THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 352: The Latte Art Challenge
The next day Lauren and her team reported early as usual at the Expo center for the competition.
Unlike the previous day, the crowd had reduced after twenty teams were eliminated.
The remaining five teams gathered in the main hall to wait for the commencement of the task for the second day which was the Latte Art and Signature Drink Challenge.
Lauren and her teammate found their spot which had been rearranged after yesterday’s event.
They spotted Peggy and her team across the room.
Today, they had been placed immediately after Peggy’s stand but a bit farther, however it still wasn’t a perfect arrangement for Lauren who wanted to stay as far away from Peggy. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Across the room, Peggy stood with her teammate Dylan, exuding a proud confidence that made Lauren’s mouth turn up.
Her back-to-back wins had sure given her a seemingly near-legendary reputation that made her feel she was the most accomplished person in the hall, and she relished every bit of it.
Her lackey, Dylan, who had taken part in the quiz with her yesterday also mirrored her confidence.
At exactly 9am, another coordinator, different from the one that anchored the quiz yesterday, stepped onto the podium.
He was also a distinguished figure with years of experience in the coffee industry.
"Welcome back, everyone and congratulations once again for scaling through to the second stage of the competition," he said into the microphone.
"Today’s challenges are vital as we will be having two sessions.
This morning, we will begin with the Latte Art Competition. You will be judged on creativity and precision.
In the afternoon, we will move on to the Signature Drink Challenge, where your ability to create unique coffee-based beverages, creativity, flavor balance, and presentation will be judged. Good luck to you all."
Like yesterday, the team leaders and two other teammates were asked to step forward.
Lauren had already chosen Horatio, her assistant and Mia who were both excellent at innovative designs.
"Just breathe and focus," Lauren told them with a warm smile. "I know we’ve got this. Let’s make something beautiful," she said as they examined their ingredients.
Each team were separated and worked in enclosed stalls where only the judges could see what they were doing from the camera.
After about an hour, the borders were lowered one after the other as each team made their presentations.
They started with the first presentation from The Enclave which was displayed on the screen.
Their leader was Anya Adams. She chose a detailed mandala design, a challenging piece that required absolute control.
"Take your time, Anya," her teammate encouraged softly. "We’ve got this."
As Anya worked, her hands were steady, her focus razor-sharp. The mandala grew intricate and beautiful under her skillful guidance, each line and curve meticulously placed.
Her team mirrored her precision, creating equally detailed and precise designs. The judges were impressed by the level of skill and control, nodding in appreciation.
Next, the presentation from Café Ambrosia, led by Theo Marcus appeared on the screen.
They had decided to create a vibrant, multi-hued butterfly design with colored milk,
"This is going to be amazing," Theo said, his voice filled with excitement. "Let’s show them something amazing."
One member created a surreal, abstract piece, while another crafted a delicate fairy.
Next, Café Solstice Team led by Peggy appeared on the screen.
The first latte took shape under Dylan’s skilled hands, and soon, a delicate heart with angel wings emerging from the frothy surface. Next, Peggy, poured the second milk, crafting a mesmerizing rosette that bloomed beautifully, each leaf perfect in its symmetry.
Finally, the last teammate created a detailed tulip, its petals layered and elegant.
The team exchanged satisfied glances as they saw the perfect blend of what they had created and Peggy felt a surge of pride.
"Perfect, Boss Peggy," Dylan whispered, admiration clear in his voice.
"Thanks, Dylan," she said and immediately glanced at Lauren with a smug grin on her face when she saw the next team on the screen as Empress Brew.
Let’s see if you can beat our creation,’ she seemed to be saying.
However, her smug look soon turned to shock and envy when she saw the complex swan design Lauren was working on with fluid movement.
’How can she be this good?’ She had always admired that design and had tried several times to create it but always found it too complicated, but Lauren was actually working on it as if it was a piece of cake and to make it worse she didn’t even spare her a glance.
The Empress Brew team had decided to push the boundaries with a three-dimensional latte art piece. It was a risky move, but Lauren was confident in their team’s abilities after all, they had practiced it over and over during their mock competition in the shop.
"Let’s go for the phoenix," Lauren’s gentle voice sounded over the speaker. "It’s ambitious, but I know we can do it."
Lauren herself was working on a phoenix design, the bird’s wings spreading majestically across the surface of the latte. She used a combination of etching and free-pouring techniques, her hands moving with practiced ease. The end result was a stunning phoenix that seemed ready to take flight.
Mia and Horatio were equally impressive in their designs.
Mia crafted a delicate lotus flower with each petal blooming delicately from the center, while Horatio created a tranquil koi fish design.
His steady hand guided the frothy surface into a fluid motion, forming the graceful curves of the koi swimming amidst gentle ripples.
The simplicity of the fish, coupled with the delicate waves, evoked a sense of peace and balance.
The judges were visibly impressed, their murmurs of appreciation audible even amidst the hustle and bustle.
The last but not the least was Silk and Steam led by Marco.
His movements were almost dance-like as he created a dramatic dragon design which coiled and twisted across the latte, eliciting gasps from the audience.
"Watch this," Marco grinned, his eyes sparkling with excitement. He made a dramatic twirl with his hands, finishing his dragon design with a flourish. The crowd erupted in applause.
His other team member followed suit with a detailed tree of life design. As she carefully poured, she created branches that extended gracefully, intertwining and branching out with a sense of harmony and growth.
The roots were just as detailed, grounding the tree in a sense of stability and connection to the earth.
Another member, a former dancer, executed a perfect pirouette before presenting her intricate peacock design.
As the presentations were going on, the judges were captivated by the creativity and originality on display. They took notes with approving nods and excited murmurs while discussing amongst themselves.
After the works of all the teams had been presented one of the judges took the microphone to announce the results.
"Thank you all for your incredible efforts today," he began, smiling warmly. "It has been a privilege to witness such creativity and skill."
The teams stood in tense anticipation as the judge started reading out the scores.
"Now, let’s move on to the results of the Latte Art Challenge." He paused briefly, then said,
"The Enclave," he announced, "came up with 40 points."
"Impressive," Peggy turned to Dylan.
"However, it can’t be compared to our three exquisite designs," she whispered loud enough to get into everyone’s ears.
