The First Immortal of Destiny-Chapter 677: Resentment and Regret_1
Demon-Suppressing Tower, seventh chamber.
The ancient chains that originally bound the Evil Monarch Lin Zhaozai now firmly held the Water Ghost Evil Spirit, half-submerged by water originating from the Sword Washing Pool.
SPLASH!
The pool water rippled. Shen Mo, emanating the light of his Skill, Crystal Brahma Flame, and his Blessing Palm, walked through the water from the sixth chamber to arrive before the Water Ghost Evil Spirit.
The existence or power that crafted the Demon-Suppressing Tower is truly world-shaking!
These sorts of Evil Spirits can't be dealt with by ordinary means, yet the Demon-Suppressing Tower can imprison and suppress them... Feeling the mysterious power permeating the tower, Shen Mo couldn't help but exclaim.
Even though he had successfully repaired the Demon-Suppressing Tower, he still couldn't fully comprehend the secrets of this pagoda.
The primary materials used to construct the tower body and ancient chains were quite peculiar. In addition to being fused with various extraordinary materials, an invisible force seemed to be imbued within them. This force allowed the tower to suppress profound metaphysical entities, thereby trapping enlightened Heavenly Monarchs and strange Evil Spirits!
Shen Mo could never fathom what this invisible force was. Initially, he could only use reserves of spirit gold ore to maintain its basic shape. Thereafter, he used the original materials of the tower body to gradually repair the broken sections and meticulously re-engrave the ruined Dao runes, following the original pattern exactly, trying to restore its original appearance!
During the repair process, he gained a better understanding of the Demon-Suppressing Tower's construction, operating mechanisms, internal runes, and more. However, he couldn't recreate the primary materials of the chains and the tower body. This remained true even when Tai 26 utilized its innate abilities to perfectly refine materials with an absolutely identical composition!
Under the scrutiny of the [Method Eye Candle Wisp], the properties of the two were vastly different, not at all resembling something refined from the same source. In the end, Shen Mo concluded that the main body of the Demon-Suppressing Tower and the chains held additional mysteries, difficult to replicate by ordinary means.
Fortunately, when Lin Zhaozai shattered the Demon-Suppressing Tower, it only broke into three sections, and the ancient chains remained undamaged. Otherwise, if the tower body had been too extensively damaged, merely replacing the missing primary materials would have been an overwhelming task for Shen Mo, making successful repair impossible.
The Water Ghost Evil Spirit, locked by the chains, retained its previous form. After being suppressed, it could no longer influence the Outer Realm or continue "causing harm."
Shen Mo had already informed Situ Huo and the others, instructing them to try gradually returning to their normal states to see if they would still be affected by the demonic power.
To my knowledge, Evil Spirits were present in the Red Flame Zone even before the upheaval of heaven and earth!
With the invasion of the Heavenly Demon, and the arrival of Outer Zone creatures and Forbidden Lands in the Primordial Realm, the number of Evil Spirits in this world increased dramatically...
In essence, what exactly are these Evil Spirits?
Shen Mo stared intently, continuously observing the Water Ghost Evil Spirit before him with the [Method Eye Candle Wisp], and scanned it up and down with his five senses.
But what he saw, heard, perceived, and felt was no different from before. It was without sensation or awareness, not a creature of this world. Instead, it resembled an alien program operating within this world, one that only wreaked havoc and plagued mankind according to specific rules!
Just as Shen Mo was about to turn around and leave, his vision briefly blurred as if his soul had detached and entered a strange world.
In this state, he seemed to have transformed into the lofty "The Heavens" above. He was unable to feel his Dao Body, the True Yuan within, his soul power, Magical Powers, the seven emotions and six desires, or any other attributes a cultivator should possess. He possessed only an imperturbable Path Heart and an omniscient perspective, coldly observing everything happening below.
This was a world brimming with vibrant life. It had vast lands, boundless oceans, and high skies, approximately the size of thirty Immortal Burial Seas. Abundant Spiritual Qi, exotic flora and fauna, cultivators, and extraordinary creatures flourished there. Billions of sentient beings proliferated and grew stronger in that place.
Until one day, this world, much like the Primordial Realm, experienced a drastic upheaval. Numerous Forbidden Lands and creatures from the Outer Zone descended upon it, plunging it into great turmoil.
For the high and mighty "The Heavens," this turbulence seemed to have little effect.
After an unknown number of tens of thousands of years, this world seemed to reach its "end of life." Catastrophes began to emerge between heaven and earth, extending for billions of miles underground and beyond the Ninth Heaven:
The land submerged.
The seas churned.
The Nine Heavens shattered.
Heavenly rivers descended...
Among various phenomena like collapsing mountains, spewing magma, falling fire rain, and vast expanses of land freezing solid, the descent of heavenly rivers and the subsequent oceanic deluge were the most devastating.
The overwhelming floods consumed everything: mountains and plains, rivers and forests, cultivators and extraordinary creatures, flying birds and running beasts, fish, shrimp, insects, and mollusks—all were swept into the churning tides!
During this period, the numerous Forbidden Lands, Outer Zone creatures, and other entities that had originally descended into this world fled one after another. Only the native creatures remained, along with everything else in the world, reduced to insignificant specks of dust and debris in the flood, sinking into an endless abyss.
The entire world—not only the sentient beings inhabiting it, but every flower, every blade of grass, every grain of sand, and every stone—wailed in despair!
Even the lofty "The Heavens" was inevitably affected, engulfed by decay and a despair that heralded extinction...
After Shen Mo broke free from the perspective of "The Heavens," he remained stunned in the seventh chamber of the tower for more than ten days before finally regaining his senses. His expression was complicated as he gazed at the Water Ghost Evil Spirit, his heart filled with a myriad of emotions, unsure how to react!
He exited the Demon-Suppressing Tower, withdrew the pagoda into his Sword Zone, and then, with a solemn expression, stepped out of the cave housing the Sword Washing Pool.
Situ Huo and the other four patriarchs of the Heaven Sword Sect no longer appeared as "mummies." Instead, they looked vigorous, their forms exuding the refined aura of Golden Core Realm practitioners.
Leading a contingent of Heaven Sword Sect disciples, they were waiting outside the cave housing the Sword Washing Pool. They had evidently been waiting for more than ten days. Upon seeing Shen Mo emerge, they hurried forward to express their gratitude, presenting him with lavish gifts composed of numerous spiritual items. They also eagerly invited Shen Mo to extend his stay at the Heaven Sword Sect for a period, intending to host a banquet in his honor as a token of their appreciation.
Shen Mo accepted the gifts but politely declined Situ Huo and the others' enthusiastic invitation to stay. He summoned the Evil-eating Centipede and, stepping onto its head, flew away from the Heaven Sword Sect's main gate.
Since his cultivation journey began, he had encountered quite a few Evil Spirits. These included those at the Suspended Fairy Mountain, the Heaven Patrolling Boat House, the blood sea in the distant Immortal Burial Sea, the unknown existence in the middle region of Dragon Fall Abyss, and the Longevity Flesh Evil Spirit in the ruins of the Jade Flower Sect, among others.
He had always hypothesized about the origin of Evil Spirits.
Now, triggered by the Water Ghost Evil Spirit, he had entered a peculiar state akin to "substituting his own heart for Heaven's Will." This experience brought about endless epiphanies, granting him a deeper understanding of the nature of Evil Spirits and even the path to becoming a Heavenly Monarch.
Evil Spirits were neither living beings nor creatures; they were utterly bizarre and defied conventional understanding.
However, it is quite possible that these entities known as Evil Spirits are the lingering resentment and echoes of a decaying and collapsing world!
