Chapter 200: No Reason To Fear.

Ethan continued,"This all started when you found out you might not be Liam Anderson’s real daughter. Which will actually be reasonable if you used to depend on him for anything. You make your own money, your influence in public isn’t because you are his daughter, and you can totally live without any sort of help from him then why are you losing confidence in yourself? The only thing you got using his influence, is me...and I am just as useless as he is in your life...so you can’t be scared of losing me since you don’t love me."

He paused, caressing her cheeks gently and then continued,"Of course, I won’t let you go just because of a stupid contract I am not gaining anything from but then...don’t make me misunderstand the situation anymore. You act like you are scared to lose me, like you are scared the other girl with your face will take your place beside me—"

"Me? When did I act like that? I...I was just a little bit shocked," Shikera interrupted him, blinking repeatedly to avoid his scrutinizing gaze. "And who told you that you are useless to me. You think I can live without you two? Who would cook for me...or what if I fall sick?"

"You won’t, you can take care of yourself perfectly well," Ethan whispered, lowering his head to kiss her gently.

Back To Present.

Now that she thought about it, Shikera remembered him saying he would gain nothing from the contract. Did that mean he was not aware of the shares his father would get if he abided by the contract terms?

She washed her hand and stepped out of the restroom. Cyprian was standing there and waiting for her.

"I thought you decided to live in there," Cyprian joked, linking her arm with Shikera’s as soon as she could.

Shikera simply smiled in return without saying anything. The two walked out to join Raymond and Ethan, before saying their goodbyes with a promise to call each other.

"I love you, Rian," Shikera suddenly said, just as Cyprian turned to leave. Raymond’s eyes widened slightly while Ethan looked like he was not surprised. The only reaction his body gave was his hand which gripped Shikera’s tightly.

"What’s this? Are you planning to make your man assassinate me in the middle of the night?" Cyprian asked, equally shocked as Raymond.

"Jeez! You actually heard that from me in this lifetime and you react like this? I thought you would record it instead."

Feigning annoyance, she turned to Ethan and said, "Let’s just go. She’s not worth my love."

Shikera was fuming, her heart bursting from anger and discontentment.

’How can he just conclude that by himself? Even though I told him I don’t love him, was he not supposed to know I’m lying?! How...just how did he expect me to...to allow him have his way with me if I did not love him? Am I that cheap in his eyes?!’

Though it was just six am in the morning, Shikera was oblivious to that as she paced her room in annoyance. She suddenly woke up in the midnight and the incidents from the previous day poured into her mind. While poring over it, she didn’t know where the sudden anger that overcame her came from.

"Wait...why waste my time in this room when I can just ask him?" she asked herself.

"Yes, I should just go to his room and ask him," she decided.

Walking out of her room, she was about to turn in the direction of his room when a voice called out to her from the ground floor.

"Are you awake, mummy? Daddy says to come down for breakfast!" Esther informed, yelling at the top of her voice.

Shikera felt her anger soften as she replied,"Coming!"

She got to the living room in a minute to see Esther lying on the sofa while Ethan was in the kitchen, his back facing her. There, she still had her chance to ask him.

With that thought in mind, she stepped into the kitchen and cleared her throat.

"Hmm...why did you believe me immediately when I said I do not love you?"

Ethan turned, surprise evident in his eyes at her question.

"Good morning, Mrs," he greeted.

"Good morning, Mister. Answer my question," Shikera repeated.

"Why did I believe you? Didn’t you want me to? Or wait, do you love me then?"

"Of course no! I was just asking the question...just a simple question," Shikera replied. Why did he keep asking this question that made her flustered?

Ethan kept silent for a few minutes and Shikera was beginning to think he would not answer, when he suddenly said, "Because I am aware it would be hard to love me. Who loves a crazy person?"

Shikera frowned, "You know what, Ethan? You are a weird man. Why do you keep calling yourself crazy when everyone knows you are not?"

"Correction, everyone knows I’m crazy except you. And as much as I don’t want you to believe it, I still want you to be aware. It will be hard—"

"Mummy? Remember what I was saying yesterday!" Esther’s approaching voice made him stop talking, and Shikera had to meet the little girl halfway.

"Yeah, what were you saying?"

"This is it. My friends and I were arguing about you recently and I won, because I told them my mom was the show anchor of Elovien’s Spotlight. They believed me immediately but you know what? Yesterday was different." The little girl’s expression was so serious while talking that Shikera tried her best to restrain herself from laughing.

"How so?"

"We were arguing again as usual and when I brought you up, they refused to budge. They don’t believe you are my mom!"

"Awww...what do we do about that now?"

"I’m not done yet, mummy. One of my friend’s mother also joined in on our discussion and dared me to bring you to a small lunch meeting of parents of the students in our grade. Can you believe that?!" she asked agitatedly.

Shikera shook her head, "I cannot. How could she not believe you? But Esther...you know I can’t go, right?"
