The Female General Dominates All After Transmigration-Chapter 170 - 169: Request and Good News
The night sky is clear tonight, a half-moon hanging above the deep blue expanse, casting a gentle light over the vast grassland.
Ling Chengyan opened the door, and was greeted by the sight of a wolf, a large, sturdy wolf.
This was the lead wolf from last night.
Ling Chengyan tightened her grip on the weapon in her hand. The lead wolf also noticed the weapon, and became noticeably more wary, its body slightly tensed, ready to either retreat or attack at any moment.
Ling Chengyan placed her weapon by the door, spread her empty hands as a sign, and slowly walked towards the lead wolf at the courtyard entrance.
The lead wolf remained almost motionless, and Ling Chengyan also made little noise, unnoticed by others, except for the restless horses in the stable that were stamping the ground and snorting softly.
As Ling Chengyan walked closer, the lead wolf shook its head and turned away to leave.
Ling Chengyan hesitated but followed.
She didn’t have to walk far before reaching the edge of the woods outside the station, where two wolves stood, slightly smaller in size yet with smooth and fluffy fur, indicating their high status within the pack.
Ling Chengyan noticed that one of the wolves was carrying a gray fluff ball in its mouth—an all too familiar sight.
Indeed, the lead wolf approached, whimpering softly, and after a brief hesitation, the other wolf brought the fluff ball to Ling Chengyan.
Ling Chengyan was surprised; could it be that they were giving her the wolf pup?
The thought flashed briefly through her mind before she dismissed it. This wolf pup was clearly important to the pack, otherwise, they wouldn’t have risked everything last night in the storm to retrieve it.
So, they had finally retrieved the pup, and now brought it back—Ling Chengyan realized the significance of the stormy night!
Such a fierce storm could cause even a sturdy man like Zhang Wanxiang to catch a cold; a newborn wolf pup would be even more susceptible.
Ling Chengyan crouched down, reaching out to touch the pup’s nose. Sure enough, it felt dry, and the temperature was notably high.
While she hadn’t raised wolves before, she had raised dogs for two lifetimes, especially in the Ling Mansion of Great Qi Country, which boasted a special kennel for the finest hunting dogs. As a playful child, Ling Chengyan had learned a lot from the kennel hands by amusing the puppies.
Still, treating such a young wolf pup was beyond her experience.
Not considering herself a vet, Ling Chengyan was about to stand up when she felt the little creature beneath her hand move slightly. Then, without opening its eyes, the fluff ball extended its little tongue to lick her palm.
She was reminded of the previous night when she held it in her hand and it struggled to crawl towards her.
Even General Ling had moments of soft-heartedness for a wolf pup.
Ling Chengyan sighed softly, lifted the pup with both hands, directed the Wolf King to wait there, and took the pup into her room.
The only thing she could think of was giving the pup some of the cold medicine intended for Zhang Wanxiang. After all, a cold is similar in humans and animals... right?
Having been a mother for several years, Ling Chengyan knew to reduce the dosage for children; the pup was even smaller. She split a quarter of a pill into two smaller ones and stared at the little fluff ball in a daze.
How would she feed it?
Thinking it over, she acted decisively, prying open its small mouth and inserting the tiny pill, then giving it a little water to drink.
Whether due to weakness or obedience, the pup barely struggled with the medicine and even drank some water with its small tongue.
Ling Chengyan wrapped it in a towel and placed it at the end of her bed. The little creature whimpered a couple of times and then nestled inside and fell asleep.
Ling Chengyan did not go out but lay down and slept as well.
Near dawn, she was awakened by noises outside. She looked at the foot of the bed; the fluff ball had emerged from the towel, wobbly and seemingly hungry.
Ling Chengyan touched its little nose, feeling it slightly damp, with the temperature reducing as well.
The medicine seemed effective.
Ling Chengyan fed it another quarter of the pill, then lifted the whining fluff ball and walked outside.
Sure enough, the waiting wolves were getting impatient, or perhaps they were fearful of human dangers with dawn approaching and wanted to leave.
Ling Chengyan placed the fluff ball on the grass five or six steps away from the Wolf King and then retreated slowly.
The Wolf King remained still, while one of the wolves behind him eagerly approached, sniffed the cub, then licked it, took it into its mouth, and returned.
The two wolves departed first, and after they entered the forest, the Wolf King followed. After a few steps, the Wolf King looked back and let out a low howl towards Ling Chengyan.
Ling Chengyan raised her hand: "Go on, stop howling; if humans misunderstand, none of you will get away."
Sure enough, Captain Liu’s door burst open with a bang; he rushed out, weapon in hand. Other doors opened too, and each person was holding a weapon.
"Wolf howl? Where? They dare come looking for trouble at dawn? Do they think we’re afraid of them?" someone questioned loudly.
Captain Liu cast a sharp glance back: "These thoughtless guys, not seeing who’s there. Against a whole wolf pack with bare hands by themselves, yet they’re armed and shouting? No shame!"
Ling Chengyan wasted no time, preparing to set off.
Fatso efficiently steamed lamb buns for Ling Chengyan and Zhang Wanxiang to eat, and packed ten meat buns for their journey, along with a small bag of dried mushrooms.
"Picked them myself; nothing special but cleaned well for home cooking."
Ling Chengyan accepted without hesitation, thanking him: "Thanks, Fat Brother; I love grassland mushrooms—they’re thick and flavorful."
Fatso’s face bloomed with delight: "Enjoy them! I’ll gather more after the rain and send them over."
Ling Chengyan agreed readily, leaving spare cold medicine with Fatso before departing.
Upon completing their mission and returning by the station route, they found the wolf-bitten horse had healed remarkably well. More astonishing was the wolf pack delivering a wild sheep after Ling Chengyan’s departure that night.
Fatso’s cheeks jiggled with laughter: "We made a leg out of the sheep and salted the rest to be air-dried. Take it back. It’s no ordinary mutton..."
Ling Chengyan didn’t hesitate, taking most of the wild sheep and more supplies gathered by Fatso from local herders, paying around thirty bucks at market value.
Upon returning to Huicheng, an unexpected joy awaited: Cousin Wang Lianqi’s construction team landed their first major project.
