The Female General Dominates All After Transmigration-Chapter 236 - 233: Surgery II
Ling Chengyan stood up, and Wang Liansheng quickly stepped forward to quietly explain the encounter with Mr. Lian and his inquiry.
Ling Chengyan turned to whisper to her brother, "A senior overseas Chinese handled by Liansheng."
Ling Zhankui was surprised but still stepped forward to express gratitude, "Thank you, Mr. Lian, for your concern."
"I’m... since I returned to the country, I’ve been greatly cared for by Section Chief Wang. It’s only proper that I come to visit given his elder’s illness." Lian Zhaowen asked about the surgery with concern and then handed over a box given by his secretary, "I didn’t prepare much in a hurry, please don’t mind."
Ling Zhankui glanced at the brocade box and knew it wasn’t a cheap item, so he refused politely: "Mr. Ling’s kindness is understood by us brothers, but we dare not accept the gift, thank you."
Lian Zhaowen sighed and tried to force the box into Wang Liansheng’s hands: "Your father-in-law’s age makes recovery from major surgery difficult. This isn’t a valuable item, just a ginseng, not worth much, but you could use it..."
Ling Chengyan was about to speak when Wang Liansheng stepped back to dodge the box, bowing slightly: "Thank you, Mr. Lian, for your reminder. We’ve already prepared supplements for the elder and will be dedicated to his recuperation. I believe my father-in-law’s health will improve... After all, our family has been separated for many years, and it’s rare to reunite; the elder also wants to see the grandchildren grow up."
With that sentence, Wang Liansheng seemed to extend Ling Father’s life by another ten or twenty years; it was truly confident.
It was known that Ling Father was previously near death.
Ling Father’s sons still awaited him in the operating room, making it reasonable to say they were unsure if he would live or die. Yet, hearing Wang Liansheng speak so confidently made the Ling brothers happy. Even the emotionless Ling Chengyan found the words pleasant and was satisfied with Wang Liansheng’s decisive rejection of Mr. Lian’s gift, showing a slight smile on her face.
Lian Zhaowen’s face stiffened, he slowly took back the box, and his secretary promptly stepped forward to take it.
Lian Zhaowen said, "Today’s visit is abrupt and somewhat hasty. I’ll come visit again after the surgery is completed."
These words also suggested confidence in the successful operation of Ling Father; regarding visiting again, the Ling siblings and Wang Liansheng didn’t take it to heart, merely considering it a polite gesture.
They courteously saw off Mr. Ling, and the Ling siblings returned after sending him to the stairs, while Wang Liansheng saw him down to the lobby.
With this small episode, the waiting time seemed to pass a bit faster. Looking back at the time, it had already been two and a half hours.
The three siblings sat down again to wait, and the operating room door suddenly opened. Out came a figure tightly wrapped, yet discernible as a young woman.
Ling Chengyan almost jumped to greet her, startling the woman into stepping back subconsciously, then lifted her head to see Ling Chengyan rushing towards her.
"Doctor, is there... any problem with the surgery inside?" Ling Chengyan stepped back half a step and slowed down her voice to ask.
The young nurse seemed pleased to be called ’doctor,’ relaxed her stance, and asked, "Whose family member are you?"
The Ling brothers also stepped forward, realizing there were more patients in the operating room.
Ling Chengyan said, "Ling Zhankui, the lung surgery."
The nurse responded with an "Oh" and said, "The surgery went smoothly."
Seeing the Ling siblings still focused on her, she added, "Rest assured, Professor Qi personally performed the surgery. There will be no issues."
Ling Chengyan thanked her and let her leave.
They realized that she might not be part of the main team or involved in Ling Father’s surgery, so she didn’t know the details and couldn’t provide answers.
However, as the three siblings looked back, apart from them, there were no other patient relatives present, leading to some confusion. Do all patients undergoing surgery have no family accompanying them?
After waiting another hour, the operating room door opened again; this time, a young doctor emerged. Ling Chengyan had seen this Dr. Wu next to Professor Qi, and the Ling brothers recognized him from ward rounds, quickly greeting him.
Dr. Wu took off his mask, showing weariness but good spirits, and his eyes revealed a smile: "Rest assured, the operation went smoothly. They’re finishing up inside now, and he’ll come out soon."
He handed over a bag he was holding, "Send this to the pathology lab for your relative."
Ling Chengyan had consulted the general surgical procedure and felt tense hearing about the pathology, quickly asking, "Is it, a bad illness?"
Dr. Wu shook his head with a laugh, "We can’t confirm that now, but visually, the situation seems benign and doesn’t look malignant."
After giving instructions, Dr. Wu retreated back into the operating room.
Wang Liansheng took the bag to the pathology lab, and the Ling siblings waited for another half hour. As Wang Liansheng returned, the operating room doors opened, and Ling Father came out.
He was still unconscious upon coming out, but the doctors assured the operation’s success, leaving the pathology report to determine things. As long as the pathology tests are fine, further nourishment and recovery will follow.
After surgery, the tasks of care became heavier.
Soon after returning to the ward, Ling Father gradually woke up. The return of pain and the medication’s residual agitation made him uncomfortable.
Ling Chengyan sat by the bedside, massaging acupressure points to alleviate the elder’s pain. The elder’s pain reduced and, under the remnants of the drugs’ effects, soon fell asleep again.
Wang Liansheng suggested: "Alright, let brother and second brother go eat and rest first, and come back tonight to take shifts; the elder can’t be left alone. We must manage rests properly to care effectively for the elder."
The Ling brothers hadn’t slept well the night before due to worry. Seeing the elder safely out now made them indeed feel tired.
Ling Er still wanted to stay and let his sister rest but was pushed out of the ward by Ling Chengyan.
Soon, Ling Er returned with two portions of food and a pack of cotton swabs.
Ling Father’s post-surgery condition seemed fine, waking fully the next day. Ling Chengyan helped ease his post-surgical pain with pressure points.
On the second morning, with the doctor’s permission, he drank a small bowl of porridge and an egg custard.
The following day, he could eat some nutritious food. Wang Liansheng bought a chicken to stew in his rental place, adding cordyceps and ginseng, making a concentrated broth served in a bowl, and the stewed chicken with some dried chili for the Ling siblings keeping watch.
For consecutive days, Ling Father received chicken soup and bone broth, simmered to be fresh, sweet, rich, yet refreshing and not greasy; the Ling brothers also felt satisfied eating it.
Ling Er jokingly said, "With Dad in the hospital, us brothers might gain a few pounds enjoying the food."
