The Forbidden Heiress At The All Male Alpha Academy-Chapter 112: His Saviour, The Female Wolf.
The door was locked, so Theo ripped the latch with one hand, and they both walked in. The inside was a small backstage area filled with props. It was dimly lit and quiet, completely hidden from the outside.
Finally safe.
She helped Zeke into one of the chairs in the room and turned back to get something to wipe his lips when he grabbed her hand.
"Don’t go," He breathed hard, his voice hoarse.
"I need to...,"
"Don’t go," He repeated.
"Alright," She said and sat down next to him.
Her hands trembled as they clasped over his. His eyes were red from pain, and his body was getting colder by the second. Without a second thought, she took off her sweatshirt and threw it over his head, leaving her with the white shirt she had under it.
She was so scared of what was happening to him, "Zeke," She called, her lips quivering, "What’s wrong with you? What’s going on?"
"I need to sleep," He breathed raggedly again.
"Sleep?" She was confused, "I don’t understand. You just...you just vomited outside. I’m scared, Zeke. What’s happening to you?"
He smiled through the pain, "Don’t be scared, Hellcat. I’ll be fine again once I’ve gotten enough sleep,"
"But why is this happening to you?" She asked.
He started to cough so hard he almost fell over. She wrapped her arms around his back and pulled him into her embrace, not having the slightest idea what else to do.
She was panicking.
"Zeke, please...," She rubbed his back, "Zeke...,"
Finally, he stopped coughing. His breathing was still uneven and high, and she was trying to warm him up with her body. His chin rested completely on her shoulders, and his eyes were barely open.
He has lost every atom of strength in him.
"My body kept rejecting it all," He said softly.
"What?" She paused.
"The Experiments, everything," He explained, "I didn’t want to become his perfect little Alpha that he could also control. I would rather be tortured for the rest of my life than let him have his way with me...so I rejected everything. They flushed chemicals inside of me that tried to change me, and I fought back against it all. This was what it all led to,"
There was a bitter taste in her mouth. She did not like where this was going.
"Whenever I don’t get enough sleep, my body begins to burst from the inside. The rejection is killing me slowly, and even if I do sleep, I’d... still eventually die one day,"
She shook her head fervently, "You’re gonna die, Zeke. Whatever is happening to you, you can’t let it take over you,"
He smiled weakly through the pain, "It was my choice. Cain has already killed everyone that mattered to me, and the only way to escape from him was death. I knew what kind of danger I was putting myself in when I kept rejecting it all. I just wanted to be free from him, from everything," he laughed humorlessly, and Theo held him even tighter as a tear slipped from her eye. "If I had known that...I still had a future, that I would have met you, maybe...I wouldn’t have done this to myself,"
"You didn’t do anything to yourself!" She cried, "It was Cain. It was all him!"
"Only one thing can save me, I was told,"
Hope flared through her heart, "Tell me!"
"My mate," He said softly, his voice getting weaker, "The wearer of the Pendant. The Female Wolf. Only she can save me... somehow,"
It made total sense now. So this was the reason why he had begun acting differently when he had seen the pendant around her neck. Why he had burst with rage, and asked if she had taken the pendant from a female relative.
She was that female. But how was she supposed to save him from this? She had no idea what to do.
She felt him relax completely against her.
"Zeke?" She called softly.
No answer.
"Zeke!" She instantly panicked.
"I’m falling asleep," He said groggily.
She released a huge breath, not just because he was still alive but because she was also transforming into her female form. Seraphina had held out much longer tonight.
Minutes passed, and she kept rubbing his back till she was sure he had fallen deeply into slumber. His uneven breaths had become even, and his body warmth was slowly getting back to normal again.
*Seraphina* She called, *We need to talk*
*Yes, we do* She said, *We can’t let out mate die*
*Is there a way to save him? He said we are supposed to know*
*There might be a way, but you have to give me some time to think about it,* she replied.
*Alright,* Theo said, and sighed.
All her life, Theo thought she knew what suffering felt like.
She thought her own world-ending moments were enough to break a person.
She had spent nights curled into herself, crying so hard her ribs hurt, sobbing into a pillow no one ever came to pull away from her face. She had lived through the kind of pain that made her believe she’d tasted the worst life had to offer.
But she had been wrong.
What Zeke carried, the things she saw in him that night made her chest squeeze in a way she didn’t have a name for.
It wasn’t regular fear not sadness. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
It was something much colder, something that hollowed her out from the inside.
Because Zeke hadn’t just been hurt.
He had lived through something that should have broken anyone else. Something that still made her shiver when she remembered even fragments of it. And he had been forced through it again and again and again, dragged back into the same nightmare with no mercy, no pause and no escape.
And when he had finally got out, the torment didn’t let him go. It followed him into his sleep.
It pulled him back into the lab every time he closed his eyes. It made him sleepwalk, curse under his breath, and fight invisible hands that still held him even though the real ones were gone.
And on the nights he refused to sleep at all, his body would collapse like this, and he would feel himself deteriorating, knowing death was slowly closing him on him.
His body had still been changed. He wasn’t a perfect Alpha, but a dying wolf.
*Please, Seraphina. You need to think of something* Theo wasn’t begging, she was praying. And she was praying with all her heart.
*He’s ours, Theo* Seraphina growled, a rumble of pure certainty, *And I would tear the Moon out of the sky before I let him die,* she declared.
