THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 417: Hello, Gorgeous, We Meet Again
"Steffan..." she whispered again in a breathless voice filled with need as she gripped his shoulders and pulled him closer.
She had never wanted Steffan the way she did right now and was ready to give herself to him right here and now.
Steffan’s lips returned to hers, the kiss urgent and full of the longing that had built up during their time apart.
His hands caressed her, pulling her even closer, as if he couldn’t bear to let her go.
She reached out to Steffan’s trousers and just as she was about to unbuckle his belt, a soft knock sounded at the door.
They froze and for a moment, neither of them moved, and their ragged breath was the only sound that could be heard in the room.
They exchanged a glance... they were both caught between the frustration of being interrupted and the amusement of how absurd the timing was.
"Did you hear that?" Lauren whispered.
Steffan let out a low groan as he rested his forehead against hers. "Of all the times..." he muttered in frustration.
He was clearly annoyed by the interruption and was reluctant to pull away, but the knock came again, slightly louder this time, forcing him to step back.
Lauren quickly adjusted her blouse and smoothed down her hair as she tried to regain her composure.
When he saw her hurried actions and the beautiful blush on her face, Steffan’s expression softened and he couldn’t help but smile.
"You look like a comic delicacy right now," he teased and got a jab in his ribs.
"Ouch! Do you plan to kill me?"
Before she could respond, the door handle turned, then it opened slightly, and a head peeked in.
The person at the door looked slightly apologetic as he saw the flushed woman in the room. Although she had done a quick reset, her hair was still a little disheveled and he had a rough guess of what he had just interrupted.
"Sorry to interrupt, Dr Steffan, Lauren... but Dr Sullivan asked me to deliver these forms to you, before you left."
Steffan nodded, "Right. Thank you, Dr Martin," he smiled politely as he stepped forward to take the forms from the junior doctor.
Dr Martin gave a curt nod to Lauren , whose cheeks were still slightly pink before returning his gaze to Steffan. "I’ll, uh... let you two get back to it," he said awkwardly before quickly closing the door and disappearing.
As soon as the door clicked shut, Steffan let out a chuckle and turned back to Lauren, a mischievous grin spreading across his face.
"Well, that killed the mood," he said though the hunger in his eyes seemed to return with the sound of the door closing.
Lauren laughed, shaking her head. "Just your luck."
Steffan stepped closer, pulling her back into his arms. "Are you sure it’s just my luck?" he murmured as he brushed her ear with his lips.
Lauren smiled and leaned into his touch. "Stop fooling around, Steffan and let’s get out of here first. I don’t want further embarrassment," she scolded but there wasn’t a trace of anger in her voice.
"Says the person that started the whole thing," Steffan smirked as he released her.
He went to a drawer and pulled it open. After rummaging around for a few seconds, he found what he was looking for.
"Alright, let’s go," he said with such enthusiasm that caused Lauren’s antennae to prick.
"Alright. But where?" Lauren asked suspiciously, she wanted to be prepared this time around.
"You’ll see," Steffan said mysteriously and opened the office door for her.
Lauren shrugged and followed. Maybe it was Steffan’s enthusiasm, but she kind of felt excited as she followed him out of the hospital.
Luckily, as they left the hospital, the crowd who had earlier gathered to welcome Steffan’s second return from the dead was gone, allowing them to slip out unnoticed.
Twenty minutes later, the car pulled up in front of an exquisite restaurant.
"We’re here," Steffan said and Lauren, who had been checking something on her phone, looked up and froze the moment she saw where they were.
"Steffan?" Lauren called out in confusion.
"Yes, babe?" Steffan answered cheerfully from her side of the door which he was holding open. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
"What are we doing here?"
"So you won’t get down until I answer that question?" Steffan teased her.
"I didn’t say that ," Lauren muttered and stepped out of the car.
Steffan offered her his arm and she hooked her right hand through it as they made their way into the restaurant.
When they got inside, the place was empty and none of the diners could be found anywhere.
Usually by this time of the day, the place should have been filled up. There was a huge possibility that Steffan had booked the whole place but why and why this particular restaurant?
Lauren felt something was not just right but she couldn’t place it. She turned to glance at Steffan and that mysterious smile was back on as he met her gaze without slowing his steps.
As they stepped further into the restaurant, they were greeted by two waiters who led them to their seats.
But just before they got to their seat which also left a nostalgic feeling in Lauren’s head,
Steffan stopped abruptly.
"Hello, gorgeous. We meet again."
Lauren’s eyes widened in shock, staring into Steffan’s as her mind raced.
She barely had time to react when Steffan caught her waist in an embrace and captured her lips in a kiss that left her breathless.
While she was still trying to piece everything together, he pulled away and traced the outline of her nose, down to her soft luscious lips then whispered again. "Please play along..."
She was too stunned to respond and her widened eyes that looked as if they would fall off any moment stared into Steffan’s amused one in a daze.
"D-do..did you r-remember?" She stuttered in disbelief. She was too afraid to believe what her mind had been hinting at since Steffan pulled up in front of that restaurant.
And his actions just now further strengthened her suspicions but she was too afraid to trust what she was beginning to suspect.
Her heart pounded so fast and hard in her chest that she was afraid they’d burst out any moment if something was not done about it.
Steffan’s gaze softened as a smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. "I do, sweetheart. I remember this place... where we had our first kiss... even if it was stolen..."
Lauren nodded dazedly. She could vividly recall that particular day.
Her parents had forced her out here on a blind date and she had been wondering how to politely turn the guy down without causing a scene.
In the middle of the dinner, she excused herself to go to the ladies where she spent over twenty minutes, hoping that by the time she got back the guy would be pissed off and she’d use that opportunity to feel him off.
But just before she got to her seat, she was suddenly caught in an embrace and a kiss forced on her lips by a stranger.
