Nighttime...

Jennifer Snowhail woke up at the middle of the night with a drowsy head.
Someone was ringing the bell.
Jennifer subconsciously looked up at the clock and saw it was beyond 1 AM. She raised her brow in concern.
βWho would come so late at night and why?β
She got up and was about to step out to the living room. That was when she saw her reflection in the mirror, she was only wearing a casual nightgown.
It was late and her house, which was why she was so easy.
She frowned again at that and wore a coat to hide her figure. On the way outside, she picked up a wooden bat and wore her Blue Sigmat ring.
Nowadays she heard rumors of bandits coming in late at night, acting like they needed help and when the door opens... bang! The owner gets robbed. If the case was of a woman then itβs even worse. She would be raped and robbed at the same time.
"Ring" "Ring"
The bell rang loudly and her heart quickened as she came closer to the door.
"Who is it!" She asked loudly, trying to incur courage.
"Can you open the door? I need some help."
Jenniferβs eyes widen further.
Her intuition was right!
βI am about to get raped tonight! I- I mean; I was about... I would have been...?β
She shook her head and questioned loudly, "Iβm not opening the door, get lost scoundrel!"
"Jennifer, I know we donβt have a healthy relationship. But you really shouldnβt turn away a grave man."
Jennifer was surprised at the mention of her name.
The bandits came prepared this days!
"I- I know what you people do... if you donβt leave right now, I- Iβm telling you it wonβt be good for you." Jennifer even brought out her family name, "I come from the Great House of Snowhailβs, if something happens to me, your fate will be the worst."
It became a bit quiet before she heard a low murmur.
βWhy is everyone talking about fate today, is fate really being a bitch to me right now?β
Jenniferβs brow rise, βWhat is that man talking about?β
Then he heard his voice again.
"Come on, Jennifer. You own me remember, at least open the door."
"Own you, I own you nothing bandit!" Jennifer screamed and her grip tightened on the bat, "Now if you donβt leave, I will scream and everyone will come out to beat you."
"Bandit... what the hell are you talking about?" The person said, "Iβm not whatever you think I am. Iβm Henry... iβm henry van tax, your student." The personβs voice became smaller at the mention of his name.
"Henry Van..." Jennifer lowered her bat as she slowly remembered the name, "Henry? What are you doing here?"
"Would you please for the goddessβs sake open the door first."
"Oh"
Jennifer went ahead and was about to unlock when she looked through the hidden eye. She had to check whether it was the real Henry or someone impersonating as him.
Bandits too have sigmat rings, you know.
"Bonjourno, Senorita."
"Henry, what are you doing here?" Seeing it was actually Henry at her door, she asked, "And why so late?"
"Well... uh... how do I explain?" Henry looked awkward trying to phrase out the words, "Can you... uh... grant me sanctuary?"
"Huh?"
...
After a while, I was now inside Jenniferβs home, sitting on the couch as she sat in front of me in a single chair. She was looking at me with beady eyes.
"So... how have you been?" I give a smile.
"Iβve been oka- Wait! Donβt do that." Jennifer said, "Answer my questions first-"
"Okay, before you start firing them... why donβt we have some refreshments, first?" I ask her, "What do you like, tea or coffee? I like both but prefer coffee at current moment."
"...Te-"
"Itβs beyond 1βO clock, itβs better to get some coffee to keep yourself away."
"...Alright, Iβd want some coffee then."
"I would want some as well."
"..."
"..."
"Youβre not going to make it, are you." Her eagle like sharp eyes aimed.
"Hey, itβs your house. I canβt go around invading your space."
Jennifer sighed as she got up, muttering, βBut youβd make me get you coffee.β
"With four sugar cubes."
"Four?" She turned around in exasperation, "Why donβt I add four more?"
"If it doesnβt bother you."
"..."
After some time, she finally brought fresh cup of coffee for us both as I take a whiff of it.
Premium Stuff
"Are you going to answer me now or do you want biscuits too."
"Well, it certainly wouldnβt-" Her face darkened instantly and I cough, "I mean, ask freely."
Jennifer sighed and took a moment to think before spraying them on me.
"Where have you been? Why did you not come to the academy all this time? Why are you here right now and why do I hear about you joining a crusade against the freaking bandit king?"
"Okay, okay, thatβs too many questions at the same time." I say and think about her questions before rearranging them in mind, "And to answer your first question, it seems you already know I was fighting the bandit king."
"Why?"
"Why, what do you mean βWhy?β The Religias House called in to help and bring a model citizen, I answered."
"Model Citizen..." Jenniferβs eyes continued staring at me as she sipped her coffee, "Letβs believe for a second, thatβs true. When did you leave then?"
"The Religias House is in Whitedon which takes 10 or more days to travel. But it seemed that you were already there, before they even called for help, so what is it?"
"Did you go there because they called for help or were you there for a different reason?"
I was quiet for a moment before smiling wide, "Youβre quite smart, Jennifer. I have to give a point for figuring it out."
"Of course, they donβt keep me at the academy so perverts like you could watch my back while I write on the board."
I frown, "This is the second time a woman has called me pervert today besides me doing nothing to them. And about the back part... my eyes were quite sensitive to white that day so I was looking at you."
"I remember wearing a white dress."
"But your underwear was black."
Jenniferβs face reddened as she gritted her teeth, "You were looking at my underwear!"
"Forget about that, you should be glad that young folk like me are looking at you instead of the board."
"..." Jennifer was speechless; she was angry about his behavior but couldnβt say anything to argue against.
She shook her head, not letting him get to her, "Alright, no nonsense now, tell me why are you here?"
"I was wondering if I could stay here for a while."
"Why?" Her eyes scrutinized me, "What did you do?"
"Nothing illegal."
"Really?"
"Absolutely" I seriously nod, "It was something very legal but it ended up giving me huge trouble."
"How huge?"
"Itβs better if you not know."
"So let me get this straight." Jennifer put her cup down and clasped her hands, "You donβt come to class for over a month, go somewhere to fight a war, come at my house deep at midnight and donβt even tell me the cause of it?"
"Now that you say it like that, it indeed sounds like Iβm fucking with you." I laugh at the awkward conclusion.
"..."
"Alright, Iβll tell you." I sigh and look at her seriously.
"I killed someone."
Jennifer inhaled sharply.
"But it was totally legal, I promise."
"..."
Jennifer wasnβt sure if she would wake up from this nightmare if she pinched herself.
Seeing Henryβs shameless smile made it even harder.
