The Female General Dominates All After Transmigration-Chapter 222 - 220: Medical Visit and Homecoming
Early the next morning, Wang Liansheng got up and went out to buy breakfast. After returning, he ate a little to fill his stomach in Ling Chengyan and their room, but Ling’s father couldn’t eat because of the examination, not even a sip of water.
Ling Chengyan drove, taking Ling’s father, the eldest brother, and Wang Liansheng to the hospital, while the second brother stayed at the guesthouse to watch the two children.
They had contacted in advance, and upon reaching the hospital, they went directly to see the old professor.
After looking at Ling’s father’s condition, the old professor smiled, "It’s slightly better than I imagined. Given your situation, there’s a good chance of recovery. I’ll write you a few prescriptions for some tests; let’s check the specifics, then we can decide whether to arrange for hospitalization and surgery or go back to recuperate for a while and then return."
Wang Liansheng and the Ling family members were naturally happy, expressing their thanks continuously as they took the examination slips given by the professor and did several tests. Close to noon, when all the test reports were ready, the group returned to see the old professor.
After reviewing the examination slips, the old professor smiled and said, "The situation is good, nothing adverse, the only concern is that the old brother’s body is a bit weak."
He looked up at Ling Chengyan, "A few days ago, I gave you a prescription, take it for a week, stop for three days, then take it for another week. After completing two courses, bring him back to be hospitalized. I’ve reserved a bed and surgery date for you in advance, so you can come directly."
Ling Chengyan and Wang Liansheng expressed their thanks profusely and left.
After leaving the hospital, Ling Chengyan drove Ling’s father and the eldest brother back to the guesthouse first, while Wang Liansheng went to buy hot porridge and steamed egg custard. He brought them back for Ling’s father to eat and also reheated the medicine from the morning for him to take.
After a short rest, the group left the guesthouse, not going to a restaurant for a meal. Instead, Wang Liansheng got out of the car to buy some food, which they ate in the car, driving directly back to Huicheng.
The second uncle and aunt had already returned, and Ling Chengyan called Xu Dong, asking him to tell the second uncle, Wang Lianfa, to help rent a small courtyard near the compound.
Wang Lianfa had been in Huicheng for nearly two years and was no longer unfamiliar with the place. After hawking in the streets and alleys for almost a year, he was as familiar with Huicheng as he was with his own brigade.
As a result, when Ling Chengyan drove Ling’s father to Huicheng, Wang Lianfa had already rented a small two-room courtyard. Xu Dong brought a group of over ten people to help clean it, even lighting the stove, making the room warm without a trace of dust.
Ling Chengyan was very pleased with the small courtyard, located less than a hundred meters diagonally from the compound. It was fully equipped with water and electricity, and the stove was lit, making it feel like home as soon as they entered.
Ling’s father and the two elder brothers were also very satisfied upon entering.
While laying out the bedding brought over, Ling Chengyan told Ling’s father, "It’s inconvenient to get in and out over there, and with several kids making noise, you can’t really recuperate well. Staying here is convenient and quiet, and we’ve installed a TV in the outer room. We’ve also prepared a radio for you here... Is there anything else you want? Just tell me, and I’ll get it for you."
After encouraging Ling’s father to rest in bed, Ling Chengyan came out to talk to the two brothers, "If you need anything, just say. It’s much easier to buy things these days, and you can find whatever food or supplies you need. Don’t be strangers with me."
The eldest brother said, "This trip has already cost you quite a bit..."
Before he could finish, Ling Chengyan interrupted with a smile, "Don’t save money for your little sister. I’ve been working for not too long, but previously, I saved quite a bit from the high subsidies at the Automobile Company."
Seeing her looking like she ’didn’t lack money,’ the two Ling brothers glanced at each other and laughed together.
When they first met again, they felt their sister seemed to have changed, becoming cold and distant, even somewhat unfamiliar. But after spending time together and gradually breaking the ice, they realized she was still their sister. Perhaps it was getting reacquainted or laying down old grievances, but didn’t she just become lively again?!
Just like she was before getting married.
For dinner, Ling Chengyan had the children eat at the small courtyard, with Wang Liansheng cooking, and the second brother surprisingly helped quite a bit in the kitchen, showing his familiar and skilled hands, implying he must have been hands-on many times at home.
Curious, Ling Chengyan asked her eldest brother, just to learn that the second brother wanted to be a chef since young. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, he ended up farming in the brigade or on a farm, becoming a bona fide farmer.
"However, his cooking skills are outstanding, well-known on the farm. When there’s an event, they always invite him to help, pretty much making him a half-chef." The eldest brother laughed.
With thoughts swirling, Ling Chengyan smiled and said, "Now that the policy is more open, many people are opening their own restaurants and shops. If the second brother wants to do this, why not just open a restaurant!"
The eldest brother furrowed his brow, saying, "Let’s talk about this later, depending on father’s illness."
Ling Chengyan shifted the topic, inquiring about the two sisters-in-law and nephews still in Jiang Province.
"Your two sisters-in-law are both from the Northwest, one from Gansu, the other from Ning Province; both are hardworking and capable women." The eldest brother spoke of the two in-laws first, then continued, "Three nephews, two are mine, the second brother has one. They’re all like whirlwinds; we’re both afraid of having more boys, so we didn’t have more..."
Ling Chengyan asked about the policies over there, and upon hearing they were not too strict yet, she said, "If you want more, do it sooner rather than later, before you come back and can’t do it even if you want to."
The eldest brother smiled at her, not agreeing or refusing, and said, "What you said yesterday makes sense. The kids’ education is most important. Jiang Province is still a bit remote, not quite as good as Eastern Province."
The siblings chatted idly, and soon, Wang Liansheng and the second brother brought in the meal.
They cooked millet porridge with noodles inside for Ling’s father, making the noodles soft and infused with the aroma of the millet porridge. Ling’s father liked it very much, saying it was the postpartum meal from Eastern Province.
After dinner, allowing Ling’s father to rest, the siblings stayed by the stove to chat, monitoring the medicine they were brewing.
Once the medicine was ready, Ling Chengyan brought it in for Ling’s father to drink, then bid farewell, taking the children home with Wang Liansheng.
Whether it was the atmosphere of being back home or the effect of the medicine, Ling’s father, who was once critically ill to the point that the children were secretly preparing for the worst, not only didn’t get more exhausted, but seemed more vigorous day by day, with even his appetite increasing gradually.
Wang Liansheng went back to work the next morning.
Upon returning, Wang Liansheng learned that Mr. Lian had left on the second day after the New Year.
However, Mr. Lian left word that the elementary and middle school construction funded by his donations was set to start construction in early March, either being renovated or newly built, and by then, Mr. Lian would surely come over to participate.
