THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 363: Find A Way To Coax Her
She had to do something fast. So the next minute she turned coquettish and tried to lean on George’s arms.
George saw the sudden change in Peggy’s expression and sneered, waiting to see what she was up to.
He didn’t have to wait long as the next minute, Peggy’s extremely soft and alluring voice sounded.
"I know you’re angry with me for not calling you for so long. But you have to understand that we’ve been so busy that we were not allowed to use our phones during the competition."
"But I promise to make it up to you after the competition," she added ambiguously, leaving the meaning to everyone’s imaginations.
"So it turned out President George was angry that Ms Carter had neglected him because of the competition?" Someone said as they saw how Peggy had apologized so sincerely.
"Yes, it’s just a misunderstanding between them."
"He might not really be angry with her, after all, he still showed up to support her so openly."
At this point George wanted so badly to unmask the but wouldn’t that mean he was going too easy on her? It better to serve the dish when it’s is hot, so he just played along for the mean time. Help her raise her ego so high that when she crashes, it would be too fatal to recover.
"I understand and I’m here now, aren’t I? But you need to go in first. The competition will soon start and you wouldn’t want to smear your hard earned image for being late. We will sort out the rest later, okay?" His voice was neither cold nor indulgent, leaving Peggy confused about his mood.
But the most important thing was that he had cleared the air that he was here for her and no one will doubt their relationship any longer.
This was also a good outcome, but she was not going to leave it at that. Before te end of today, everyone will know how important she was to George Wellington. She was going to make sure of that.
After today, Lauren would just be a small ant for her to trample upon whether she wins the competition or not. She should wait and see what it means to be a total nobody.
With this new goal in mind, Peggy headed inside with her team, her gait as light as a feather.
"Boss," Dylan called out excitedly. "You never told us you were in such good terms with George Wellington."
A blush crept up Peggy face as she turned to Dylan. "Our relationship is kind of... private. And as you know me to be, I don’t flaunt my connections in order to get ahead in life."
But just now, I’ve not seen George for over two weeks because of the competition so I couldn’t control my excitement when I saw him, you understand what I mean," she asked with a knowing smile as she surveyed her surrounding. When she was sure a few ears seemed to be picking up their conversation, she continued a bit loudly.
"George and I have been close since high school and when he eventually took charge of the Wellington Group, we decided to keep things simple as I didn’t want to constantly be in the limelight by my association him. I still prefer my private life, you know."
Someone ignorant would believe she raised her voice unconscionably out of excitement but not Lauren, who had no doubt about Peggy’s purpose.
She was declaring to everyone that cared to listen that she was in a secret relationship with George.
Now that she thought of it, she suddenly remembered the phone call she received a week before the competition started.
So Peggy was that lunatic on the phone that day. No wonder, the first time she saw her, and heard her speak, she felt that her voice sounded familiar. Could this also be the reason Peggy had been targeting her?
Luckily they’ve not yet submitted their phones and she could still make a call. She gritted her teeth angrily and brought out her phone, excused herself from the group and dialed his number.
"Damn you asshole, why did you attract unnecessary trouble to me?"
George, who had just taken his seat beside Killian was taken aback at the venom in Lauren’s voice.
He turned sharply to look at Killian who had a sly smile on his face as he listened to his sister empty her liver on his foolish cousin.
"Hey, sweetheart, calm down and tell me what happened. Why are you suddenly more dangerous than a high tension cable?"
"Don’t you know the reason I’m this way?" Lauren
"How many times will I earn you never to give my number to your numerous girlfriends? Now because of what you did this time I’ve been targeted over and over again."
"Now that I think of it, did you do it Oj purpose because I remember you asking me if I encountered any problem in the competition a few days back,"
"Calm down, Ren, I can’t make sense of what you’re saying?"
"Fuck you," Lauren roared into the earpiece and hung up directly.
She could imagine the stunned look on George’s face at the moment and felt satisfied. It was good to let off unnecessary steam once in a while.
She took deep breaths to calm herself, when she was sure she looked composed enough, she headed over to the group with a gentle smile on her face.
"What did you do this time?" Killian asked George who was still staring at the blank screen.
"I think she finally found out why Peggy has been targeting her," he said helplessly.
"She seemed quite angry this time around. Goodluck on your coaxing mission," Killian said and concentrated on his iPad.
"Is that all you’re going to say?" George asked in disbelief.
"What do you want to hear? Tsk! You can’t even deal with such simple matters yourself, always roping my innocent sister in your mess. Are you still a man?" Kilian sneered and looked away.
"If I remember correctly, you once ran, hiding away in my house for a year from a woman, were you even a man then?" George threw back.
He always gave them Lauren’s number because he was too lazy to deal with those women, not because he was scared of them.
As far as he was concerned, they were not worth his one second, so he preferred using Lauren to pose as his girlfriend and sometimes secret wife to put them off. But this time around she was clearly pissed off.
I wonder what that fool had gone inside to say about us? Now that Lauren is so angry with me, I better think of a way to appease her first.
He put a call through but the call didn’t connect even after several rings.
He resorted to sending her a message.
"I’m sorry sweetheart, I’m on my knees. Can you please forgive your bestie this once?"
No reply.
"I promise to buy you lunch for two months and personally deliver it to you. How about that? Awesome right?"
Still no reply.
"How about I get you that Geisha beans you’ve been looking for?"
This message had barely dropped when he got an instant reply.
"Really? Geisha beans?! You’re such a darling."
"So am I forgiven now?"
"Did you do something wrong?"
George: "..."
