THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 347: Let The Best Barista Win!
The sun had barely risen when Lauren and her team from Empress Brew arrived at the grand hall hosting the Golden Bean Championship.
It was exactly two weeks after they got the notice that they had qualified for the competition and finally, the D-day was here.
The air was thick with the scent of freshly brewed coffee mingling with the excitement of the gathered baristas and coffee enthusiasts.
"Here we are, team," she announced. Her voice was a blend of nerves and excitement. "Let’s find our spot and get settled."
They navigated through the bustling crowd to their allotted area, a cozy corner decorated with a name tag reading... Empress Brew.
After settling the group, Lauren left as all the leaders were expected to register their company at the front desk to secure their participation.
As she made her way back to her team, Lauren’s thoughts were interrupted when she accidentally bumped into a woman near the entrance.
The woman was beautiful, with sleek, dark hair pulled back into a tight bun, sharp features, and piercing gray eyes that seemed to be at war with the world.
She wore a tailored suit and exuded an air of someone used to having her way.
"Oh, I’m so sorry," Lauren said quickly, her face flushing with embarrassment.
The woman’s eyes narrowed slightly, a flicker of something unspoken passing through them.
"Watch where you’re going," she replied coldly, her tone clipped and unfriendly.
Lauren blinked, taken aback by the hostility. "I—I’m really sorry," she stammered again, but the woman had already turned away, her posture rigid and dismissive.
Puzzled, Lauren watched her for a moment. Although her voice sounded vaguely familiar, she was sure she had never met this woman before, thus, there was no reason for such animosity.
Shaking off the encounter, she made her way back to her team.
"Everything okay?" Horatio, Lauren’s manager, who had been discharged a week ago from the hospital, asked, noticing the slightly unsettled look on Lauren’s face.
"Yeah, just a weird encounter," Lauren replied, forcing a smile. "Let’s focus on the competition. This is our moment."
Not long after, the buzz in the hall quieted as the coordinator for the competition stepped forward onto the stage.
He was a tall, charismatic man with a warm smile and a commanding presence.
"Good morning, ladies and gentlemen," he began, his voice carrying through the hall. "We are thrilled to have so many talented baristas and coffee experts here with us today."
"I am Mr Hayes and the coordinator of this year’s competition.z"
"This is a one-week challenge designed to test every aspect of your coffee-making skills," he continued.
"From your knowledge of coffee origins to your latte art creativity, your speed in brewing to your ability to work as a team. Each day will present new challenges, and we expect nothing less than excellence from all of you."
"Remember," Mr Hayes said, his gaze sweeping across the room, "this competition is not just about winning. It’s about pushing your limits, learning from each other, and sharing your passion for coffee with the world."
"And before I step aside, I have some incredible news to share with us so that you can put in your very best."
A hush fell over the crowd as the murmurs died down to an expectant silence.
My Hayes adjusted his microphone, increasing the suspense.
"Again, I’m excited to announce that this year’s competition is sponsored by none other than Barista Royale!"
The room erupted in gasps, then fell into stunned silence.
Barista Royale was a name synonymous with excellence in the coffee world, and the weight of their involvement was palpable.
For a few seconds, the shock hung in the air as the audience processed the magnitude of this revelation.
Then, slowly, the excitement began to build. A few claps echoed through the hall, quickly growing into a thunderous applause.
Cheers and whoops of joy followed and the energy in the room surged as the realization fully sank in.
This was not just any sponsorship; this was a game-changer.
Mr. Hayes waited for the enthusiasm to reduce before he raised his hand, signaling for silence once more.
"But that’s not all... that’s not all," he repeated, his eyes twinkling with the promise of more surprises.
The room quieted, hanging on his every word.
"This year, the winning team will receive a mind-blowing award. Barista Royale has generously offered a grand prize of $100,000,000, a year-long supply of their premium coffee, and an exclusive trip to their coffee plantations in Colombia for a behind-the-scenes experience!" he finished in one breath, knowing that it will be difficult to quell the crowd once the import of the announcement hits them.
"On this note, I officially Welcome everyone to the Golden Bean Championship!"
The crowd’s reaction was instantaneous, almost making his last statement inaudible as cheers erupted from all quarters, louder and more fervent than before.
Some leapt to their feet, clapping and shouting in sheer excitement while others exchanged wide-eyed glances.
The thought of not only a substantial cash prize but also the chance to immerse themselves in the heart of Barista Royale’s coffee operations was beyond their wildest dreams.
Mr Hayes smiled broadly, soaking in the electric atmosphere.
"We look forward to an incredible competition. May the best baristas win!"
With that, he stepped back, letting the waves of enthusiasm wash over the entire hall.
The announcement had transformed the competition from a prestigious event to an unforgettable experience, and everyone present knew they just had to do their best to win.
In their corner, Lauren turned to her team, her eyes shining like two forget-me-not as they huddled together.
Her teammates, Horatio, Jamie, Alex, and Mia, were still wide-eyed from the news.
"Did you hear that?" Horacio exclaimed, his voice barely above a whisper, yet tinged with excitement. "Barista Royale! And a hundred million dollars! This changes everything." 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
Jamie nodded, a confident smile playing on his lips. "It does, but we’ve been preparing for this. We knew this competition was going to be tough, and now it’s even more important that we bring our A-game."
Alex, always the strategist, leaned in, his brow furrowed in thought. "The trip to Colombia... Can you imagine the insights we could gain from that? Learning from the best in the business, seeing their process firsthand... It’s invaluable."
Mia, the youngest and most passionate about coffee, could hardly contain her excitement. "And a year’s supply of their coffee! We’d have access to the best beans in the world for our experiments and new blends. This is incredible!"
Lauren held up her hand, her expression turning serious. "It is incredible, but we need to stay focused. We have the skills, and we’ve worked hard to get here. Now it’s execution time. Also, we need to step up our game and think strategically about every step of this competition."
Horatio nodded vigorously. "Right. We need to pay attention to our competitors. This prize is going to make everyone fight harder than ever."
He was saying this based on the person he had seen in the hall, but he didn’t want to mention it to his teammates yet until the person makes a move.
