvette reached her stop, he got off the bus with Summers. "This is the access card to The Imperial Villa. You and Summers can stay here. Keep the card I gave you..."
Yvette looked at the card Henry handed her.
He certainly was generous with her.
If Henry didn’t have a fiancée, she might really degenerate into becoming his mistress.
"Henry, I said I won’t be anyone’s mistress. That’s a principle..." Yvette shook her head, reaching out for Summers. "President Jennings, we need to catch the subway. You should go."
"Yvette!" Henry was a bit anxious. "Do you really have to be so stubborn, cling to this idea? I told you I would give you everything I could."
"What if I said I just want a title, to give Summers a title, for you to marry me?" Yvette turned back, looking at Henry.
Henry clenched his fingers, frowning in place. "Yvette... I told you not to be greedy."
Yvette smiled and turned away.
Yes, she was too greedy.
Six years ago, who forced her, ignoring her pleas...
Who ruined her, who gave her Summers.
Looking up at the sky, Yvette tried hard to keep her tears from flowing out.
What did these grievances count for?
Nothing at all.
"Yvette!" Henry unwillingly chased after her, but the subway station was too crowded, with large crowds.
Yvette, holding the child, had already disappeared into the crowd.
Someone like Henry, who had never experienced the subway or bus, was at a loss, unable to find Yvette and Summers.
