Soon, the voices grew closer to the courtyard as Ah’Luo, Yun Shu’s maid entered with Yun Shu literary hanging on her shoulder, speaking nonsense and clinging on the maid due to her drunken state.

"Did you return, My Lord?" Bai Yunxian’s expression softened as he called out, bringing both their attention to him.

Yun Shu tilted her head to the side, observing the woman closely.

"Ah’Luo, who is that beauty? What is she doing in my courtyard? Did my brother send another girl here again?"

Ah’luo didn’t answer her question. Instead, she just tossed her onto Bai Yunxian, uttering a few words, "This is your wife that you found and bought home."

"Huh? Is that true? Did I ever bring this kind of sickly beauty back home?" Yun Shu looked to be confused, staring at Bai Yunxian in a daze. It was as if she couldn’t believe who he was, or if she really did something so crazy, but at the same time, Bai Yunxian felt a shiver run down his spine under her intense stare.

’Does he really not recognize me?’

"My lord, don’t you remember who I am?" Bai Yunxian hesitated as he asked in a low voice.

Yun Shu sways slightly, almost making Ah’Luo to fall off of her balance. But a pair of strong arms held her up firmly as she was taken into a warm embrace. Yun Shu looks up at Bai Yunxian, grinning sheepishly but her eyes are slightly unfocused.

"Wife, I missed you so much." Yun Shu pounced on Bai Yunxian, smiling.

Yun Shu buries her face on the crook of Bai Yunxian’s neck, inhaling the serene and beautiful fragrance he gave off. Wrapping her arms around him, she pulled him closer, feeling the warmth of his body through the thin clothes he wore.

"You smell so good, wife." She murmurs against his skin, "I wish I could hold you like this forever..."

Bai Yunxian stiffened as his breathing turned quick, the embrace came off as something quite unexpected.

"Mhmm, wife. You are wearing thin clothes, you’ll catch a cold if you stay like this..." Yun Shu murmurs again, still nuzzling with him.

"Young Lady, please take care of Young Master, I’ll leave him to you." Ah’Luo understands the atmosphere between them as she didn’t give Bai Yunxian a chance to refuse, turning back and straightly leaving the courtyard, leaving only the two of them.

Speechless, Bai Yunxian looks at the man nuzzling on him like a stray kitten, and sighs, shaking his head.

He didn’t know Yun Shu also had a side like this to him, these Yun brothers are really giving him a lot of surprises tonight.

Bai Yunxian carries Yun Shu by holding her arm effortlessly, helping her lie down on the bed inside the room. But Yun Shu continues to cling onto him, not letting him leave as she pulls him down to sit on the bed, running her hand on his hair as she smiled apologetically, "I’m sorry I was gone for so long," She says as her voice seemed quite, "I missed you so much, I couldn’t focus on anything else. I just had to come back to you."

Bai Yunxian’s eyes showed a swirl of emotions as he looked down at her flushed face, her groggy voice which was hoarse after drinking so much, yet it felt like the medious sound of guzheng.

’Was he worried I might feel alone all by myself?’

His eyes softened as he looked down to Yun Shu, saying in a soft voice, "It’s alright. I know you have work you must do, My Lord. I really don’t mind."

She nods obediently, which Bai Yunxian almost found to be cute and brushes his fingers through her soft hair.

But he restrains himself fearing that she might remember it the next day. However, unlike him, Yun Shu doesn’t let go of his hand, her grip firm on him as she leans her face on his hand, enjoying the cool radiating from them.

She looks up to him with a dopey smile on her face as she whispers against his skin, "You are so good to me," Her voice a bit slurred, "I don’t deserve you..."

Bai Yunxian paused there for a moment.

’Lord Yun didn’t deserve me?’

’No, it’s more like I am the one who doesn’t deserve him...’

Even so, those words made Bai Yunxian feel his heart melting, as he looked down at the person lying next to him affectionately.

"My Lord, that’s not right. You are always so kind and caring for me, rather, it is I who doesn’t deserve you..."

Bai Yunxian felt the hold on his hand tighten as Yun Shu squeezed it, saying softly, "Don’t say that. You are always perfect, it’s me who’s the lucky one."

Bai Yunxian felt heat work its way up to his face as he blushed red, not replying to anything. After a while, he spoke up slowly, "How is that? As far as I can tell, I don’t know how to do anything properly, always messing up everything. And I’m weak, always crying and you end up rescuing me. Obviously, I’m no better."

Yun Shu opened her eyes as she looked at Bai Yunxian, her gaze filled with tenderness and affection. She opened her mouth as she spoke in a soft voice while playing with his hair, "You’re the most caring, compassionate person I have ever met."

She kissed the tip of his hair as she breathed in the fragrance of his hair, "You always put others before yourself, and you are always trying to make things better. You are a hardworking, yet gentleman. You are strong, yet at the same time, you are so fragile that it makes me feel as if you would be blown away with a little wind. I can only see the good in you, Xian xian."

Yun Shu let go of his hair as she wrapped her arms around him, pulling Bai Yunxian down to make him lie next to her as she wrapped her arms around him into a hug, to hold him close.

Usually, Yun Shu has never been so close and affectionate before, even if they were, she always kept a certain limit to body contact between them.

But today’s overly affectionate touch was becoming something overwhelming for Bai Yunxian, as he felt his heart beat quicken the more Yun Shu became intimate to him, holding him close while whispering sweet nothings to his ears.

Is this how it feels like to be a normal couple?

Even if it was like this, Bai Yunxian knew that Yun Shu acted like this because only she was too drunk to think anything straight, and he was a man in disguise of a woman. There is no way Yun Shu will act like this if he were to be sane.

This thought of his suddenly baffled Bai Yunxian as it occurred to him, was he jealous for not being a woman?

If it’s like this, does it mean that he himself also wanted something like this?

Yun Shu also noticed the way his heart beat so fast and his blushing face that showed how nervous and ashamed Bai Yunxian was, it only increased her desire to tease him more.

Her hand cupped his chin as she made Bai Yunxian look up to her again, holding him still to make him meet her gaze, "What? Why are you feeling ashamed? I didn’t say anything bad to you, did I? I love just the way you are, and it’s nothing to be ashamed of."

As Yun Shu continued, she pulled Bai Yunxian even closer, resting her chin on top of his head, "You are handsome, strong and perfect. Even if I know you have a past you can’t tell anyone, know that I’m always here, by your side. We can work together and get you over that dark past, to head towards a bright, beautiful future together."

Yun Shu was drunk, but every word coming out of her mouth was heartfelt and sincere. She held Bai Yunxian tightly in her arms, without any intention to let go. "I don’t care how much you cry."

"I don’t care how vulnerable and scared you are either. Just know that I’m always present for you, right here and will be in the future, you have nothing to be afraid of."

As Bai Yunxian heard Yun Shu’s words, something felt hard in his chest. Because they were the words, deep down in his heart, he wished to hear from someone so desperately.
